A short while ago, I requested a recommendation to repair the gilded frame on our large mirror. It…read morelooked uncomplicated, but I hesitated fixing it myself. A few neighbors promptly recommended Trefler's in Newton. I took photos of the damage and stopped in at Trefler's. The person I met said the repair would be around $400 and would take about 10 weeks, which was far more than I expected for such a seemingly small repair. Consequently, to my delight I discovered Burma Design, Antique Furniture Restoration and Conservation at 65 Sprague St. East in Hyde Park. I called Matt Burstein, forwarded a few photos of the damages and had quick, thorough and professional email and phone correspondence with Matt. My wife and I moved the mirror to Matt's bright, spacious workshop and to our delight Matt was able to beautifully repair our mirror in less than a week for a fraction of what Trefler's suggested it would cost. We were so impressed and pleased with Matt's stellar work and our enjoyable and informative interactions with him, that I offered to write this unsolicited testimonial. In our talks, we discovered that with a background rooted in furniture design, custom cabinetry and furniture making, Matt Burstein has over 35 years of experience in museum quality antique furniture repair, conservation and restoration, period finishes and techniques, as well as antique furniture authentication. Passionate about detail and craftsmanship, Matt's diverse range of services include: * structural stabilization and joinery repair, * carving, fabrication & replacement of missing parts & carved elements, * color and finish matching * inlay, marquetry and veneer repair and replacement * finish refurbishing and conservative cleaning * French polishing and brass polishing * custom period finishes Matt at Burma Design, LLC, can be reached at 617.276.3776 and MB@burmadesign.com https://www.burmadesign.com/

I had a family heirloom that was essentially a museum piece mailed up to him from Florida. He was honest in his pricing and assessment and made sure that he explained everything he planned to do in depth so that I understood the process. He also was honest about timing which I greatly appreciated. Perhaps one of the best things besides the fact that the piece now looks immaculate is that he helped me with shipping and delivery of the secretaire to my house. I was pulling my hair out stressing about how I would get that part done, but lo and behold Matt has the perfect guys for the job. Every step of this process was easy and stress free. I wouldn't look anywhere else.

Firstly, Max is awesome. Communicative, pleasant, polite, prompt, professional. We loved working…read morewith him. His team were also very helpful and very nice. Everyone worked hard - from the time they walked in until the time they left. The quote was great and inside the budget we'd allowed and we got a ton more than we expected - broken boards replaced, boards that had been replaced with the wrong wood were removed and redone with the correct, matching wood, a couple of boards that didn't lay completely flat were repaired, and so on. But the finished floors were the star of the show! The floors look new. Not repaired, not improved - NEW. We have a long house, and you can see a huge expanse of wooden flooring from one end to the other, and the effect is now gorgeous. We are entirely happy and we got exactly what we'd hoped for. We recommend Max and Luxe Flooring 100% and would use them without hesitation on any further refinishing projects.

He ended up saving me a significant amount of money compared to other estimates by offering maintanance options since my floors were already in good condition. He took the time to teach me how to keep the floors in good shape with specific cleaning products which was very helpful as a first time homeowner. He and his team finished the project in a day and he even came back the next day to walk through the house with me in case I had any questions or concerns. Ultimately a very pleasant experience! Would recommend.
