This is the perfect B&B if you're visiting the Ledbetter or surrounding areas (Round Top, Burton,…read moreGiddings). I was with two other gal pals and we were attending a holiday bash at our friends' family ranch three miles away; we didn't want to drive all the way back to Houston after drinking, so we booked our one-night stay at Night Bird Ranch. It's off the beaten path from the small town of Ledbetter, but that makes for a quiet and private retreat. We booked the Lonesome Dove and Hidalgo rooms; rooms were clean - recently renovated with plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, and a space heater for those extra chilly nights. We had two rooms with two twin beds - beds were firm. Bedding was comfortable. Soaps and shampoo/conditioner was provided, but it's the kids kind, so if you like your fancy products, pack your own. Kiki and her family live on the 70-acre property; she is a friendly host and we felt welcomed during our stay. Upon arrival, she gave us a tour and even let us assist with feeding the animals the morning we left. She also gave me a cash refund because they had a special discount rate for the night and honored that for me - without me even asking about it. Real hospitality! There's a dance hall/dining hall where Kiki provides wine, coffee, tea and snacks. Our stay included a hot breakfast, and it was fantastic! Fresh biscuits, eggs, sausage gravy, sausage links (and of course, cereal for the kiddies). Onsite there's a lake, acres of exploring, campfire station, and animals: three horses, 2 lambs, and a miniature donkey - and don't forget about Elvis the ranch dog! Love that Kiki and her family are animal lovers. Keep in mind though, outside dogs from guests are not allowed because of the many farm animals. My girlfriends and I fully enjoyed our stay and want to return with a group to have a little ranch life fun. I highly rec this for small groups, retreats, families (kids will love) and even those looking for a space to host an event, like a quaint country wedding or family gathering.

The trip from Austin to Ledbetter was quick, so we called Kiki and got specific directions to our room and even found out about their restaurant, Teague's Tavern in Round Top. After dinner we sat on the porch and listened to the country sounds while Garth sat at our feet. The room was fantastic. Just the right size for us, furnished simply but with care to the details. We left before breakfast, but heated up some of our leftovers from dinner, in the dining hall, to eat on the road. We loved our stay at Night Bird Ranch and plan to come back again, to get away from it all.

After I was asleep, a couple hours later, I received a text message from the front desk attendant. She had use the roach as an excuse to look up my phone number to ask me for a cigarette. No other mention of the roach. I have elderly relatives in Rockdale, will need a Rockdale hotel again in the future. Probably not this one.

Our pipes bursted again so we needed to find a convenient place to stay for a few days. The front desk clerk was very welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend her. Later we saw that the hotel water had turned brown. I thought it was unusual. I asked the clerk , who was different from the one who greeted us, about a room change. She seemed a little confused about my request so I explained that we needed to run an errand and will return. My husband insisted on handling our request because it seemed that the new on duty desk clerk was a little hostile. The clerk explained that the city works on the water system without informing the residents. I understood, however she began to ask us about our experience checking in before check in time, what time did we check in? Did the clerk explain that we could not check in before three o'clock? And we should not have been allowed to check in at 11:00 am. The clerk walked over to the sign on the wall, "Check-In 3:00p.m." That is where I nearly lost it. I am a PhD holder. My husband is also a PhD holder and we own several companies and this woman felt that she had to walk over and point to a sign to show us what 3 PM look like. I walked away as my husband continued a conversation. He's more patient than I am. So back to the question , hire and train welcoming individuals who are good at customer service.

Staying here with a comfortable bed and a clean cottage was refreshing. And on a plus side no kids screaming through halls or feet stomping from upstairs. Just peace and quiet. The folks that operate the place are friendly and hospitable and bend over backwards to make you feel at home. For the record I am not affiliated nor being reimbursed for this review. Just a happy client.

After getting out of the car we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the grounds were. There's no shortage of lush bushes, flowers, and trees. We were immediately greeted by the owners who were friendly and gracious. They take pride in their property and it shows! They even gave us a quick tours of the other guest houses on the property, which no one was in at the time. We stayed in the stone cottage which is a refurbished smoke house, no worries...it doesn't smell like one any longer. The cottage was immaculate! Clean, clean! It had 2 window units, ceiling fans in the bathroom and bedroom. They have thought of everything! Right down to the umbrella hanging by the door to the bug spray and flashlight for nightly strolls on the grounds! I would definitely recommend staying here and plan to do so again!
