An update and resolution to the problem. Steve - Loan Officer quickly provided me the guidance on how to resolve the negative rating on the credit bureau for the $1 charge that was pending on my account. He also, extended assistance by offering me updates on his end or a letter if need be until the situation is resolved. Thank you.. Steve! There still needs to be better oversight on how much gets reported to the credit union. No one intentionally doesn't pay $1 balance. read more

Worst Credit Union ever, I made a payment that got lost because they changed the mailing address and I had to pay a stop payment fee. 2 years later the check is lost again and I pay $35 for a stop payment and I did electronic payment and they charged me interest on the payment they lost. I'm so glad to be done with this credit union read more

When I called, I got the feeling since the loan was closed it's pretty much my problem. Never got a response from my mail. But it's alright. My credit score is going back up as expected. I am in disbelief that this credit union would report a $1 non- payment balance for greater than 30 days. I was caught off guard, I didn't expect a balance after I paid the credit card off. My credit score dropped by 54 points. How inconsiderate of this company not to make any effort and make me aware of this $1 balance before reporting. My elderly relative needed to get recent statements from First City, and she's signed up for eStatements. I came to find out that their app and webpage do not allow retrieval of the statements on iPhone or iPad. The clerk then said it only works on laptop and desktop computers. Perhaps they should warn customers before they push eStatements on them? She was then charged a total of $10, for $5 a month for two recent months statements. First City Credit Union took my money and sent it to the State of California as a dormant account without notifying me. They claim they sent me a letter but all that I have received are bank statements. Then out of the blue, I get a statement saying my account was closed due to inactivity. Now I have to battle with the state of California to get my money back! The staff I spoke with when I called were very rude and unsympathetic. I requested a copy of the letter stating that they intended to close my account, but, of course, they "have to research that." Really? Don't trust these people with your money. They never sent any such letter to me. That's why they cannot find or send me a copy of it. This credit union sucks. read more

I applied for a personal loan. I felt like at a used car dealer. The young girl with glasses who was doing the loan just intentionally misleaded me and I waisted my time because my loan was not approved. She told me that my income would not be considered only after we wasted 2h on paperwork and she ran my credit although l told her the source of income and gave her the proof before we did the paperwork. I felt that her $10 per loan commission was more important to her than telling me strait that I would not qualify which she obviously new. I got the loan in other institutions. Be careful, they will give you the important info only after they ran your credit. read more

First City Credit Union is a bank. It's not at all a institution like Focus One used to be. When you try to call your bank you aren't calling your branch, you reach a Call Center. The people at the Call Center don't connect you to your branch either, they call and then give you the 'answer' to your question. Thing is they LIE, the information you get may not be the correct information. This happened to me. What I was told by the woman from the Call Center was not at all what the person at the branch tried to have related to me, so I was given false, misleading information that ended costing me $500 + loads of fees. And I'm screwed. Don't come to this institution thinking you're going to get typical credit union services - you'll have few branches, inept Call Center personnel and all the same fees of the big institutions. read more

I came in to open up a checking account, I completely appreciate Leroy's awesome smiling attitude and his guidance on who could help me open up the account . Thank you The second person I spoke to, was an older lady with glasses in the first cubicle near the entrance. Everything was fine, she asked for my ID, she asked if my address was current, she also inquired about the city I worked in. Up to this point everything was going well, after that she asked if I attend a church and in what city is my place of worship. Now this last question caught me off guard, at the moment I did not understand why she was asking about my religious practices. I also attend multiple places of worship, Catholic Church, Christian church, and Buddhist temples in different cities. I responded that I didn't have a place of worship here in Pasadena. I also expressed that I was confused by the question, and why she would ask me about my place of worship and religious practices, she seemed bothered after I asked and she put my ID on the table and said Since my place of worship, nor my job, or home are located in Pasadena she said we can't help you, you need to work, live, or have a place of worship in Pasadena in order to qualify for an account. I completely understand that there are requirements to join any financial institution and sometimes you can't go around them. There's just a way of saying things. I felt that there was no effort on her end in helping me become a member or in preparing me for the very personal question that she would have to ask, I felt that I was rushed out, basically "okay we can't help you bye" I felt super welcomed by Leroy but not valued as a potential client. read more

Back before the merger, Focus One was a WONDERFUL credit union. I went with a friend who was applying for a loan at Focus One. Even though there was only 1/2 hour left until they closed that day, the banker took his time with us. He even 'made a few calls' to get his loan pushed through THAT SAME DAY. The care and customer service was amazing. Now fast forward to Focus One being taken over by First City. I went in to get a loan, and basically stood at the teller window, helping her fill out the form. There was absolutely no customer service, it was very robot-matter-of-fact. (Not to mention, I was standing at a teller window, giving her personal information out loud with people standing right next to me. Every where else I've ever had experience with, they handle your loan application privately, away from customers.) When I got to "length of time at current job" question, well, I had been there less than a year, which I thought was going to be a problem, but the teller said nothing, and continued to fill out the form. And then 2 weeks later, I get a letter saying I was declined because my length of time at my current job is less than a year. If that was the case, why did she continue to fill out the loan application? She should have just stopped me right there and told me their policy. Now I have a *ding* on my credit report because of it. If I knew I didn't qualify for their loan, I certainly wouldn't have tried to get one! Who would do that?? She later told me that next time I could just go online and fill out the application myself. Oh really? Well how is that any different from BofA or Wells Fargo? One of the main reasons a credit union is beloved over major banks, is the personal aspect. The conversation. The expertise. The quality. This is basically Bank of America. The charm and care that goes into credit unions does not exist at First City. This lack of professionalism and basic training knowledge doesn't make me feel reassured or safe at all to have my money here. I've since switched to a different credit union, and haven't looked back. read more
