I was perfunctorily greeted and assisted by Vanessa Cordero at the teller counter. She was affable, pretty-competent, and professional. I had an incredibly frustrating experience at the Chase Bank on 860 E Colorado Blvd. I deposited checks into their ATM, and the machine literally ate them. Instead of actually helping me retrieve the checks, the bank staff just shrugged and gave me a customer service number to call, telling me there was nothing they could do. It blows my mind that a bank branch can have ATMs malfunction like this and then provide zero real assistance. I walked in hoping they might at least try to check the machine or acknowledge the issue, but all I got was redirected to a phone line. It feels weird to post a Yelp review on a Chase branch, but let's just call this a PSA (at my misfortune). If you are a Chase customer, especially if you have a safe deposit box at the Chase branch located on Lake & Colorado in Pasadena, BEWARE! I'm here to share my own story, hoping to (1) raise awareness in the community, and (2) seek professional advice and possibly explore legal options. Even if this doesn't apply to you, I promise that reading about my encounter will at least be entertaining (sadly, in an unfortunate way)! (TL;DR- If you have a safe deposit box at Chase on Lake & Colorado in Pasadena with valuables stored inside, make an appointment ASAP and go check. Make sure nothing is missing!) I am still in disbelief that something like this could ever happen in modern-day banking, but it did and this took place very recently. I have been a Chase customer for nearly 20 years, and I have opened a safe deposit box at this Chase branch in early 2018. When my wife and I got married later that same year, quite a few pieces of precious metals, jewelries, and family heirlooms were gifted or passed down to us from families and friends. I, just like most people, wanted to store those valuables in a secure place, and I had decided to put everything in the safest place that I could think of- in my safe deposit box, inside the vault of a bank, at this Chase branch. Since then, I haven't needed to access my box until a couple of months ago. I made an appointment with a Chase rep, brought my ID for verification along with the original keys to my safe deposit box that were issued to me by Chase. And in case you haven't accessed a safe deposit box before, it's just like what you have seen in movies: once the bank rep verified my account info and ID, I walked into the bank vault with the rep, we located my box, inserted my key and the branch key, and turned both keys at the same time to open the door to my box. Everything up to this point was totally normal...until the rep reached inside and asked, "where's the box?" I first thought she was joking but quickly realized there's actually nothing inside. I am not referring to the content of the box being empty; I am saying that the entire physical box (along with all of its content) is missing!! It was just an empty space behind the locked door, again, just like in movies but happening to me in real life. The rep escalated this issue within the branch, and every Chase manager/Assistant VP/VP that I spoke with at the branch that afternoon kept repeatedly assuring me that there are ONLY TWO possible ways to access a safe deposit box: (1) to use the branch key along with my key to unlock the door, or (2) when legally necessary, to drill through both locks on the door. However, in my case, there is clearly a third possibility. For one, I am absolutely certain that my box along with its content were securely locked away during my last visit. Secondly, the two locks on the door were not drilled, and both keys inserted and worked perfectly fine. So this leaves me begging the questions--what happened?? How could this even happen at a place that, for most consumers like me, is presumably one of the safest places to store valuables? If my safe deposit box was somehow 'misplaced', who and how many people could have accessed the content without my knowledge? And lastly, if my safe deposit box can go missing, can other safe deposit boxes in that vault go missing the same way?  A couple of months later, after many follow-up calls with the branch and their corporate office, an email to Chase's CEO Jamie Dimon, and filing complaints with CFPB, OCC, DFPI, and Pasadena PD, Chase said that they have "looked into this", and that there's no records of anyone else accessing my safe deposit box other than their "standard audits" and "maintenances". A couple of months went by, to this day, Chase never found the box or any of its content, and they never even acknowledged that a safe deposit box went missing under their watch. In fact, I received a billing notice from Chase wanting to auto deduct $70 from my account for continuing renting a safe deposit box (what box? Lol). Everything that I thought was valuable, both monetarily and/or sentimentally--stored in a safe deposit box, supposedly locked inside a bank vault at this Chase branch--is still missing. If you have a safe deposit box at Chase on Lake & Colorado in Pasadena with valuables stored inside, make an appointment ASAP and go check. Make sure nothing is missing! read more

I came here the other day to open up a savings account and upgrade my checkings account. The bank is huge and clean, parking is behind the bank (free with validation), and the customer representatives were hospitable. What makes me give this place 5 stars was my experience with Vartan. Chase sent an offer for 12 month 0-interest rate loan so I could use to payoff OTHER credit cards. They even sent me checks. I took the offer but it turned out to be a big rip off. Months later I discovered they were charging me interest without listing the charges on my main account. These charges seemed hidden. Why were they charging me 50 bucks a month? Money I sent to pay off new purchases were applied to the 0-interest rate loan so they could charge interest rates on new purchases. It was a big ripoff. Additionally they had other charges and special calculations to pay off my 0-interest rate loan before they 12 month 0-interest rate period. These guys are geniuses at stealing your money. I love going to Chase because I feel like everyone who works there is friendly and I have had excellent experiences for the past few years. I do mostly basic banking but also I have a safety deposit box which is free if you have more than a certain amount of money in your accounts. Accessing the box is easy and fast. There's water available while you wait for a banker. I think Kyle is the best right now. He's fairly new to this branch but ever since he transferred here, he's helped my spouse and me with our savings accounts, safety deposit box, and today he helped us open a CD. There's a 9-11 months CD at 1.75% right now. It's not the best rate compared to online banks but I was willing to make a couple hundred dollars less per year so I could stay at this bank. Ask for Kyle. He looks like he's 14 but he is so professional and knowledgeable. I've been very impressed. Other excellent people there are Claudia, who I believe is a manager, Jesus is a teller and always so nice to talk to, Jessica, who is very personable, Larae is great especially for financial planning, and another girl who's always there but I don't recall her name but she's always cheerful and assistive. The building itself is nice other than these weird statues in the front. You'll walk in and see these giant statues holding a naked baby statue. Hint: it's definitely a boy. It's probably nice art to many people but I think they're silly. Another thing you may encounter at times is the crazy crackheads banking at this branch, probably because the location. But to be honest I've been entertained by them and there's been no issues too bad to handle for the bankers. We stepped into the Chase to have a special type of notarization of an application to purchase U.S. Treasury bonds. Though we have been A+ customers on the personal banking level and are Chase Private Clients, and previously were co-owners in a business where we used Chase, we were treated as if we were trying to commit fraud, with such rudeness, distain, and annoyance that we were left in total shock. It was so bad, and so unmistakable that we have decided to lift our various accounts, including credit cards, from their hands. I'm also disappointed and annoyed that for months we have been waiting for promised calls to discuss mortgages. On our prior home we'd used Chase for original purchase mortgage and later a refinance. I went in to speak to them about some fees charged to my account that totaled almost $200 and they did nothing to help me. I have been with them for almost 20 years and I was about to close my account. I called customer service and the awesome rep suggested I speak to a branch manager at another branch. I had requested this at this location and the girl that helped me (forgot her name but the tall Armenian girl) said that the branch manager would not be able to help me. Terrible service. I feel offense and insulting. I went in a Saturday morning about 10am to withdraw some cash. I asked for some red envelope for Chinese New year. As a private client with Chase for over 15 years. I know that they offer red envelope to all clients for the special occasion. However the teller gave me TWO pieces of it. Then I thought it's a mistake because tellers usually gave 10 or more depending what kind of relationship with bank. As I mentioned, I am their private clients meaning I have certain amount saved with their bank and for a very long time. Took my brother to open a checking account and Varton Assoyan was really helpful he gave my brother this great promotional offer which was only good until August 15th, it gave my brother $200. to open his checking account as long as he got direct deposits and maintain a balance of more then $575.00 in his account every month. Note: They do not charge a monthly fee like some banks do and they also gave him overdraft protection which i thought was pretty good. He won't get his $200. promotional deposit until his retirement gets deposited into his account next month and it could take 3-5 working days until he see's it go into to his checking account, and he can not close the account for six months either. But i thought that was a great offer that most bank do NOT offer to open an account considering they all will still charge you to do the same things. read more

I'm sure you have no clue that some of us have JOBS or LIVES or anything other than a cardboard box in the alley behind the Pep-Boys to which we must hasten. Since you clearly aren't allowed to drive, you don't realize that this stupid bank has no convenient parking for their often broken ATM's. Nor do you therefore realize that this stupid bank makes us park in a structure five flights up, get a ticket, go into the bank, get the ticket validated, then return back to the ATMs. I really shouldn't be taking my anger out on you, I suppose. This was the first and last time I step into a CHASE bank. I have only had one bank my entire life. I walk in to inquire about a balance transfer. As I said, I walk in to Inquire. I sit down and listen to the options they have Next step is to see if I'm approved for the amount I want to transfer. End up only being approved for about 25% of the balance I want to transfer... But that's not what happened. Chase opened a new credit card under my name for that amount, instead of asking if I wanted to contiune. So the representative had to call and cancel the credit card, and now I have to waot and see of it effects my credit score. I was told their not a credit bureau so I have to call myself. I never really have any problems with this branch and the employees are super friendly. The parking can be tricky because there are only a few 20 minute spots out front for a quick ATM deposit so when it's super busy, you have to park in the structure in the back. I have been a Chase/WM customer for more than a decade. In part it's due to quality service, in part due to laziness for not wanting to switch banks. Since moving to Pasadena, this has become my go-to neighborhood branch. PLUS: Got excellent customer service on the occasions I have gone in to deposit checks/request new checks/get quarters for laundry. In fact I feel as though the staff has been exceptionally courteous in an effort to make sure my needs were met the times I have been in. Overall, very cheerful and helpful. MINUS: Asked attractive personal banker out on a date and got turned down. I think this is what happens when men confuse women being nice to them with actually being interested romantically. How about you monitor your bank account more carefully than gripe and complain how a bank is robbing you. Or keep your money under your mattress, that's a cheaper option :end rant: Every time I come here, the customer service is awesome. If all the tellers are busy, someone else will come by and help me. I'm super lazy and don't like writing deposit slips, the teller never seems irked by this. They fill out for me, have me sign and I'm on my way. Need a check in a pinch? I go in there and ask for temporary checks and in less than 3 minutes, I have a check in my hand. The place is nice inside as well and everyone is friendly. I just can't escape Chase! Years ago I lived in Texas and they acquired my local bank and immediately problems followed. I moved my account to WAMU and now Chase has acquired them and immediately problems have followed. This time they claimed someones default line of credit from WAMU to be mine and reported to the credit bureaus. I had no luck getting them to remove it, so I had to hire someone to get it removed. Talk about a pain in the behind! Now about this branch. I used to love visiting this branch when under WAMU's management. Now what have they done to an architecturally pleasing interior? They've boxed it in and painted it brown, where there one was a nice mural. They've added cheap cubicles for the "bankers," and I do use this term very loosely...more like college drop-outs, but that's just my observation...where the old WAMU bankers had large wooden desks in an open space. Now they have installed ridiculously thick bullet proof glass at the counters that distorts and you can't see when a teller is available. They have ruined this interior space and they seemed to have fired all the old friendly WAMU employees and hired a disgruntled lot. Why Chase, why? The saving grace for me is that I only use this bank for a safe deposit box and the rare occasion to get travelers checks, money orders, or to deposit checks and immediately have them send to my online bank, Charles Schwab.
