I was Mikes longest standing tenant. 5 years. I used my units primarily for storing everything I need to run my small construction business, which I had owned and operated the last 10 years.
About a year ago Mike asked me if I would be interested in doing a job for him. Hanging and finishing the drywall in his basement, which he projected to be ready for me to start in July. I gave him a bid which he accepted. I then proceeded to leave my schedule open for the next 6 months as the project experienced delay after delay while being told by Mike that the job would be ready in two weeks..
In October i ran into an issue with my bank and closed my account. I made Mike aware of this and informed him I would be paying my balance the following week while I waited for a check with my remaining bank account balance to arrive . He responded by telling me not to pay my balance and that he would credit my account for the work to be done at his house. See attached screenshot below.
That never happened. A month later I finally had started his basment. while working there I encountered several issues caused by to previous contractors that was in his best interest to fix. None of the light fixtures were set properly, walls were improperly framed, vents were not extended to meet then framing, pipes were not framed out, plywood in his bomb shelter wasn't hung. He also informed me that I had covered a cold air return while hanging. I removed two sheets of drywall and discovered that was not the case, i fixed the issue for him nonetheless. there was garbage, furniture, leftover materials and huge piles of wood scraps in nearly every work area. I informed Mike that i could take care of these issues however it was not in my scope of work and that I would have to charge him extra. This would also delay my timeline. Mike was noncommittal and bounced between paying his guys to take care of the issues who would cost him less money and having me do the work for him. This created much confusion and led to me falling behind my schedule and made it impossible for me to plan day to day.
Ultimately he elected to break our agreement and hire someone else to finish hanging the drywall. . He didn't inform me of this decision he just broke our agreement and allowed other contractors to handle and use my tools.he then asked me to give him a new bid to finish which I declined for obvious reasons as the trust was broken.
Two days later he locked me out of my unit after I declined to meet with him on his time. He then refused to pay me for any of the work done at his house and demanded I pay the balance on my units he previously informed me he was going to take care of. Plus late fees.
Today he auctioned off nearly everything I own. Roughly 150k in tools and personal items of mine and my family. My entire business and livelyhood.
I can cooberate every word of this review with text messages spanning back to June. This was deliberate and planned in advance. I was without my tools for two months while Mike held them ransom and used my desperation as leverage to extort me. My entire business was sold last night. M y dads car detailing supplies and his polishers, my tool chest and mechabics tools, gone.
