I'm honestly shocked this is the company our HOA chose. The invoice came out to $487.65 for a fire alarm service call and heat detector replacement. I understand fire safety work costs money and I'm not expecting bargain bin pricing for life safety systems. But for that kind of charge, the work should at least look professional when they leave. That was not my experience. The technician came out, didn't appear prepared with the necessary parts, left to get what was needed, came back and the final installation still looked poorly seated and sloppy. The detector does not look cleanly installed against the ceiling, which is exactly the kind of detail that makes you question the care behind the work. Fire protection is not cosmetic. It is one of those trades where competence, preparation and finish matter. If you are charging a premium, the work should feel premium. This felt like an expensive service call followed by a rushed install. Maybe the system is technically working now. I hope it is. But as a customer, seeing nearly $500 billed for work that looks like this does not inspire confidence. I would not choose this company personally. UPDATE: Ryan contacted me personally after seeing this review and returned to inspect the heat detector. He corrected the installation and provided a 25% courtesy refund. I genuinely appreciate that he took ownership of the situation and followed through on his commitment to make things right. Accountability matters. Ryan was professional during the return visit, listened to my concerns without being defensive and made a sincere effort to resolve the issue. Because of that, I've updated my rating from one star to three stars. I'm leaving my original review intact because it accurately reflects my initial experience, but I also believe it's important to recognize when a company responds with professionalism and makes a good faith effort to earn back a customer's trust. read more

First Choice Fire Protection - Heat detector replacement after a $487 service call. Function may be restored, but the finish looks sloppy and unfinished. - Fire Protection Services Near Me - Gardena, California

The great people at First Choice were a huge help. Couldn't have asked for better service!

We are a three-unit condo complex in North Redondo Beach, and we can't say enough good things about First Choice Fire Protection. The front office is great with scheduling and confirmations; the service staff is on time, knowledgeable, and shares the status of the system while on-site; they test and confirm each aspect of the central fire system and, of course, certify and label the central fire enclosure to be sure that our City is notified. Prices for annual service are reasonable. The service staff is very thorough. We've lived here for many years and gone through several of these services; we are lucky to have found First Choice Fire Protection. Highly recommended, A+++ on all parts of the service experience. read more

Thank God for First Choice Fire Protection! They saved me so much money. My building was overdue for a fire alarm test, and last year we tried a new Fire Protection company that ended up costing us a fortune. They said we had a bunch of problems and quoted us a ridiculous price to fix it. We decided to put off the repairs for the time being, but like many things this fell by the wayside and we never dealt with it. Life gets crazy sometimes, but honestly this should've been more of a priority. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I get a call from a Long Beach inspector saying they came by our building, and we are overdue for a fire alarm test. We definitely didn't want to get any fines, but we also didn't want to pay that other fire protection company a ridiculous amount of money to fix our system, so we decided to get a second opinion. I found First Choice Fire Protection on Yelp. I called on a Monday and they had two of their people at my building on Wednesday. After a couple hours they were done. The two people were very professional, and the service went without any problems at all. They told us there was only one broken device in the entire system!!!! Apparently the other company had lied to us and told us there our whole system needed to be replaced when it worked fine! The two technicians were able to fix the problem and now the system is working! I got a bill in the mail the following week and the price for everything was extremely reasonable. I will be using First Choice Fire Protection again in the future. Their professionalism was above and beyond what I would expect from any Fire Protection company. I highly recommend them for any Fire Protection service. They have absolutely earned the name First Choice Fire Protection. read more

We have used First Choice Fire Protection for several years now. Lewis and his awesome sidekick, Ryan, showed up on time, were extremely efficient and super nice! This was my first year as HOA president and Lewis went above & beyond to help us out. Danette & other staff members were also kind & helpful. Unfortunately it is becoming more rare to find customer service like theirs. You will not be sorry you chose this company. read more

I called them to repair the fire alarm circuit board at our condo. Luis responded immediately, gave me a fair estimate, and completed the repair within the timeframe he quoted and at the cost he quoted. No up charges or hidden fees! Very refreshing to work with an honest and competent service company. They are now our regular fire alarm inspection company. And we will hire him for the fire extinguisher certification. After using the previous company for over 10 years. read more

Company allowed me to bring a fire extinguisher to the shop and have it certified in minutes for $10. Can't get easier than that.

I had another fire alarm company tell me that the panel needed to be replaced at a cost of approximately $3000. I called First Choice for a second opinion and Louis came out and informed me the panel could be repaired for less than half the cost of replacing it. Long story short they saved us about $2000. In addition Louis is very prompt and explains everything in detail. I highly recommend Louis and First Choice Fire Protection. read more

First Choice Fire protection was highly recommend to us by a neighbor through Nextdoor and we sure are happy we called them. We happen to have a very old system that most other companies say they know how to repair and maintain but dont. First choice technicians where knowledgeable, experienced, polite, honest, they show you and explain to you every step of the way. Honest prices too. They may be busy and you may need to book a week out or so but they are worth the wait. Thank you so much First Choice!! read more

I had a great experience with First Choice Fire Protection. They have an extremely professional team of technicians that get the job done quickly and efficiently. Our fire alarm panel starting ringing all the time. We found First Choice Fire Protection online and all it took was one call to get the process started. They had two technicians on site the next day! They stopped the ringing and informed us we were overdue for a fire alarm test. The technicians were extremely professional. They tested the system, and even made repairs on site. Furthermore, their pricing was extremely reasonable. They are absolutely the best Fire Protection company in Los Angeles. We will definitely be coming back, and I'll be recommending First Choice Fire Protection to friends in the future. read more

Looking for a new fire alarm test company since our prior vendor's prices are exorbitant. Used First Choice for the first time today for our annual condo complex fire alarm test. Louis was on time and professional. Our fire alarm panel is 30+ years old and I was concerned he wouldn't be familiar with the equipment. He was knowledgeable and provided me tips for on-going maintenance to minimize costs. In this time of inflation, it was nice to pay a significantly lower cost than we did last year. Wish we had changed vendors years ago. read more

They are knowledgeable, dependable, an extremely reliable, I recently received a call from my facility in the middle of the night, 330am to be exact , that we had an active fire alarm. When I arrived on site I found that the alarm could not be cleared from the fire panel. After trying several troubleshoots I was unable to resolve the problem. As a last resort I made the call to First Choice. Within 5 minutes I received a call back from none other than the owner himself "Louis". He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and walk me through the repairs. It is this kind of service that prompted me write my first ever Yelp review.
