Am on the hunt for a dentist in Madison and have been for the last 4 years. I am special in that I…read morehave EDS with POTS so weirdness with pain, sensitivity, blood pressure, anesthetic, infection and healing. This was advised on my new patient forms. When I arrived, I was told that my California dentist had provided records but not the 2 I had seen since arriving in Madison - weird. Went through to my appointment which began with the usual questioning by the tech who also advised that she was not familiar with the office as she was subbing there. The dentist arrived about 20 min later to hear the tail end of the long dental history I had been repeating and who advised that I "needed" a full panel of x-rays. I asked why the CT imaging that had been done in March was not good enough and she told me that it had not been received (later, she said they did not have the equipment to view it at that office). I was then handed a quote for a full panel of bitewings and a panoramic of about $ 500 but with the panoramic being "comped" at a deduction of $ 200, the dentist adding that everyone needed x-rays annually. I consented and the dentist left the tech to do the x-raying. Once it was all done including the panoramic, I lay back in the dental chair with the x-ray apron on waiting for the dentist. After about 15 mins, the tech went off to find her but could not so said she'd take my blood pressure. Wheeled a machine over and took it while I held my arm up in the air - my reading was through the roof - not even slightly surprising based on my POTS and that it was being taken incorrectly in the first place. The dentist returned and left again to return with a form to be completed by my GP about upper limits of blood pressure. She then wanted to do a periodontal exam (with no numbing gel) and proceeded for 3 teeth when I stopped her. Took my blood pressure again, machine broke, fetched another, it had dropped by 30/40 points - still high but almost in normal range despite what was going on. Went to the front to pay and subscribed to their in house dental coverage which brought costs down dramatically. Husband waiting outside asked me why I had been there for 3 hours!!! Excellent question!!! Got my treatment plan about 2 weeks later, covering email said no further treatment without the form. I reverted to complain about all the above and received a snail mail letter terminating our "relationship" as no trust. Bottom line, aside from their website and automated intake of patients, utterly awful. Not a frog worth kissing for any reason.

So this is now Distinctive Dental Implants and I guess April Tressler bought it from Dr. Shipley…read more There are good reviews on both Google and Reddit and I have been having quite a time of finding a new dental surgeon since moving to Wisconsin from California from dentists who seem to think they should not be referring me to surgeons who will not see me without a referral. I admit, I am slightly complicated in that I have issues with anesthetic not working but other than that, have had a lot of work done on my mouth, need a lot of work because a large batch of work was begun in California and then we moved and so I want to finish it. I have been to probably 7 dental different offices since getting to Wisconsin and have had problems with every one of them. A dentist - and I was delighted with the honesty, eventually told me to find a prosthodontist as they deal with complicated cases (needing more anesthetic shouldn't be complicated but what can I say?). In any event, I searched for some in Madison and this office came up. Checked out their reviews and, seeing as they will do a free of charge initial appointment with a treatment plan thought they seemed like a good bet seeing as every other dental office tries to hit you for x-rays even if you have just had them done - I have had offices tell me their equipment can't look at a specific type of x-ray and I kid you not. The appointment itself was great actually, nice staff and Dr. Tressler seemed very can-do and knowledgeable. We waited at the front desk for maybe 10 minutes and I was handed my treatment plan with various payment options as well as a very nice discount offer - we are cash clients and off I went. About 2 weeks later I had decided and tried phoning to make my appointment - it was a Monday and they are closed on Mondays. Recalendarized and tried again and they were closed for some other reason so I went back to their website and found an email address. Sent a mail advising I would like to set up my first appointment per the treatment plan and that I wanted to pay in full for each appointment at the end of the appointment - one of the options on the plan. They reverted and said no, I had to make payments on the payment plan which was also an option. I reverted, somewhat surprised because that really is a first in my long and slightly wild experience with dentists and said that I did not want to exercise that option and that further, seeing as they had clearly left an important item out in appointment 2 - a bone graft after extraction where an implant was to then go - the treatment plan did not work because the amount for that had been omitted making it even more important that I paid as I went with the nice 10% discount they had offered. A week and a half went by and they reverted to tell me that I could pay per appointment but that the treatment plan was not variable and also confirmed an incorrect appointment date to the one that was actually made. I reverted and asked how on Earth they could think that I was going to have a tooth extraction and then go back to have my jaw opened again for a bone graft and on which planet did they think that treatment plans should not be variable? I should mention that I had, in the meantime, checked what the current rate for a bone graft is and, surprise surprise, it is pretty close to what was offered as the "cash discount" on the treatment plan. I further questioned the incorrect appointment date. Another week and a half went by and I suddenly got a text confirming the original appointment date. I emailed again and repeated all my previous questions and ended that email saying that no appointment was confirmed until all my questions had been resolved - bearing in mind that that first appointment consisted of two implants so not a small deal at all. Another week and a half went by and I got an email saying my appointment had been cancelled because of all the "stress I was exhibiting". LOL. Yeah, I think there might be some financial weirdness going on with these guys. As to their level of actual expertise, no idea because I am apparently too "stressful" - I think I am too knowledgeable but maybe that's just me :)
