First Chicago Remodeling did a complete gut rehab of our bathroom including complete tiling of shower, floors, walls. Installed vanity, rewired electric, reworked plumbing and installed new plumbing and piping to basement and upstairs bathroom. Installed new drywall, durock, new lighting, exhaust fan, exhaust vent, new window and primed and re-painted bathroom. Also performed some miscellaneous handyman services around the house. Marian and his team are very hardworking and diligent. The extra value that you get from Marian more so than from any other contractor are three things. First, he is honest and trustworthy. I have used Marian for several projects over the past 10 years and he has always been reasonable in cost and reliable in performance. Second, he very practical on giving you what you want and you will get it in the most efficient manner (generally saving you money when you want or need to upgrade things). Third, when there are challenges such as when walls are opened up and the electric, plumbing or structure is not how it is supposed to be, he is very creative and will fix the problems for a reasonable upgrade cost. I remember being concerned that the overall project cost seemed expensive. However, when I saw the actual work done each day over a few weeks, I really felt we got our money's worth. Marian's workers do good work and do a decent job of trying to be neat and clean up after each day though there is no escaping some dust you'll have to clean up on weekends. My wife and I have been very happy with Marian's work over the past 10 years. His services are in demand so you may have to wait a bit before he can start your project. FIRST CHICAGO REMODELING A05/01/2017 Description of work: We needed to have our upstairs bathroom updated and remodeled. Soffit above tub removed, green board and new subway tile in bathtub area, niche, shower doors installed. Tiled the floor, installed: toilet, vanity, mirror w/frame, lights above sink and in shower area. Installed heat/fan combination in ceiling added new electrical outlet and replaced the old ones. Installed all the faucets and shower heads, towel bars and paper holder. Painted the entire room. These are just some of the things they did for us. We are so glad we chose them!!!! We engaged Marion to upgrade our master bathroom (put in a new tub plus surrounding floor and wall tile). We are very happy with the outcome, our master bath now looks luxurious! Overall, Marion was very responsive to our concerns and follow-ups. When there was a leak as a result of demolition, Marion had his guys repair it even though it was due to the poor craftsmanship of original structure. Marion's team member Lado was very good worker. Even though we did not hire them to help with design, they offered suggestions based on our space. I.e., adding shelves procured through his network that matched our vanity. Marion was very helpful, assisting us with carrying a heavy delivery up three flights of stairs. Since this was our first home project, Marion was very patient and helped me understand items required as well as helping to pick out items when necessary. Marion was very responsive during the punch list, completing the project to our complete satisfaction. Marian and his crew were a pleasure to work with . We had over 6 general contractors in to give us an estimate on our bathroom remodel and water damage in our living room. We had major structural issues due to the water damage in which not one contractor was sure how to address. Marian came through knowing exactly what needed to be done. He came numerous times with different ideas and changes for our bathroom remodel. He had a 3D computer program that showed exactly what the bathroom would look like once completed from many different angles. This was a great bonus to see what the end product would look like. His crew was here everyday from 8-5. Not once were they late. Other contractors said it would take 8-12 weeks to complete. First Chicago Remodeling was done completely in 6 weeks as promised. Marian and his team are absolute professionals. We sought out 5 total estimates reaching out to 3 from Angie's List, and 2 based on neighborhood referral. Marian from First Chicago was the only one to articulate a vision for the project and even give rough estimates on the spot. His bid was also one of the lowest which was a plus (though I would have chosen him regardless). Throughout the project Marian and his team were punctual and did great work. I do a lot of handy work and can be very specific about how things get done. This is one of the rare cases where I've hired someone to do work and didn't feel like I had to constantly check in on the quality of work completed. The timeline for the whole project start to finish was about 4 weeks, which is not bad considering the size of our job/bathroom. As with any home project, there are always surprises and the FC team handled them without any issues or concern. I 100% recommend First Chicago and will use them again. read more

I had a huge misfortune to get into contact with this contractor. I have no idea who has written the other cozy review - probably his friend. It should have warn me that he seemed a little dizzy - let's put it straight : stoned, he couldn't find the way out after coming for an estimate. Maybe he just started using the things after the other job well done - I don't know. His tricks like opinions about my stairs and bathroom cabinets "well done - cannot say" might have taken me into believing he is an expert while he botches the job and he is an outrageous money-drainer. He was replacing bedroom doors and hallway baseboards. He botched the job, was lying about how it's gonna be done to keep us satisfied, finished everything in hurry and flew out with the check. After time I discovered all problems with his job which disqualifies this contractor for me. Keep away from him ! read more

Marian created two bathrooms for us (one existing one was moved and another from a closet) and took down a wall separating a den from a living room. Marian offers competitive prices. Marian respects deadlines. He's an honest man. Marian communicates throughout the project and is willing to admit if he made a mistake/forgot something. His team cleans up at the end of every work night to the best of its ability. Additionally, Marian was understanding of minimizing construction disruption to our toddler. We highly recommend Marian (and his team, Andy, Chris, and Robert). Marian has a great list of referrals if you need "a guy" for something else. Also, I appreciate that he didn't nickel and dime us for some additional small work we asked him to do. The work product looks great. Marian came to our house in June 2016 to take a look at the job. He was one of the four estimates that I had gotten for my basement finishing. Our basement was unfinished to start. After we got the four estimates Marian not only had the best price but he had the most knowledge when it came to construction and HVAC as we needed. We decided to go with Marian and he and his team started work in October. I was able to speak with Marian on a daily basis and he was very open to changes that I would request as the work was going on. I bought all the non construction material and he provided the rest. Marian also installed a new furnace and A/C for the second floor so that now we have a split system. To start the thing I appreciate the most is even after they finished the bathroom Marian as come back twice (the second time 2 months after) to check on a leak happening in the sink. The fact that he still responds and came over to take a look at it is amazing. Marian was also great to communicate with throughout the entire process. He was very responsive to questions I had and helped my fiance and I even with design recommendations and layout recommendations. With the master bathroom we knocked down a wall and they build a beautiful custom shower as well as all new flooring, light figures, vanity, and painting. This was our second remodeling project with First Chicago and we are as pleased with their work the second time around! A kitchen remodel was the first project (it was great and looks beautiful) and we recently transformed an unheated sunroom to a home office. This was our first experience using First Chicago Remodeling, and they came highly recommended from a friend. Our project was pretty small in scope, but the work and cost met our expectations. Our original sliding closet doors needed to be replaced with swinging hinges. Marian was able to reuse the existing doors with a little trim work, so that was a major cost savings. We had a closet door that had been off the tracks for a while and had just never done anything about it. Marian was over on another project and we had him take a look at the door. We wanted to make the sliding doors turn into french doors without having to buy new doors. Marian said that he could take the existing doors and make them look like brand new french doors.
