I drove past the Firewater BBQ location in Elmhurst and googled the menu to find out what they offered. The menu looked decent, so I figured I'd get around to trying it eventually. Today turned out to be that day after I drove past the new location in New Lenox. We arrived in the late afternoon on a Sunday and found the restaurant virtually empty. Sara was standing at the counter, and she greeted us warmly. She asked if we'd been there before, and when we answered no, she went over the menu with us, pointing out things we should know. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches, fries, mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and two fountain drinks. The total was about $45. The pulled pork is served without BBQ sauce because each customer can choose their own type. We chose the sweet BBQ sauce, which was pretty good. The pork was tender and juicy. The portion size was generous, so I was able to save half of the sandwich for later. The fries were piping hot and delicious. The baked beans were smoky and savory versus sweet, which typically isn't my favorite, but I enjoyed them. Neither one of us liked the mac and cheese, though. It was just okay. We both took a couple of bites and pushed it to the side. Overall, the food was pretty good. I'd visit Firewater again to try the hot link or the ribs. Sara told us that some locations have smoked hot link sausage, while other locations offer the cheddar jalapeno brat. This location had the brat, which sucked because I wanted to try the hot link. I guess that gives me an excuse to stop by another location.

The food preparers should be cutting the slices thicker so they don't turn into shoe leather from being so severely over cooked. Service was very good. I also love that they have an expansive bar that offers some great cocktails, and an outstanding Bloody Mary. It was a Saturday night around seven. They were sold out of the ribeye so my better half opted for the New York strip it was pretty good. It's a casual setting, you order your food at the register and they bring it out to you. They have a huge fireplace in the dining area so we sat next to the fireplace, relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere. I've been here a time or two and my favorite on the menu is the rib eye and the pork chop. I ordered the pork chop it's huge, juicy and it has a great grilled char. It is just an outstanding piece of meat. I also love their fries and garlic toast. After dinner, I settled in and played a few slot machines. This is what I needed, good food and relaxation.

The sausage was cooked to a mummified stick like appendage with a little beef "sprinkled on ( don't ever order a combo anywhere, just order two different sandwiches and slap it together) both sandwiches were D R E N C H E D in giardiniera oil we used so many napkins to absorb the oil, they were the worst we have ever had. Each bite brought more slop. Told my guest I needed a squeegee to remove oil from hands. It was to the point of seeming like someone was being purposely ignorant behind counter with pouring oil on sandwiches. Order took 10 minutes after order was placed. Girls had no clue how to use register. Fries were good, onion rings over cooked by far shake was very good with ZERO taste of strawberry. Must be a single pump of fake syrup used. Meal Was a whopping $40. I get it, everyone is trying to get a built in pool or the bigger lake house by gouging customers -oh plus the %3.5 using a card by every single patron using a card, what a racket!,-but PLEASE at least give me something that is within the realm of good. I will definite not be back. One and done!!! Next time in area try the micro brewery food down the way a bit you won't be disappointed might see you there.

Moya, the host, was incredibly sweet and so apologetic about the wait for a table--which honestly flew by because you could tell how well the place was being run. I had the Nashville wrap and my brother had the meatloaf. Everything was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes and green beans that came with it were just as delicious--comfort food done right. What really stood out was how much the team cared--Kelly, the GM, even came by to check in and make sure everything was perfect, which says so much about the level of service here. Despite how busy it was, service never skipped a beat. That's rare. Also, the patio is such a vibe! I already can't wait to come back in the summer and hang out there. On this occasion, I grabbed a couple of friends and we participated in the 5K Wine Run. Oh what fun! I don't want to give away any spoilers but there is good wine included with your registration. Stay for brunch afterwards, but I encourage you to make a reservation. Although, it rained during the walk/run, it was warm and still made for a nice experience. The sun came out afterwards kinda like an additional reward besides our medal.
