He responded quickly, asked a few smart questions about what the mower was doing, and was able to schedule me within a couple of days. He showed up on time, was professional and easy to talk to, and clearly knew what he was doing. Within a short time he diagnosed the issue (carburetor and old fuel problems), explained everything in plain English, and gave me a fair price before starting the repair. The convenience alone was worth it. No hauling equipment across Denver traffic, no waiting weeks during peak season, and no surprise fees. He also checked the blade, filter, and spark plug while he was there and made sure everything was tuned properly. What really stood out was the honesty. He didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary -- just fixed what needed to be fixed and made sure it was running strong before he left. The mower starts on the first pull now. Denver Small Engine Repair got my mower up and running in about half the time of the original estimate, and for about half the cost, too! Additionally, they were pleasant and professional both in person and over the phone. I would have given 4 stars just for that. Here's where it really gets good, and why this is a 5-star review. Being new to the whole home-owning, lawn-mowing game, I topped the newly serviced mower off with gas that was probably several years old. I had no idea that gasoline has a short shelf-life. So now my newly serviced mower would not run, and I didn't know why. I called Denver Small Engine Repair again, and they helped me trouble-shoot over the phone. They identified the bad gas as the problem, told me the best way to get it out of my mower, and where I might be able to dispose of it. Unfortunately, because I had started the engine with the bad gas in the tank, simply siphoning it out and replacing it did not fix the problem. Feeling really stupid, I loaded the mower up and headed back to the shop. Denver Small Engine Repair was so nice about the whole thing, even though it was my fault that the mower was not running. They set to work on it immediately, allowing me to jump the queue. (For those unfamiliar with lawn mower repair, there is usually a 1-3 week wait at most shops to get a unit serviced.) In about 40 minutes they had the mower running like new again. The head technician even explained to me very patiently about the bad gas and showed me a sample of what he'd taken out, so I could see the difference. AND, they did all of this WITHOUT CHARGING ME for a second service, even though I'm the one who messed up. To sum up, they did not have to give me advice over the phone, they did not have to fix my mower a second time at no charge, and they did not have to be so patient and kind about the whole mess. I went in there feeling like such an idiot, but at no point did they treat me that way. I called Kal to see if he could help repair my Echo gas weed trimmer. He doesn't work on them…read moreanymore because it's usually the same issue. He told me over the phone exactly what to do. Get all the gas out, pump the gas through the carburetor. Then let it sit overnight, replace the spark plug and clean the air filter. I really appreciate the time he took to help me out and without charging me a dime. I went to Home Depot and they had an Echo maintenance kit with the spark plug, new filter and a new fuel filter for $20. I installed it all in 5 minutes and followed Kal's instructions. It started right up and has been running great. I'll bring my chainsaws to Kal when they need maintenance. Highly recommended! Tom
