Stopped by Fireside Kitchen and was really impressed. The place is super trendy inside and almost feels like you're not in the area anymore. The bar is a great spot to hang out, and the overall vibe is really cool. The servers were all very friendly. They seemed pretty new and didn't know the menu inside and out yet, but everyone was pleasant and eager to help. One thing that caught my attention was seeing the cook hanging out near the bar instead of in the kitchen--kind of odd, but not a big deal. The food was excellent. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the short rib pasta was outstanding, and the pork belly appetizer was absolutely delicious and a great way to start the meal. It's a little more expensive than most places around here, but the quality of the food makes it worth it. Overall, Fireside Kitchen is a great addition to the area, and we'll definitely be back. read more

I saw the photo of the ceaser salad online and thought it looked amazing. I ordered that with grilled salmon. Sadly, it was nothing like the photo. The salmon was well done and was really small. Their drinks are pretty pricey yet, there is barely any alcohol in them. Waste of calories at that point. The ambiance was very nice and our waitress was very friendly and understood food allergies. There was a private event in the speakeasy so we didn't get to experience that. But we did go down there before we left just to check it out. It was nice. read more

I was beyond impressed with the speakeasy here! I won't spoil the way to find it, you'll just have to read the clues :) When you do find it, you'll be amazed at how good the cocktails are! The elegant drink menu has beautiful drawings of each cocktail to help you get a better idea of what it will look like! I had the SS Lady Elgin which had Altos Blanco, fig, beet, lime, and mure (which is like blackberry). It tasted like a drink you'd have in a juice cleanse (but with alcohol of course) in the best way! They also put a very aesthetic rectangle ice cube in it which we were in awe of. Decided to come to Fireside for mine and my friend's birthdays since our big days are only a day apart. It was also our first time visiting. We made reservations through their website, which was very convenient. I appreciated that it included follow-up questions about accessibility needs, dietary concerns, special occasions, etc. (which I feel they don't read.) The drink I ordered was one of their specials and it was very tasty. I didn't take a photo of the burger I ordered, but it was also delicious and cooked perfectly (medium rare). My friend ordered some sides, which were fries and coconut rice. The fries were good, but the aioli was a bit too mayo-y for our liking, and unfortunately the rice was hard. The entire time we were there, we felt like we were sitting in a refrigerator. Thank goodness we brought our jackets and were able to use our napkins as blankets! I asked if they did anything for birthdays, and our server shared that they offer vanilla ice cream. The other photo shows how it was served, in hot bowls with the ice cream already halfway melted. Not that it's needed, but a simple "happy birthday" from the server or something to go with the melted ice cream would have made it a little nicer. Since that was a bit disappointing, my friend and I decided to order the crème brûlée dessert. The server shared they might not have any left but would check. So we sat in the refrigerator and waited... and waited. The server eventually came back and asked if we needed anything else, and I had to ask again about the dessert. She then shared that they had no desserts left at all. The speakeasy was also off-limits due to a wedding event. I'm going to assume the wedding may have also been the reason there were no desserts left. All in all, I don't think I would come back. The food we had was good, but the overall experience felt overpriced for the service we received, and we spent the entire evening turning into icicles. read more

Interior and atmosphere are good. Service was okay. The Tagliatelle Pasta Short Rib meal was not great. Pasta 101 says to transfer the pasta into the sauce and toss. My plate/bowl had a clump of tagliatelle then sauce was added on top. The pasta was a gluey clump that I had to cut with a knife. They should know how to plate pasta. read more

the staff and atmosphere were very good. the limited beer menu was made worse when husbands first choice was not available and the second choice was not available either. my dish was burnt and they had to redo the item. for the price it was most disappointing and we won't be going back. Wow, I'm very surprised at these negative reviews! We went on a Saturday around 4:30 to celebrate our anniversary and we had a great meal. We do not get to go out to eat often and didn't mind paying higher prices for a great meal. Yes, it's pricey, but the whole meal from the apps to dessert was fantastic. We started with the pork belly app (if I had one complaint, the pork belly was a bit overdone and on the dryer side), split a Caesar salad, and ordered the prime rib and gnocchi entrees. I mistakenly missed the gnocchi sauce being arrabiate (says it clear as day on the menu!) so it was a bit spicey for me but I was still able to enjoy it. The gnocchi was soft and fluffy as it should be. Prime rib was cooked great, the Caesar was plenty big enough for us to share it. Our server was attentive, personable, and gave good recommendations for drinks to accompany dinner. The speakeasy downstairs was so cool! We were overall very happy w our visit and will definitely go back for future special occasions. (Our bill was about $200- we each had 2 drinks, an appetizer, salad, 2 entrees and a dessert. Cocktails were on point! Food was delicious! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her salmon and we both loved the Caesar salad we split. Although my hanger steak was wonderfully seasoned, I ordered rare and it came out medium well. No problem as our server Brianna whisked it away to be redone. My wife had to eat her salmon as I watched her so that it didn't get cold and this irritated her a tad. When the redone steak came out it was close to "tartare," and I remarked to Brianna that it seemed to be a payback statement. Off she went to fetch the manager, Justin, who immediately asked how they could make it right. I said it was all good, but he insisted and returned with a gift card for our next visit!! VERY CLASSY and a very cool place. Brianna was quick, efficient and friendly without being cloying. We will DEFINITELY return with friends. Wow, this place is awesome!!! Between the food, the incredible cocktails, and the ambiance, fireside hits on all levels. I had the old fashioned to kick things off, it was made perfectly - the perfect level of smokiness. We started with the bone marrow appetizer, whenever we see it on the menu anywhere, we have to get it. It didn't dissapoint, it was packed with flavor. Our favorite dish was probably the the short rib gnocchi - it had so many great flavors all in one; some spiciness from the red , the short rib, and pesto all in one. It's a must have dish. Apparently the salmon and sea bass are the best entree dishes to get, we will have to try them next time! Now to even put this experience at the next level, there's a secret speakeasy bar downstairs that you have to figure out how to get to. The vibe was right, the bartenders were so friendly, and the drinks were on point. Overall, this is by far the best restaurant in the area for both the food and the experience, I urge you to check it out. You will not be disappointed!!! What a cool spot, so glad we found it! Found this gem on yelp and decided to try it out for my birthday dinner. My husband and I sat at the bar and had the best experience. From drinks to the appetizers (French onion soup and short rib flatbread), everything was delicious. Amazing friendly service, and delicious food and drinks, we will be back soon! Our server mentioned the speakeasy downstairs and we had so much fun finding the hidden doorway. The drinks were another highlight of the night - excellent Old Fashion! And the food? Absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The bone marrow and the pork belly were excellent and very tasty. The kale salad was average. The short rib gnocchi described on the menu was different than what was served- no pesto. The salmon was a bit overcooked and the asparagus ends that were mixed in with the farro were tough. The New York strip steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great, but, was WAY overpriced at $ 78 for a 14 oz steak. One of our guests had to ask for 3 different types of alcohol before settling for one that was available. Not a very good selection for what a dinner restaurant should have. We were unable to experience the speakeasy downstairs as it was full. Bottom line: not sure this is the location to try to have an upscale restaurant, which I believe they are trying to aim for but definitely need to re-think the ambiance, bar, and menu selections and pricing to do so. read more

I guess because it's in a strip mall next to Mel's Diner I thought it'd be a little more small, local gastro-pub vibe versus fine dining. The menu is pricey, and everything is a la cart. We had amazing service to start with- Diamond is a diamond . The apps were impressive! Pork belly was out of this world, as well as the prisciutto flat bread. Good food but a little pricey for the area. We will definitely visit again. The speakeasy downstairs raised an eyebrow though. Two people in our group of seven commented that their cocktail/ martini was short and didn't really give the effects that a martini would have since it mostly alcohol...meaning how much alcohol was really in it?. A speakeasy serves nothing but cocktails so one would think they'd be excellent and wouldn't have to wonder if was made robust. A beer is probably the safest when in doubt. Better to have a heavy pour than a light one since that's all they're selling. read more

Great new entry to the Clarkston food scene. Although the building itself is unassuming, the decor and ambiance are "high end". Service was fast even with it being new. Food was excellent. We got the crab cakes, ceviche, sea bass and ribs gnocchi. Cocktails were also on point and the fun speakeasy in the basement had knowledgeable bartenders and a different menu of cocktails than upstairs. We will be back! read more

My first time there I was really impressed. The second time the service was slow. The food was slow. Presentation was lacking. When I asked for a sauce for my fries, they charged me a $1.50. During my first visit, my friend has fries with an amazing sauce to dip them (it came with it) if I had asked for some ketchup would that have been $1.50. Tacky. They also charge you to use your credit card. Makes me feel like I was being buckled and dimed on a $150 bill for 2. Basically, I won't go back because I don't like being treated like this. Poor customer service. It's certainly not about the $1.50. It's about the tacky way they treat customers. read more

The cheapest entrees are Potato skins at $21 and then a seasoned hamburger and fries at $22. Most appetizers are around $18. From there, a half chicken dinner meal is $36 up to $78 for a NY steak, conquerable to the restaurants in Birmingham that have spent more trying to look and act like the best with college schooled chiefs and professionally decorated interiors. At Fireside , you get an industrial look with steel colored walls, pipes and thick boards holding up the liquor bottles, and gear chandeliers with 1910 looking light bulbs. Expecting prices similar the The Rusty Bucket, we stayed at the low end of the menu. The fries looked and tasted like string potatoes out of a box or plastic bag like you'd get at Leo's Coney, while quality restaurants somehow serve up their own concockshin of crispy, very tasty fries. The accompanying hamburger was okay if priced no higher than $15-$16, but not worth $22 with the fries. The Potato skins were okay, but for $21, you get a lot more value at the Royal Diner. After giving the place a try, we left thinking that they thought they had a far better thing going than actuality. read more
