First of all, be prepared to search for parking but I found a parking garage about a block away. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly bartender who made a good bit of conversation with me. I appreciated that and he recommended the wings. I wish I had taken him up on the wings. More on that in a moment. I felt like pulled pork though so I went with the sandwich and Chipotle mac and cheese. The pulled pork was tender, seasoned well, and went well with all the sauces. I never had Chipotle mac and cheese as it was a little spicy but oh so creamy and cheesy! There are 4 sauces - 3 on the table that are tomato base (mild, Chipotle, and Habanero) and the Alabama white you have to request. The Alabama White was my favorite as it was very black peppery. And that is why I should have taken the bartender up on the wings because that sauce with the wings would have been amazing. The other 3 sauces were thick and rich. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! Very good BBQ overall though it is limited and pricey and worth a visit to downtown Knoxville.

Most of the stuff I've tried are fried; they do a great job with fried food. Avoid the Buffalo chicken quesadilla. Service can be a bit slow so I'd recommend going earlier than 5pm. "Likely the best wings I've eaten."…read more When my niece suggested Craven Wings, I was a little uneasy, but we were there to visit her college, so off we went. I was impressed on entry - everyone was extremely friendly, even the customers greeted us. We placed orders, and visited for a while. Next thing I knew, huge amounts of food were being placed on our table - the wings are made as you order them - none frozen. I was accustomed to the flash fried variety at one of the chain restaurants back home. This was NOT a frozen/fried wing. This was a carefully breaded, fresh-fried wing, shaken in a really nice sauce, served with a curly french-fried potato string. Just a really good meal. I was afraid ordering just 10 was going to leave me a little hungry - nope. I barely finished all 10, and I remain impressed with them. Everyone in our party had a really good meal, and I truly look forward to the next time we're down in Johnson University country so I can get back to Craven Wings! A "Strongly Recommended" from this guy!

I will say I was spoiled with amazing bbq in Texas before moving here! I came across Oakwood BBQ food truck when we stopped at Southside Garage for a few beers. I love food trucks because I always feel like they elevate food typically more then a normal restaurant. I ended up getting some sliced brisket with elotes (Mexican street corn) and coleslaw. I took one bite of the brisket and I literally thought I was back in Texas. I ended up going back up to the window and talking to the employees working and letting them know how great it was. He informed me that the owner is actually from Texas so it makes since he knows how to execute a brisket well. The elotes was good, I've never had it with jalapeños it was different but I wasn't mad about it. I've been to a lot of different restaurants around the area that chop up their coleslaw very finely where it's kind of like a mush which I'm not a fan of, has a weird texture. I like that they keep it the true way. I ended up buying the rest of their brisket they had on hand, I loved it so much!

The brisket was fall-apart, melt-in your-mouth meaty goodness. Corn was tasty & id have it again, but nothing is rave over. Definitely try the spicy deviled eggs. Nobody makes deviled eggs is good as momma T, but these are awesome. And spicy! Will hit Oakwood up again soon!
