Everything looked so delicious and I really liked the sample of the brownie I tried.... that I couldn't decide what to get. So I got multiple things lol. I was greeted warmly and all my questions about the different flavors were answered. It's a really cute location but I'm not sure if parking might be difficult at a more crowded time. S'Mores Brownie--this was extra messy to eat in a good way. I expected a bit more of a toasted marshmallow flavor. There was a bit too much marshmallow for the thickness of the brownie and I do love marshmallow. The graham cracker crust made it a bit dry. I do prefer a more fudgy brownie but the rich chocolate flavor was tasty. Adventureful Girl Scout Cookie Cupcake--the cake was a touch crumbly and maybe some people might find there to be a lot of frosting. The frosting was very tasty, though a bit grainy. It tasted like true chocolate buttercream- as in made with real butter Chocolate Chip cookie- a tasty classic version of its lots of big chips! Samoa Brownie- this was perfection. I could eat an entire pan of these. This was a more fudgy brownie, maybe the buttercream kept it more moist? The caramel buttercream and toasted coconut were the perfect toppings. I think the sample I tried was the Tag a Long Brownie and I'd highly recommend that as well. I'll definitely be back to this bakery to try out more delicious items. The cookie sandwiches looked great and it seems they offer new flavors all the time.
My boyfriend and I love Magpies. He has a major sweet tooth and needed a pick-me- up one day. I searched bakeries near me, and Magpies popped up. I had never been in and they had so much to choose from. The service was amazing. The staff was so patient with me, and took the time to explain every treat to make sure I got things he would enjoy. The red velvet cupcakes were our favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any of it! Quick side note, while I was there a man in line in front of me went outside and found a ticket on his car. He came back in and Magpies' employees took the ticket and said they would take care of it for him. Although it didn't happen to me, I thought that was so sweet! I can't wait to go back soon.
My son had a meet in Knoxville on his birthday, so to make it special, we decided to throw him a party before the meet. Not familiar with the area, I turned to Yelp for the best, closest bakery to where the party would be. Magpies came up and after drooling over their treats on their website and Instagram, I knew they would be the perfect place to order his birthday cake. My son's only request was for it to be chocolate. He didn't have a preference for the frosting. I saw on their IG page that they offer oreo cakes and he loves oreos. I called the bakery and asked if they could make a chocolate cake with oreo frosting. They said no problem. I ordered a quarter sheet and arranged a date and time for pick-up. Pick-up went smoothly. The bakery has an open concept and you can see the bakers prep right behind the counter. Very cool. I was greeted and helped right away. I've ordered plenty of quarter sheet cakes before but I've never seen one this thick! It was so thick the box barely closed. It was heavy, too! Everyone at the party loved the cake and asked where I got it from. The cake was perfectly moist and the frosting was light and had the right amount of sweetness to it. Even though we had around 20 guests, we had plenty of leftover. We ate some at our hotel after the meet and even brought some back to Georgia!
Been using this bakery for the past 9 years after moving here and hearing about them. You can't go wrong with anything they make in this bakery. We love their cookies, pies, cupcakes and cakes.
It seems I reviewed to soon. We got about half way through the cake and discovered a long hair had been mixed into the icing and frosted into the cake. So gross.

Okay. Definitely time for an update, as for the past few years, we have frequented both the storefront or in a pinch, the Magpies cooler near the bakery of the Cedar Bluff Kroger. The shop itself is small but mighty. Super kind staff who will give you any info you request. There are candles, plates, cards, and a few local gifts for sale, alongside all of the tasty treats. There are cookies, brownies, cupcakes, single cake and cheesecake slices and full size cheesecakes for sale. My favorites are the oatmeal sammie and the PB cheesecake. I normally avoid sugar cookies but their version with the sanding sugar is too notch! We definitely prefer the storefront, as the items are super fresh and I love that they carry the single servings. Whenever we are downtown for work, this is our stop. When you get something from the Kroger Magpie's selection, it will either be a full size cheesecake or a sampler box of cookies or bars/brownies. It is hit or miss as to how fresh the items are here. This location now refrigerates the sammies, too, which seems to dry them out quickly. Bummer. From either location, we definitely prefer the cheesecakes, pies, and cookies to the actual cake. Either way, support this local gem! read more

Where do you get a king cake in Tennessee? Magpies! I had never tried magpies before, but was desperate for a good king cake not a dry one from the grocery store. I've had king cake from places like Dong Phuong so my standards for king cake can be pretty high. Ordering online was easy, pickup went smooth (the inside of magpies is cute and everyone working was very nice), and the cake itself was delicious! I got the cream cheese and it wasn't dry at all and tasted just like a piece of Louisiana. My biggest complaint is that I have to wait another year to get it again! But that's okay just means I'll have to try some of the other treats that magpie offers now that I know how good they are at what they do. read more

At first, I didn't understand how to get a Magpies confection. The storefront is really their industrial bakery and (apart from a modest showcase of items which sell out quickly) most people seem to stop in just to pick up pre-ordered cakes. Okay, so now that I've spent some more time in these parts I finally get how it works. And now I'm addicted! Lucky me....Magpies is sold in my local Kroger store. Oh yeah baby!!! You know I check in there like 4 times a day for good reason. :) But you can also find Magpies for dessert at Holly's or at Three Rivers. Just check out online where they're sold. These cakes are GOOD! Hands-down the best I've had in Knoxville. You get what you pay for. A small handful of mini cupcakes will cost you $7-9. Oh but that lemon raspberry! Delish! They served this cupcake at the Bijou for Dolly's birthday event and I went nuts. Nom nom nom. And I also love the chocolate fudge and the caramel macchiato cupcake. It's a chocolate lover's dream. All their flavors are awesome. The chocolate pie is good and creamy. Not the best I've had in town but its ooey and gooey and it'll totally hit the spot. Nice. read more

My go to bakery for cakes of all sorts. When you enter, well when I entered, I noticed a little set up of free mini cupcakes! They had mocha, red velvet, and strawberry flavors; all of which I tried and all of which were moist and not too sweet. Great find! To the left is a sale section. That's where you should go! The deals are sick. Extremely cheap for one day off goods. I came here for a birthday cake for another yelper and went with the oreo cheesecake. I was debating between that and the lemon cake and I should have went with lemon - she loves her lemon! Regardless, she loved it. I enjoyed it too but nothing beats an oreo ice cream cake. Fabulous cupcakes and baked goods - the Sammies are incredibly delicious. I also ordered a custom cake for Valentine's Day that was both beautiful and very tasty. This is a great example of local businesses on Central Street in Knoxville - thriving and unique! read more

First visit but won't be our last! Red velvet with cream cheese frosting- delicious. Also had gluten free options without having to pre-order. The kitchen is open so you can see the cakes being created. Super friend staff. read more

How have I not reviewed Magpies?! Oh my god. I suck. One year ago my husband and I had a private wedding in the smoky mountains, just the two of us on a porch overlooking the mountains. When there are only two people at your wedding you can have two cakes - right? Right. My husband wanted the Strawberry Cream and I wanted the Chocolate Raspberry - both wishes granted! We both had our own personal cakes for our wedding and it was the best idea we've ever had. If I am remembering correctly we each got a 5" and it was under $70 TOTAL. For two wedding cakes! That's nuts! Such a good deal and we'll forever remember our perfect cakes. The cakes were so incredibly delicious and totally gorgeous! I wish we didn't live in Minnesota because for our 1 year anniversary I would love to get those cakes again! read more

A little bit of Heaven. Magpies' cakes and cupcakes are just a little bit of heaven on earth. There cakes are made daily, from scratch. If you are lucky, you can find mag pies made from scratch cakes, pies and more at Kroger at Kingston Pike, Cedar Bluff. Every Week, Magpies cakes are always sold out. My son loves, eating mag pies crumb bums. Thanks Beth, for always making every customer feel welcome each week at Magpies Bakery. Mag Pies, heavenly lemon cake is the best cake in the world. read more

I hadn't had a magpies cupcake since we closed on our house almost 4 years ago. I can't believe it took me so long to get downtown to this amazing bakery. We couldn't decide what we wanted but the staff was patient as we checked out what they had to offer in their front cases. We ended up getting a dozen deluxe mini cupcakes, which come with six different varieties. Besides cakes and cupcakes they also offer cookies, banana pudding, pies and, other sweet treats. They even have branded merchandise including baby onesies. I will definitely not wait so long to visit them again and it is nice to know that you can find magpies at locations other than their bakery so make sure to check their website to see if you can get your magpies fixed while shopping at your local store. read more

The best confection bakery for miles. They pride themselves on real and simple ingredients: butter, flour, and sugar. Be sure to stop in and try a sample, as they have a wide variety of flavor options. If it's in the summer time, see if you can track down an elusive container of their banana pudding. I was able to get my hands on some last season, and I'm already planning how to get more in a few weeks before they all sell out! Every item I've have from Magpie's is delicious. So much so, that when I was planning a baby shower,they were first in my mind when it came to ordering cupcakes. The entire ordering process was a breeze, and the girls at the shop made everything unbelievably easy. I ended up getting 3 dozen in various custom flavors and designs, which were a hit. read more

Magpies is hands-down the best bakery I've visited in Knoxville. Being a chocolate lover, my favorite cupcake is the chocolate fudge cupcake. OMG. It is heavenly! Magpies also handled a cake for my bridal shower, plus a small cake and cupcakes for our wedding. (We had a cupcake tower instead of a traditional wedding cake.) When I added red cupcakes with white polka dots (a la Super Mario's power-up mushrooms - our cake topper was a castle with Mario and Peach figurines on top), Magpies added little mushroom heads to the border around the bottom of my bridal shower cake. It was an awesome surprise, and our small cake from the top of the cupcake tower was every bit as delicious one year later. My family makes it a point to buy cakes from Magpies for just about every celebration. They made the cake for our Race for the Cure after party, for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, and for a multitude of birthdays. They are every bit as delicious - maybe more so, if you can believe it - as the cupcakes. Their cakes are moist, and the icing is to die for. I just can't rave about this place enough! I went on a search in NYC for the "perfect cupcake," but I swear none of those bakeries touched Magpies! read more

I was at Vestival, recently (a super mellow south knoxville festival) where they had a cake walk. The prize was one of Magpies' strawberry shortcakes. My friend, Carl, won. The cake was HUGE. He saved it until later that night, when, at a neighborhood grill-out, he shared it with 50 people!. Their cakes are beautiful, but SO rich you really can't eat a normal slice. Their cupcakes are equally amazing. Thus the inspiration for Yee-Haw's shirt that reads: CUPCAKES MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY. read more

The Mini (or regular sized) Red Velvet is what I get each time because it is the the golden one! "Real Butter All the Time" Butter makes it better...the wisdom of the ages! They also carry Cruze Dairy Milk; i buy the light milk and roll out with cupcakes in hand. I like you Magpies very much. It is not cheap but I want to patronize the locals instead of giving my entire soul to Sam's Club, Walmart, or Costco. They deserve your patronage here...spin extra coin and help the local businesses. It is worth it. I hear from others their cakes are awesome. I may order a red velvet cake from them sometime. Red Velvet and Magpies, a winner! If you call in an order they just might put a Magpie's sticker on your order with your name. Cute. A nice touch read more

Hello! We have wheat free vanilla cupcakes and flourless chocolate cherry cookies that are AMAZING. We don't say "gluten free" because there is gluten in our kitchen. Our products are not recommended to those with severe allergies.
