He went on our roof to inspect the chimney and removed a temporary cover, dropped it over the side of our home. When I mentioned the cover is used to keep insects and rain from falling through, he said he'd be back to replace it. After he promised a quote with the different options, he stopped responding. I followed up a few times and he forgot who we were and asked me to send photos of our chimney so he could remember. I tried to follow up with him again and was ghosted by him. While he seems responsive at first, I think our chimney may have been an issue he's never seen before and didn't have experience with. I recommend using a more experienced company and one that's more responsive.

When that didn't fully resolve the issue, he came back out to reassess and suggested installing a full gas insert as the next step. What I really appreciated was that Eli credited us for the previous work (gas logs and damper) and helped us choose an insert that made sense. The only hiccup we experienced was with the third-party vendor supplying the insert, since we initially had to pay them directly and ran into some issues. However, Eli stepped in, handled the situation, and arranged to pay the vendor himself, allowing us to reimburse him instead--which made things much smoother. Great insight especially when it comes to our chimney. We had issues with the chimney cap and the flashing in addition to the more routine elements of cleaning the interior smoke conduit. California Chimney Sweep was fantastic! They made a prompt appointment and arrived on time. All of our conversations were pleasant and all of our questions were thoroughly and politely answered. The inspection revealed a number of issues that required attention. Potential sources of water intrusion were meticulously sealed. The area inside in front of the chimney was carefully draped to catch any debris and then a vacuum device was placed in the area. Nothing escaped into the room while the chimney was carefully cleaned. As the work was done they even noted an area around one of our windows adjacent to the exterior chimney that also could be a source water intrusion and suggested that we look into having that area sealed. The tech opened up the fireplace, banged around, and determined that we needed $2550.00 worth of work done on the unit. Jonathan was my second opinion for the job. He opened it up, looked around, and determined that it simply needed a good cleaning and some adjusting. He cleaned the unit and the exhaust, worked on it for roughly an hour, and had it working like new, for less than half the price the other company quoted us.
