I don't get to frequent much, but I always enjoy my visits at Firehouse Wine Bar! I love the space, the history, and the original fire pole in the building. This is my pre-Mardi Gras parade spot as it's easy to have some wine and bites, and then walk to the corner for a great view and less crowded spot! My favorite wine here is the Honey Badger! Remember the "Honey badger don't give a s#*t!" craze a while back!? It's referenced on the menu! lol I literally love it, and if you're a semi-sweet red lover, you will too! read more

Great atmosphere. Excellent Wine Selection. A couple friends and I stopped in here for a quick pre-birthday glass of wine. Sadly, none of us had been here before but had been recommended to go. The ambiance is great, taking the old Mobile Hook & Ladder and elegantly incorporating it into it's theme. I am a sucker for a good Port so I opted for their flight to sample a 1 oz pour of each of the 3 they had (see Pic). All were very very nice. I tried a white port for the first time in my life. One the bolder side was a Fat Pig port. Balanced nicely in the middle was the Tawny port, my personal favorite. Service was great. Atmosphere very nice. One of my favorite places in Downtown Mobile. Always great service, good food and interesting wine selections. We love the Tuesday Tastings but have been know to come anytime. The ambiance is awesome and the meeting room in the back is very convenient when there is a bunch of us ladies. A definite must when you are downtown. read more

I really wanted to love this place! I mean, it's in an old firehouse. The ambiance is very casual and low key, which is nice. It's actually more pub-ish, than upscale wine bar feeling. You can plainly see the cooler with the wine bottles in it when you're bellied up to the bar. Opposite the bar is a wine rack wall with bottles for sale. It lacks that feeling of sophistication you might expect from a wine bar. If you're not a wine drinker, they also have a decent beer selection, which is wonderful. I'm not really a wine connoisseur so I just ordered the house special white blend. It was a semi-fruity white wine and I was very satisfied with it. The letdown here is the cheese tray. It's about the size of my hand and is taken from a cooler and placed in front of you on a disposable plastic tray. No frills, no nice board with bread and knives. Just a very small but flavorful variety of cheeses on a plastic tray with a few nuts and prunes, complete with a plastic pick fork to eat it with. What did I expect for $5? I understand they also have antipasto plates with a few meats, but they were also very inexpensive and probably as lackluster as the cheese tray. This would be a nice place to have a glass of wine or beer with your pals as long as you didn't want anything else to go with it. I guess my first wine-bar experience spoiled me so bad I'm hard to impress. This place is cool in that dive-bar-meets-wine-bar kinda way. read more

This is one of the best wine bars in the mobile area. They do a great flight of wine and have 7 reds and whites to mix and match. They also have very affordable priced bottles that you can purchase to share. They have an appetizer menu and a knowledgeable staff that can describe the wines (the menu also includes mini wine descriptions that help with directing your sampling!) I LOVE THIS PLACE! Seriously. If I could give it 6 stars I would. They are affordable, friendly, and the location is perfect. I always get the white flight for $10. It's a steal. You can also get 4 small plates for $11! I love the pesto dip and cheeses. The service is always quick and they always educate you on the wines which I appreciate as a new wine lover. This place is a gem! It's a tad bit off the beaten path, which adds to its charm. Set in an old firehouse, this place has lots of character and wonderful wines. The very knowledgeable staff is happy to suggest wines to sample. Plenty of by the glass selections, as well as over 250 different bottles to chose from. Their draft beer selection, while small, is well curated. They don't serve meals, but their small plates are excellent and very reasonably priced ($3-$5), as they should be. I read an article in Lagniappe about this place so some friends and I went last night before a movie at the Crescent. We were not disappointed. Upon walking in to the cool old firehouse I was immediately in love with the vibe. Cool African art work on the walls and cozy seating area with comfy chairs and sofa with little Asian tables set the tone for a great place to try new and reasonably priced wine by the glass as well as interesting craft beers. Cool vibe with music not too loud for good conversation with friends. The owners were delightful and provided wonderful service. They hope to be serving appetizers soon. My friends and I loved this place and we will definitely return. Mobile needs more places like this. read more

We went for the first time to the Firehouse wine bar after my birthday -- appetizers at the Noble South, then dinner at Noja. One of my coworkers had been raving about this place for a while now -- and I certainly see why. It's another place that adds sophistication and class to downtown Mobile -- without being stuffy or unapproachable. The decor is beautiful, with dark warm wood and a "loft" feel. You can even see the fire pole from the days that it was actually the old firehouse. We found 2 seats at the bar and were greeted by two friendly wine tenders. Their by the glass selection is plentiful, and VERY decently priced. There is a decent selection of draft beer -- mostly craft, and definitely not your bud, coors or miller (thankyou!) You could also pick a bottle from their retail side of the wall and drink it there if you decide to go that route. We also got to talk to one of the owners who said she and her husband settled in Mobile after falling in love with the city. She said they plan to add simple snacking options, like a cheese board to let people sip without getting too wine tipsy. I am very excited about this prospect -- we will be back again soon! read more

My husband and I visited this bar last night. The bar was full, but there were a couple of empty seats at the bar. We stood at the bar for ten minutes. Not once were we greeted or even told that someone would be with us shortly. We felt completely ignored so we left. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because the decor was nice. Loved my first visit to Firehouse Wine Bar & Shop! It is in the heart of downtown Mobile, within walking distance from all the places you would want to go. We enjoyed a few glasses of wine from their nice diverse by-the-glass selections. They offer craft beers too. I was happily surprised to see the fair pricing and big selections. The space features beautifully sophisticated rustic modern style. I'm so happy to have place like this in downtown Mobile! The owners are so nice and friendly too. I wonder if they added food options on the menu? I'd love to see some artisanal cheese with bread to compliment the tasty beverage.
