We were in Winter Park for the afternoon and looking for a good, affordable lunch. I'd heard about…read moreBricks & Bowls before (as well as the Ghost Kitchen concept), so we decided to give it a try. I was immediately drawn to the Ghost Pepper Chicken sandwich. I noticed they offered a Boxed Lunch combo that included a half-brick focaccia sandwich, a choice of side, chips, and a cookie. Under the Soups & Sides section of the menu, I saw soups, salads, fruit, chips, and bread listed, so I asked if I could get the Kale Caesar Salad as my side. I was told it wasn't considered a side. That struck me as a little odd since it was listed under "Soups & Sides," but I didn't press the issue and instead ordered the sandwich and salad separately. I do wish there had been a sandwich-and-salad combo option, especially since it's Florida and 100 degrees outside--hot soup wasn't exactly calling my name that day! The Ghost Pepper Chicken sandwich was a bit dry, and I didn't notice much Swiss cheese or enough ghost pepper bang sauce to add much heat or moisture. On the plus side, the focaccia bread was fantastic, and the sandwich was piled high with sliced chicken. Even the half-brick size was plenty filling. The Kale Caesar Salad was much smaller than expected and, ironically, seemed like it would have fit perfectly as a combo side. It also contained more romaine than kale, with just a sprinkling of baby kale on top. The Caesar dressing, however, was excellent--rich, creamy, and full of flavor. At $6 for a small bowl, I was hoping for a little more substance. I also treated myself to the Belgian Chocolate Salted Caramel Cookie that would have come with the Boxed Lunch combo, and it was outstanding. Soft, gooey, and packed with flavor. Bricks & Bowls has a pleasant outdoor seating area in a courtyard setting, with tables shaded by large umbrellas. Just keep in mind that there is no indoor seating, and even with the shade, it can be pretty warm during a Florida summer. Overall, it was a decent first experience with some highlights and a few disappointments. The food had some strong points, particularly the focaccia bread, dressing, and cookie, but at around $20 for a quick-service lunch, I left feeling that the value didn't quite match the price.

The focaccia bread was great and we really loved the peppercorn caeser dressing that came with the salad. My sandwich did not have tomato listed, but did come with tomato on it which was a concern because I'm allergic, but I was able to pull it off. Could have been more of an issue for a different patron, though! The guys behind the counter were very efficient and friendly, but didn't know what was in one of the sauces, which was again a concern for me with a tomato allergy. Overall, the food was super good and we loved the outdoor space, but we may not return!

He did ask if cheese and onions were okay which I appreciated. I absentmindedly forgot to make my buffalo cheesesteak with chicken. But it was okay with steak just not what I expected. Wish the cashier would've asked me which option I wanted but it's all good. Just know that it will default to steak of my you don't specify. Flavor was good. Sandwiches were hot even after driving home. Price tag is a bit on the higher side as the two sandwiches (one small and one reg) was roughly $27 without tax and tip. A $5 coupon was then applied so that was good. However, That was without sides. If you made them combos you're looking at close to $40. A tad hefty for my liking but I like supportinglocal

I tried the Philly cheesesteak on both occasions and I feel that something is off. On the first trip, I felt that the bread seems doughy and the meat to cheese ratio is off where there was too much cheese. The steak was chewy and different have must flavor that I'm used of tasting from a cheesesteak. In trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and believing that the experience was a bit off since this was carry out order and I didn't eat it right away, I decided to wait a bit before trying this place again. On the second trip, I ordered the same thing and paid extra to make it a hoagie (adding lettuce and tomatoes). I must say that I feel some kind a way about having to order extra for lettuce and tomatoes, but that was the choice I made. Instead of waiting, I decided to take a bite immediately when I got to my car. The bread was still too doughy for my liking and i feel there was too much cheese to make the sandwich too chewy. I tasted the meat separately and found the flavor lacking. In the end, I tossed the rest of the sandwich in the trash. So, I tried this place a couple of times and can't say I would go back for a third trip.

I ordered the Big version of the Prime Beef sandwich thinking I'd take half home for leftovers. Unfortunately the 1st have was so darn delicious, I ate the 2nd half. I stopped in after doing some shopping and placed my order online so it would be ready by the time I finished. I ordered the chicken club sandwich and a Dream Bar. It was after 8 p.m. on a Saturday, and the restaurant was pretty much empty. My order was ready ahead of the quoted pickup time, which I appreciated. However, the sandwich didn't quite live up to what I remember. The bread didn't taste as fresh as I expected, and the sandwich was lukewarm instead of warm and toasty like I've experienced at other locations. The Dream Bar was also not quite what I remembered. It didn't have the same richness or taste that made it a favorite for me in the past. I'm not sure if the time of day impacted the quality, but the overall experience just didn't match the Potbelly I remember from Chicago. That said, because I've had great experiences with this brand in the past, I'd be open to giving this location another try. To begin, this location is rather small and easy to miss from the roadside unless you're actively looking for it. Parking is also a little limited so I don't advise you come if it's peak lunch or dinner time. The place was relatively clean and had multiple places to sit even for a large group. Service was also pretty decent. They're friendly and make sure you get your orders right. As for the food, I'll say it's alright. They mostly serve subs and salads. I ordered the 5-0 which is full of pork cutlets including bacon. It tasted exactly how you'd expect pork and ham meats to taste. It was filling and tasty so overall good, but nothing to rave about. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you're in the area and need something quick and easy.
