This is really probably more of a 3, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because they had clearly just been mauled by a rush, and though we came in after it, there was just so much out of sorts that it wasn't a great experience. Anyone who goes to the beach during the summer knows that Saturdays are "changeover" day for all NC beach rentals, and Laurinburg is one of the few places that it makes sense to stop and have a meal along your route. It's not a big place, but every restaurant close to the highway gets slammed during lunch on Saturdays, and this particularly day for us was no exception. There were people everywhere when we came in, and most were just waiting for their food. There was not a line to order, and we were actually helped pretty much immediately. The cashier did his best to be upbeat even though it was clearly a hard day. We ordered an Italian and a roast beef club with chips and drink. We grabbed our chips, and going to get our drinks, the Coke freestyle machine was basically out of almost everything, even just standard Coca Cola. We settled for a mix of unsweetened tea and lemonade, best we could muster, and as a group got up we took their table. We waited a pretty long time for our sandwiches, probably 20 minutes. Again, being understanding that they were clearly dealing with the aftermath of a rush. When we got them, I am happy to say they were well put together. I didn't love the taste of mine, but that is partially my own fault. I forget that Firehouse steams their sandwiches, and that's not the way I like cold cuts. I usually get a hot sub at Firehouse, it just didn't click for me then. My wife was decently happy with hers. Overall, not gonna be my first choice for those trips between home and the beach in the future I think, even if it were a more normal experience.

Chili I received at Firehouse Subs. It was burned and hard as a rock.

unbelievable how rude the "shift supervisor" was when I returned with a bowl of chili which was dry and black. I asked her if she was embarrassed to serve something like that and her reply was no, I'm not the owner Laurinburg has plenty of fast food places but until they get workers who care about their jobs, it is not the place to get quality food.

I'm surprised how different this one is compared to the ones I've been too. the roll was a lot smaller, and my sandwich was soggy.

It took 25 minutes for them to make our two sandwiches. The music in the dining area was hard rock and too load.

It's nearly an exact halfway point, and also pretty much represents your ONLY option for food choices to break up the journey. That said, it's still not a big place, and your options are mostly of the fast food variety, and there definitely isn't much that isn't fried. Enter Jersey Mike's, a great place to stop if you don't want to be weighed down or groggy from grease. On my recent trip to Myrtle beach, i actually stopped both coming and going, and that prompts me to leave this review. As usual, nothing wrong with the sandwich. Good flavors. I had my standard Jersey shore special both times. First trip was a little meatier than the second, but not so much so that I was angry. Bread was great both times, Mike's Way is as good as ever, add pickles and the spicy red peppers. The charge to add chips and drink is too much, as always, but need a cup of refreshment for the road... so I cave, at least on the drink. This location is attached to a gas station, doesn't look much on the outside, but you've nothing to fear. Inside is clean and bright. Bathrooms are clean, but just show their age. Staff is usually just fine, some interested, some less so, but the job gets done. They lose the same star that all Jersey Mike's do for me, and that is that the price for a standard size sub, chips, and drink is just too high. I miss the daily specials where certain sandwich choices would cut you a deal... all apparently a thing of the past now. But, without a grocery store or local sandwich shop that I know of to compete, they get my money, even if slightly begrudgingly. I'll keep going, but dang Mike, help a brother keep a little cash!

I always order the fluffy on GF with no cheese, and he always orders the Italian on GF with no cheese. There is cross contamination, so if you are celiac, you can ask them to change gloves, use a clean knife, and keep your sandwich away from the others. We have almost never received the correct order without cheese the first time, but they don't make a fuss when asked to remake the sandwiches, and they are very apologetic. These sandwiches are generous with the meat and other fillings, and the pizza-crust-as-bread works so well. We also get their delicious potato salad with our sandwiches. The seating area is not huge, maybe ten tables, but we've never had to wait for one, and we often take our order to go. The restaurant is clean, and parking is fairly convenient. Even with the issue of having to remake sandwiches, I still rate Blake's a solid five star. It's consistently delicious, and I like supporting a small business in my home community.
