    Lunch!

My husband has his favorite here but the only thing I ever order is the meatball sub; it is outstanding! The meatballs are super tender and not dense like most meatball subs. The Mariana sauce is better than some Italian restaurants I've been to! As a bonus, a percentage of all their profits go to support your local fire departments

This is a newly opened sandwich shop and we decided to give it a try. So glad we did! The decor is like a firehouse and the tables are red with a Dalmatian white with black spots top! So cute! Everyone was very friendly. We went at an odd time so there wasn't a line. I love how you can get a small, medium or large sub. I'm not a big eater so the small is perfect for me. Hubby got the medium size; you can compare them in my photos. Hubby got the hero and I got the turkey bacon ranch. They have the usual chips and pickle. What makes these subs outstanding is they come warm with a toasted bun so the cheese is melted! Yummy! The price is very reasonable too. Great sub sandwich and fast, friendly service, what's not to love?! We'll be back and I highly suggest you give them a try! One of the best subs I've had in a long time!

I have to admit that I truly love this place! I'm not a huge sandwich fan to begin with, but I love that Firehouse always has warm deli meat on a lightly toasted French bread. The condiments and vegetables are nice and crisp, but the meat is always warm and juicy. The bread holds up perfectly but it's not overly crusty and it's only served with a pickle spear that just hits the spot. They also give back to our local community by providing millions of dollars in donations annually to our local fire houses. What a great way to have lunch and put back into the community.

They're semi-famous…read morelocally for their Sunday all you can eat brunch buffet but I went mid-week for lunch to try one of their sandwiches. They have both an inside and outside dining area, the inside being small and cozy, a little bit of an old school diner atmosphere. I grabbed a seat inside and was promptly greeted with a smile and given a menu by the friendly waitress. They had several options that sounded enticing. I inquired about the bacon they used on their BLT but the waitress wasn't sure except that it was a standard thin cut bacon and she thought it was tasty. Preferring thick cut bacon, I finally decided to go with the reuben sandwich with a side of crinkle potato chips. The sandwich was served to me impressively fast, less than 10 minutes and, to my surprise, the waitress offered me a sample strip of their bacon. It was surprisingly good so I may have to go with a BLT next time. Anyway, the reuben was the star of my lunch, served traditionally on perfectly grilled marbled rye bread. The sandwich was delicious, not a large amount of corned beef but enough to be well balanced with the other components of the sandwich. The corned beef itself was sliced sandwich thin, a bit chewy but otherwise delicious. I really enjoyed the sandwich. The potato chips were standard fare but tasted fresh. The highlights of the visit were the friendly staff, fast service, fairly reasonable prices and the free sample of bacon was icing on the cake. I'll return soon with my wife who is sure to order their BLT. I'll probably give their Philly cheese or french dip a try.

I will say this is an old school diner with everything to match. Luckily the prices matched up with the old school decor. The buffet is set out on the patio and there were plenty of options. From salad, to your favorite breakfast items- eggs, hashbrowns, sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, pancakes. Then there was biscuits and gravy, Mac n cheese mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, pasta, meatballs, brats and some packaged little dessert cakes and muffins. It was a great value for $14.95 and if you have a big family it is an affordable way to eat out and feed the whole family. My server was great, she talked highly of the place and with passion when I mentioned it was my first visit. I lived here in the late 90s and remember when it was on the corner of Clay Street, and I was drugged in by a couple of friends from high school, saying that they had the best food, I'm such a picky eater, and I didn't think I would be able to find anything at a place called chuckwagon, that I'd be willing to eat... oh, but I was wrong! They have something for every pallet and the food is all amazing! When I move back 14 years ago and saw it was no longer on the corner of Clay Street in 159, I literally felt a pain in my heart and I lived here for over a year before I mentioned to someone else how I was upset that Bert's was no longer around and how I couldn't believe it shut down, just to find out it hadn't, they had just moved a main street!! I was there with him 48 hours and oh my goodness how I had missed the awesome that is the Chuckwagon! Whenever I am asked what we should do for dinner by people who are in town visiting and they can't make up their mind on what cuisine they want, I tell him we're going to Bert's Chuckwagon, watch them, wrinkled their nose, tell them too late. I've made up my mind and that's where we're taking them and I get them there and I watch their eyes widen, as they try the food! Bert's is the best open secret Collinsville has to offer and if ever you find yourself, not sure where you wanna eat or have guests in town who can't decide between Italian/Mexican/chinese or just a good old burger, make the executive decision and tell them you're taking them to Bert's. Make sure that you emphasize the chuckwagon, watch their faces as they come to terms with what you just said and try and talk you out of it, but stay firm, stay quiet about what they're getting ready to walk into, and take them to Bert's!

We are always greeted by someone quickly and service is always outstanding! I'm obsessed with their super tacos but that's because I prefer a flour Shell. Prices are reasonable and whatever they do to their soda it's the perfect mix With the "sonic" ice!

All four of us got something different (I think one was a blueberry beer of some sort... but don't quote me on that), and all the drinks were so good, that we had to pass them around for the other others to try! Ended up going down the menu and ordering another one for each of us, so we got to try eight drinks in total and all of them were epic! The bartender was super sweet, and right there, even though the establishment was pretty busy, as soon as one glass got down to 1/4, he'd come by and ask if we were ready for another, but wasn't intrusive as much as just making sure we were OK and seeing if we needed anything. He was there and gone in a flash, as I think, he thought that since we were two couples, he didn't want to interrupt any conversations, but wanted to make sure we were taken care of. We made sure to tip him well. The restaurant was clean, the bathrooms were fantastic, especially for a late evening out at an establishment that serves liquor, it felt like a high-quality establishment, but in no way did we feel out of place, nor were we made to feel out of place. If anything is the exact opposite. The bartender made it where it was very warm and welcoming in a good place to socialize for us. We will definitely be back! Next time and time to try the food too!

The burnt ends were the star of the show, so juicy! My brisket was a tad dry. They also put the sauce in the fridge so it's cold, but there might not be a way to avoid that food-safety wise. Their wings are also really good. The mac-n-cheese side is good. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food out to you. The only other thing I don't love is there's two rooms, the main room and a room off to the side, and especially if you are in the side room, it feels like you are crammed in there with a ton of other people and sometimes it gets really loud. When it's nice enough, we prefer to sit outside as they have a few picnic benches off to the side that are covered.
