If you're in Old Richmond, this is the place to eat. It's in a historic building, which might make you think that seating was limited, but nothing could be further from the truth. There's ample seating inside and out. And the brisket was quite good. Most Indiana brisket is dry and chewy, but they do it right here.
Hubby & I tried this place for the first time along with my son. We perused the menu while waiting on our soft drinks. The service was attentive & polite. The ambiance is a turn of the century brick firehouse. Hubby & I ordered the Firehouse Sampler ($34.95) with 2 sides (mac n cheese, scalloped cabbage). My son got the Pulled Pork ($14.95) with 2 sides (mac n cheese, green beans). Both of these meals needed garlic bread served with them. There were 3 made in-house bbq sauces & they were all bland. Sadly, there was no Carolina gold bbq sauce. The meat was good but a little dry. Of the 3 sides we tried, the green beans were the best. I would like to return & try something on the Handhelds menu. I need bread with my bbq meat!
Wow! If you want to step back in time & explore a beautiful old firehouse & have some amazing bbq while you do it, this is the place you've been looking for! It is such a neat place to experience, from the old fireman's pole to where they stored the horses, it's definitely cool. The server was awesome with a lot of info about the business and building. We loved hearing the history of it all! The bbq was delicious to boot, so all round a great place to visit while in the area! We just loved it!
I can't even begin how to describe how amazing this food is!!! Ribs are kickass and the Brunswick stew is phenomenal!! The ambience is beyond awesome! I could move in here! So cool with the original pole in the firehouse! Service is fantastic. I'm in love with this place!
Passing through Richmond, IN area as we travel in our Coach. Stopped in for lunch. Had a crowd but not super busy. Good vibe inside with the Fireman decor. We sat at the bar... ROWAN was our Bartender. Very friendly young lady. This building is rich with history from 1860. I think the wall of badges, the pictures, murals & tin ceilings are very cool. Couple bar stools were on a fire hydrant.... Too funny. They still have the well worn fire pole... probably original. They are having music tonight. We ordered a brisket sandwich with coleslaw to split. Enough for both of us. Brisket was tender, moist and great with the sweet BBQ sauce on it. The Coleslaw was creamy and everything was delicious!! Definitely would eat here again.

My brisket didn't have the smoke ring and was a bit dry but I liked the peppery crust and smoky flavor. I did need to use a lot of their bbq sauce, which luckily, was quite good. The mild and sweet were on the table and the server offered to bring the hot stuff, which is what I like. The sides were good, with the scalloped cabbage a really interesting option. It was my favorite part of my lunch! The pulled pork looked good and the cheesy potatoes super cheesy. Portions were generous especially considering the pricing. I was also happy they served Coke Zero. Our server was really good, especially considering she had the entire room herself. Having been to Texas quite a lot barbecue is a tough one for me. I would likely return if I was in the area but would consider getting something different.
Having attended seminary in the Richmond area, I've long been a fan of this part of the state. While seminary is now down, I find myself visiting here semi-regularly because of friends who now live in the area and a friend who serves as a pastor here. The Firehouse BBQ & Blues is definitely a preferred joint located in Richmond's historic depot district. It's a beautiful setting inside and out with a delightful patio, dog friendly, during better weather. In case it's not obvious, The Firehouse emphasizes both quality BBQ and live music (not just blues, though there's definitely a lot of blues). This is slow-cooked, wood-smoked BBQ. The menu emphasizes BBQ, of course, but there are other options including a pretty awesome pizza. You can get ribs, chicken, pulled pork, BBQ, beef brisket, tacos, wraps, smoked sausage, cheesesteak, a few appetizers, soups, some unique potato combinations, salads, and there is a kids' menu. There's also a handful of dessert options - I recommend the peanut butter pie. Delish. They serve Coke products and do have iced tea options. The Firehouse is closed on Sundays. They have live music pretty regularly - the website is a good source of info, though for truly current stuff you may want to check their Facebook page. Fun facts: This building really is a Civil War era building in Richmond and was a firehouse for around 70 years. The firehouse theme is throughout the building - Murals and memorabilia, including badges, actual firemen uniforms, and other nostalgic items. You've also got a lot of music-themed items throughout with blues items dominating and references to the former Gennett Records (which was based in Richmond). Is The Firehouse perfectly accessible? Nope. No historic building is for the most part, however, it's super easy to dine here and you can easily both dine and enjoy music here if you have mobility concerns (as I do). I did not try the restrooms and haven't necessarily gone around the place completely enough to give great detail.
In town for the eclipse, there was a healthy crowd enjoying lunch. Luckily the service was fine and got my meal. Here's the rundown: Brisket Sandwich: A lean cut that was on the dry side but full of smoky flavor. Cheesy Potatoes: The cross-cross of French Fries and Mac & Cheese taste profiles I didn't know I needed. Mild BBQ Sauce: It has a spicy, tangy, and peppery kick. Overall, a solid lunch option in Richmond's Depot District. I enjoyed my meal thoroughly- I wish I could give this a 3.5 rating, as I think it's right in-between a 3 and a 4 star.
This place is awesome I love the blues/firehouse atmosphere. I had the firehouse Texas potato with a side of Mac. Very tasty food I scraped the pan. The waitress was polite and there when we needed her.
very clean restaurant, went at very slow time, service was wonderful, the food was great and very reasonably priced. We had the stuffed mushroom, and philly steak sandwiches. Definitely recommend. Took two boxes to go too much food.
Back to Firehouse after a pandemic break. I am happy to say that the food and ambiance has survived. Ambiance: it's a firehouse. It's a blues shrine. The tables and walls educate. No music at the time, though. Would love to listen some time. Service? Wow. Friendly. Super efficient. THE FOOD: Yum. The jalapeño poppers are really delicious and an appetizer. They prime you for the next round. The meat is excellent. Take your smoked pick. Sides can be seasonal (sweet potato casserole or potato). While I am sure they are excellent, how can anyone pass a cabbage casserole. So rare. So wonderful. Mac and cheese were fine. Really good beans, both green and baked. Worth the stop? Heck yeah. Even without the blues.

Hallelujah the sweet potato casserole is back. This is a seasonal item and my personal favorite. Parrot with Tom's Mojo, which is pulled pork mac & cheese on sourdough bread and grilled... You have an experience that will please any pallet. I love it that they have three different barbecue sauces for you to choose from, Hot, sweet and mild. To me it lets you choose the flavors you like because one has a little more of a brown sugar taste and the other has a little more of a vinegar taste. I like to dip my sandwich. I got the visit in the evening and introduce a friend from Michigan to one of my favorite restaurants. He was so happy with a brisket. There is so much history and so many cool things to read on the walls. The decor is charming and it's an awesome place to sit and have a beer and catch up with a friend afterwards. It's my favorite for lunch and dinner in the depot district. read more

Accommodating staff (opened the patio so we could sit outside!) Great service being the only ones on the patio. On top of all that, DELICIOUS meaty pork sandwiches. The Mojo sandwich was delicious!!! All my favorites in one sandwich! BBQ beans hot and delicious! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this location. The atmosphere and service were fantastic both nights we visited. There is also live music in multiple places which we really enjoyed. The food, so so delicious, especially the potatoes! Really wish this location was closer to us. read more

We had such an enjoyable experience here. From the moment you walk in Santini greets you with a smile and her "hoot" of a personality. My mom and I chose to sit at the bar, though wherever you sit is great because all of the serving staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but Becca at the Bar she knows her stuff and she's no nonsense. We had such a delightful time talking and laughing and sharing stories and then the food came and you get real quiet because your mouth is so full of the melt off the bone meat they put in front of you. We did the sampler platter, which lets you experience all their different meats, sauces are tasty and separate so you control how much or how little and you can order a couple of rolls if you want to make a sandwich. This platter could feed 2 to 4 people depending on who's in your group. The bartender can get crafty with your drinks if you're willing to trust your bartender. All around, from beginning to end a great experience. Great fun and fantastic food...and spirits. Oh and get the peanut butter pie. read more

What a fun, blues-y place to enjoy a BBQ meal!!! The interior is fun and decorated with blues artists and autographed guitars! It's housed in an old firehouse so the mix of firehouse, bbq and music is a lot of fun!! The staff are super friendly and the food comes out quickly, hot and tastes amazing!! My daughters go to school at Earlham College in Richmond and this is going to be a regular visit for us!!!! read more
Was in the area taking day trip to see waterfalls. My hubby who is my driver navigator got hungry and we gave this a try. SUPER CUTE PLACE. CUTE MURALS OUTSIDE. I'm not huge fan of meat but my hubby is a meat and taters fan. The smell of smokey bbq meat wafted outside. We both got the pulled pork. It was lean and tender. Only small amount of fat that was easy to see and discard. 3 types of bbq at tables .. sweet, mild and hot. Service was good. They had flat breads and a vegetarian mushroom sandwich. read more

Coming to visit a town we were fortunate to find this Barbeque restaurant opened by former firefighters. The history and unique ambience was spectacular. The opportunity to listen to live bands in the outdoor eating area during the summer is enjoyable. Our waitress Trish was friendly and responsive. I wanted a microbrew IPA beer but I was not sure which one I wanted, so Trish brought me three samples. Wow. Then I wanted an appetizer but I told our waitress Trish that I didn't want fried jalepino peppers. The waitress told me they backed. The poppers were just spicy enough but not too much. Then we had the pulled pork which was tender and moist and the Brunswick Stew which had sausage, pork, chicken and ham. Amazing. I then wanted a stout beer and once again our waitress surprised us with three samples. Truly amazing service. The decorations, music history of the area and tribute to the firefighters in a preserved firehouse was truly unique. If you are looking for a unique BBQ restaurant with superior service, delicious food and reasonably prices, this is the place you can't miss. read more
My husband and I traveled from the Chicagoland area to Richmond, and needed dinner after a long, hot day outside at the Squarebody Truck show. We love us some BBQ, so we had to try this place out! We were greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. Then the hostess showed us the exact table we should choose. Lol She was super friendly and I loved her energy. And the whole blues vibe is always a great thing. I loved the blues on the speakers and the bluesy vibe/decor of the place. Husband got brisket dinner with beans and mac & cheese. Brisket was very tender and not salty. He would have preferred more flavor in the "crust" part, but the tenderness and BBQ sauce made up for it. The mac was a little grainy for his liking. I got the cheesesteak sandwich, which was loaded with brisket, cheese and peppers on a roll. Please do yourself a favor and GET THIS! Lots of flavor, super juicy and so big that I could only eat half. I also got the cheesy potatoes as a side. Good stuff! It reminded me of hashbrown casserole from Cracker Barrel. I got a cream ale in a large glass boot. Very good. Nice size! I so wish this place were closer to home. I'm sure we'll be back for next year's truck show, so we'll be back!! read more

Visiting Richmond to drop my son off we stumbled on to this fabulous places.. by far starting off with the Nachos which maybe the best we have had anyplace in the world. The quality of everything on them to the chips them selves..oh my. The chili and grilled cheese just kept going the amazing flavor and quality. My suggestion to you is if in Richmond stop in to the Firehouse and enjoy !.. read more
