Absolutely love this intimate restaurant in the heart of Glen Ellyn. The low lighting and warm atmosphere are perfect for a date night or girls night out with a glass of wine. They have an excellent bar up front and make great cocktails- my husband and dad both love the classic old fashion! I'm a sucker for a nice glass of Pinot Noir. If you're dining in (and you really should!) The pasta bolognese is a must have. Always amazing. And the black pepper shrimp over polenta is an amazing appetizer! So rich and delicious. These are both part of my go-to order here. Recently expanded my order and tried the short rib over polenta for the first time, it was amazing. Tender. Flavorful. Good sized portion. Wonderful. Will absolutely get again. For dessert, and there's always room for dessert here in my opinion, I love to get the rich panna cotta. This past time though we got the butterscotch budino, which was smooth and rich without being overly sweet. It was perfect to share (or not)! Just enough hint of butterscotch and topped with a crumbled shortbread cookie to an add a little crunch to the otherwise creamy treat. The staff is always helpful in making recommendations to suit your tastes too! There is a call ahead wait list and they've also started taking reservations. Stopped by Fire + Wine in Glen Ellyn for dinner. Overall a 3.5-star experience for me. We tried a couple pasta dishes -- the rigatoni with meat ragu and the short rib pasta. Ravioli with mushrooms all 3 were solid dishes. The ragu had good flavor and the portion was fair, and the short rib was tender with a rich sauce that worked well with the pasta the ravioli was rich and very well balanced in truffle oil. Nothing overly fancy, just good, hearty Italian-style plates. Dessert was a warm chocolate cake with powdered sugar, whipped cream, and strawberries, which was meh could tell it was baked a few days . Simple and satisfying. Service from Efren was friendly and the place has a nice neighborhood vibe. Overall a good local spot for pasta and wine, even if nothing completely blew me away. read more

This was the loveliest experience. Our waitress was so kind and attentive and helpful, the staff kept our waters full (and bottles are left at the tables so you're never left thirsty), and the food was very good. We added pepperoni to the four cheese pizza, and it was really good, but note that ricotta comes on it by default (which is unique for a "four cheese pizza") and you might want to ask for no ricotta if you don't love ricotta. It came in clumps all over the pizza, so it should be easy to exclude. The vodka pasta was very spicy to me as someone who can't handle spice and I had to order a glass of milk to help me through it, but it was really yummy. The place is also decorated so beautifully, including the bathrooms. Coming here was a luxurious experience that I definitely recommend! read more

I had originally found this place on social media. My friend and I went on a Saturday night, made reservations few days ahead, when we arrived they mentioned they are running 15 minutes behind, no big deal, but we ended up waiting 30 minutes even with a reservation made, this was very disappointing. Service was very good. Food was great as well, they also have gluten free options which makes ordering easy. The menu is very similar to Gia Mia's. It's a great place overall to try out but I would suggest going on a weekday or having an early dinner. read more

I've been here a couple other times and enjoyed myself, but today the food seemed better than ever! I had the delicious spicy chicken tortellini. Our waiter was speedy and friendly. They'd decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere felt very warm (though personally I feel the TVs kill the vibe a bit). We called to make a reservation and the very cheerful Lexie answered the phone ... very politely said come on over . We were seated immediately after checking out of indoor was better than patio seating. My colleague wasn't happy about being squished between tables so approached Lexie again who generously accommodated us at a corner booth. Have wanted to try this place since we moved to the area and finally having decent weather last weekend allowed us to as we were able to sit outside. Started with a Little Green cocktail and an Ancestral Red Blend. The Little green wasn't kidding with the spicy jalepeno tequila. We started with house salads before moving to the Fig and Prosciutto Pizza and the Spicy Chicken Tortellini. Salads were nothing to write home about, but the pizza and pasta was good. Fire & Wine is a victim of their own success as Glen Ellyn's busiest restaurant, and it shows. This place is always packed. We've literally gotten first seating reservation early in the week on a cold day, it's still full. The problem is the seating is incredibly tight. You'll be elbow-to-elbow at a 4-top and you can tell they've tried to get a table into every imaginable spot, including one instance where there's a table in front of a corner booth (so the booth looks out at the backs of another group). My group estimated there were 14 people across 5 tables in a 7'x7' square. If you're curious what your neighbors are up to, it's easy to hear their conversation. If you have young kids who are curious, you'll spend the meal trying to get them to not be. With or without kids, it's a stressful environment anywhere in the dinning room that distracts from enjoying your meal. The service is good, but can be slow. Little things like having to ask for water service just make it feel....rushed? Food is fine, outside of the pizza and some creativity on the menu which are really good. There is no value there, they're popular and they know it. For the price you'll pay you'd expect a better eating experience read more

I love this restaurant. The pizza and pasta is always delicious and the service is very kind and professional as well. They just remodeled and it's very nice inside. Expect a wait if you do not have a reservation. Price is higher than average but normal for the area. I order their margherita pizza all the time and it's always perfect. They have a cool rotating chefs menu also. Only thing I wish was different is that they used to have really good to go deals on different nights of the week and they got rid of them after the remodel for some reason. Absolutely incredible! They don't take reservations but they do priority seating if you call ahead so we did that and had no issues on a Friday night. In fact, we got one of the best seats in the house: a two-person high top in the front corner that had the most amazing view of the sunset. Our waiter was excellent. I forgot his name but he was super attentive and gave some great recommendations. For drinks, I tried the On the Strawberry Swing which was great! All the appetizers looked SO good. We ended up ordering the baked brie and mussels. Again, both dishes exceeded my expectations. At that point we were both already pretty full so we split the fig and prosciutto pie. The crust was so fresh and soft and it had just the right amount of toppings. At the end they brought out a surprise dessert for my birthday which was so great and embarrassing. There are very few places that still do free birthday desserts so that was a great surprise. Overall an incredible night. Great environment. Great service. And even greater food! read more

Highest recommendations. This was my second time going to Fire + Wine but has been about two years since my last visit. For being one of the busiest dining night of the year (nye), they exceeded my expectations. I made a 7pm reservation and when our table was slightly delayed, the girls at the host stand kept us well informed and handled the situation with the utmost sense of professionalism. Staff was hustling all night but our server, Rachael, was constantly smiling, checking in on us, and not pressuring us on time. She exemplified the best character and how a customer would want to feel for a holiday night. For cocktails, we started with a round of the nye specials: midnight kiss and bourbon + bubbly. Rachael recommended these as the bartenders put a lot of thought into them for one night only. The bourbon + bubbly was the perfect mix of fruity, sweet, and bourbon forward. The midnight kiss has a sparkly wow favor and tasted like fruity champagne. We later got The Wet Bandits and Settanta Cinque which may have been even more delicious than our first round. The Wet Bandits was a light and refreshing drink with pear flavor. The Settanta Cinque almost a take on a lemoncello lemon drop with gin flavor. For appetizers, we got the Ricotta + Honeycomb as well as the Arancini Mozzarella. This may have been THE best ricotta and honey appetizer I've tried. The ricotta was perfectly whipped and honeycomb was served in a fresh raw block. The Arancini was filled with their house risotto and came with a nice red sauce. For mains, we got the Vodka Pasta with Italian Sausage and Rigatoni Bolognese with a Meatball. The Vodka Pasta wasn't overly sauced, the prosciutto was nice and crispy, and italian sausage really added a nice touch. The Rigatoni Bolognese a perfect mix of pasta and meat sauce. Highly recommend adding the meatball! The sauce showed a lot of depth and all pasta must have been homemade. To end our perfect night, we got the Italian Doughnuts which were a perfect shareable size but also great to take home as leftovers! I cannot reiterate enough how great this restaurant is from food, to staff, to ambiance. It's the perfect place for a date night or to catch up with friends/family. The Honeycomb Ricotta was one of the best things that we had, and was perfect for two people to share. The Veal Marsala is one of the best meals, but the Pizzas are great (and can be shared between two people). GOOD. Might be the star of the meal. Grilled chicken can sometimes be dry but man, not here. The wings were incredibly juicy and flavorful. It has a nice spicy kick to it, but nothing unbearable. I'd say this is a must order! Grilled chicken + bacon pizza - 4.5/5 stars Thin crust, chewy with a nice crunch - the perfect cook on a pizza! We were worried this pizza would be heavy but it wasn't. The red onions helped lighten the dish. Rock shrimp + linguine - 4/5 stars This pasta has a Parmesan cream and basil pesto sauce. Linguine cooked al dente and the shrimp cooked well, not rubbery/over cooked at all. It was yummy, no complaints here. The Mint Condition drink was very refreshing but seemed like 90% ice lol. Got my money's worth with a beer as my next drink. The food was delicious, but hats off to the phenomenal service. We ordered the gnocchi first, finished it then ordered the wings, pasta and pizza together. We really really appreciate how the restaurant staff plans the orders so the dishes come out with perfect timing. Our wings came out first, and once finished, pizza followed. The pasta came out a little after once we had stuffed ourself with pizza. All the food was hot and didn't seem like it was sitting out, so it seems like this restaurant takes extra planning when orders are sent/cooked so the customers don't have a completely tight squeeze on the table. Stopping in on a Tuesday evening and probably needing a reservation is a testimony to how great the food is. Even though we didn't have a reservation, the hostesses worked their magic and got us a table in 20 minutes. It's not a big restaurant and can be noisy. Once we sat down we were greeted with a server who was intuitive enough to know we needed some time to look at the menu. When she came back we ordered a few small plates to share and all were delicious. We started with arancini (portion is 6), french onion soup and a salad then moved on to a pizza and wine cake for dessert. Nothing that we ate was ordinary. The grilled romaine salad had amazing flavors with "shreds" of bacon. The soppresetta pizza was a bit on the spicy side with a hint of sweet. (Delicious but if you don't like spicy, try a different pizza). If you have room, try the wine cake, it's big enough to share. My sister had been raving about this place and her husband likes the bartenders who are knowledgible about high end bourbons and rye. We had Sunday brunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. We all had the lobster bisque, which was very good. I would have preferred a thicker broth, but it was very good. My wife and step-daughter enjoyed their salads, which were cold and crunchy. My wife had to bring some of hers home. Our son had a cheeseburger that he liked. I enjoyed the mushroon ravioli. The service was good. It's been too long since we have been here. Pre Covid remembered the shrimp and polenta, it's as good as I can remember but better. I could have licked that plate but I was dressed too nice. Mussels : some of the best I have had anywhere. Red pepper flakes make it a little spicy, in a decadent milk, butter type sauce. A few pieces of toast to dip in the sauce. Those scallops were perfectly cooked, minimal firm on exterior and soft and melty on the inside. They came with plenty of pasta, I believe this is a Saturday possible special, so you have to check menu daily. We ordered too much to eat but I don't care because we wanted to try it all. Go but be prepared to wait, this place is hoppin. Do what we did, get a few old fashions and meet some fun people like our friend the orthodontist who we couldn't get enough of. I may have caught them on an off day but the food was quite mediocre and off balanced this time. Quality- the white fish pasta had good flavor but non of it was on the fish. I was very bland flaky fish that was grilled or pan fried. The lamb chops were nauseating to eat. It was overpowered by the cheese they used on top of each lamb chop. It was honestly disgusting how much cheese was on top of each piece of lamb. The pot roast was ok but the meat was not moist at all. It was too dry and I had to drink water with it to get it down. The good news though is that the gnocchi steak dish is still excellent. The calamari was undercooked and not crispy. Quantity- not worth it for the money. You don't get much bang for your buck. Atmosphere- it can be quite packed and loud. Service- our waiter did not like us. He was slow to check in on us. read more
