She recommended her favorites and was personable but not pushy. We ordered a few drinks and they were all delicious, and generously poured. No complaints there! We also ordered crab puffs and I almost always get crab puffs when they are available, these were FILLED and so light and crispy! Everything you want in a crab puff. I got beef and scallops and miso soup, and my bf got Hunan beef with lo mein. The beef was very tender and the scallops were delicious. My dish was probably 60% vegetables and the rest was meat. It was definitely mostly vegetables. I finished all the meat, but it's really only enough for 1 person. I think they could've added more meat. I did not get any rice or lo mein since I'm on a low carb diet. I asked if I could sub the rice for another side dish, and they said no, which was disappointing. The miso soup was fine. It's the instant miso soup that you can buy at Asian grocery stores (typical of every sushi restaurant). My bf said the food was ok. He ate some of the Hunan beef (just the beef part) and some lo mein. The Hunan beef had a lot of baby corn, which I do not like. He did not eat much besides the noodles. Service was good. Hands down the best Asian fusion restaurant in Tyler. While options in town are limited, this place sets itself apart with stylish décor, an outstanding staff, and genuinely impressive service. Pro tip: ask for all three of their sauces. The mild chili and medium have great flavor, but the spicy one (something like "devil sauce") is next-level...shockingly hot and absolutely delicious. Food highlights: the General Tao chicken is fresh, all white meat, the Mongolian beef is an absolute must-order, and the crab rangoons are packed full of flavor. The Mongolian chicken and Fire Roll are also solid, but if you only pick one dish...go with the beef! Amazing! Enjoy! Oh...forgot about the Miso plus Hot & Sour soup! This was a surprisingly nice experience. From the outside, there is no hint of the very pleasing bistro vibe inside. The server was superb, and the orange chicken was excellent. The salt and pepper shrimp was lacking some kind of very light sauce. The accompanying julienned peppers and onions were undercooked (nearly raw). I tried some of their dynamite sauce on the side to make things a little less dry, and it was much better. There is much more to try here, and a return is assured. read more

I heard Fire Fish was doing their grand opening today and I've been dying to try it, seeing as I missed the soft opening. I was politely greeted as soon as I walked in. I was honestly shocked at how beautiful the place looked inside. You can tell someone really took the time to do it right. I was shown to my table, where I was approached by my waiter. I believe his name was Justice. He went into great detail explaining the menu and even made some great suggestions. He also had a great personality, which contributed to an overall amazing experience. They have a rather large menu, so it definitely took me a while to decide. I ended up getting the sliced yellowtail and some miso soup to start off with. The miso soup itself was unlike what I've had from other places. It had a very unique, yet delicious flavor to it. The yellowtail was phenomenal. It was my first time ever trying it and I promise I'll be ordering it alot more. It basically melted in my mouth. The ponzu sauce added such nice flavor to it. I knew I wanted to try quite a few things and that's exactly what I did haha. I ordered the crispy shrimp with fried rice, mongolian beef, Texas roll, red lobster crunch roll, and the golden philly roll. Although each individual dish was nothing short of perfection, my favorite thing was the mongolian beef. It came out on a hot skillet with a spicy (not really spicy) sweet garlic soy sauce, mushrooms, and green and yellow onions. Not only was the beef incredibly tender, but it was packed full of flavor. I can't recommend it enough. I tried the shrimp next. It was lightly breaded and coated in a sweet garlic soy sauce. It was served with some broccoli as well. Another dish I could go on and on about. I feel like I must mention how good the fried rice was. Easily some of the best in Tyler. I finally made my way over to the massive boat, which happened to be carrying all 3 of the rolls I ordered. Each roll was incredible and stood out from the next. The Texas roll had some perfectly cooked filet mignon on top of it. Combined with the crab, cream cheese, and avocado made for an excellent bite. The red lobster crunch roll was in a league of its own. Just something about tempura lobster in a sushi roll seams like a match made in heaven. I can't forget the golden philly roll. The smoked salmon in there really set that roll off. As if all that wasn't enough, then came dessert. The name seemed so fitting for what they brought out to me. It's called Cloud 9. Seeing as that's the sensation you'll feel while eating it. It's vanilla ice cream on top of homemade flan, drizzled with a strawberry sauce and a decent serving of whipped cream. Can't forget the fresh blackberries and blueberries. There's also strawberry wafer sticks and oats on top. The owners of Fire Fish also own Go Fish Modern Japanese Kitchen, so you know it's gonna be good!!! The sushi didn't disappoint.. We always keep it pretty simple with some classic rolls and a few of pieces of sashimi to go. I was disappointed this evening because I found out the hard way that you're supposed to show your member card before you get the bill. As a former bartender I am sure there was a way she could've canceled the order out and input it again so we could receive our points but I was simply told no and that she was sorry. Loved our dinner and will absolutely be returning. Wife said it was the best crunch roll she's ever had, and got a new roll called the 'Big Back Balloue' (spelling ?) that was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable about the menu, his recommendations were terrific and his service was perfect! I got the jalapeño poppers, and spicy tuna crispy rice. Both were appetizers and were so good. The poppers were delicious, and crispy rice was unique and very tasty with the fresh tuna. My husband got the Tuna tower, which had crab, tuna, rice and avocados. This was amazing! A must try. Oh! We have been here twice since the opening and it has been amazing each time. The decorations are beautiful and it's not loud inside. The food tasted amazing and the service was great each time! The salmon on the Salmon Banzai sushi melted in our mouth like butter and General Tso chicken had an amazing flavor as well as the Hot Saute chicken with vegetables. Our favorite was also the new dessert they had on the menu called Taiyaki I believe that had vanilla ice cream with some fruit and a fish shaped pastry with red bean filling inside. And if you have kids they do have plenty of item on the kids menu for them to choose from. Our child loved the udon noodles! We will definitely be coming here more often! read more

I was once told that good seafood could not be found away from the beach. Having grown up on the beach, I can confidentially tell you that proximity is rarely the defining factor on what makes seafood delicious or palatable. Fire Fish is the hot new restaurant on the block, and while I often ask "what's in a name" because I prefer my fish to be cold, I suppose it's also worth noting that in the Gen Z vernacular, this food could indeed be considered "fire." For everyone else, that means it's good. And while I don't consider myself a picky eater, I do tend to be a sushi aficionado. I was pleased, then, to find a chef special available at a very fair price on the menu. Part of the joy with something like sushi is allowing the chefs to work their magic, to splice together flavors you might not expect on a clean, freshly chopped up platter, and to savor this rich experience between cleansers like sake and ginger. If all that sounds a little hoity toity, then I digress. The food is good. Two people got in and out, had a great dinner for under $40 and in this economy, that's a home run. I had the sushi and an order of hot sake. My companion tried the Hunan Beef, and after stealing a bite I can also confirm that it was a very high quality cut. Cooked to perfection - not too sweet, not too much sauce, but enough to coat while allowing the meat itself to shine. The rice? I mean, it was rice. It's good. It's there to fill. I could pontificate on the atmosphere, which is respectable, or the wait staff, who performed without issue, but all this to say that I enjoyed my time at Fire Fish, I would recommend it, and I will return to eat there again. That, to me, is the mark of a successful restaurant. And when it comes to Asian food, Tyler has got it pretty good. In a "sea" (if you'll pardon my use of the term) this crowded, with excellent locations to dine such as Ichiban, Go Fish, multiple all you can eat sushi locales, and a good few others I haven't named, paralysis of choice could become an issue. But they also told me Tyler was a small town, and that turned out to be a lie. I think there's a place here for Fire Fish, and I certainly hope to see it thrive. For a first impression, they really nailed it. So I guess you could say the place is fire. read more

I went in for my birthday, ordered a sushi roll - and got butterflies (see photo!).... Above and beyond for presentation! It's been a while since I have walked out of a place. Waited for almost 15 minutes while the bartender/manager did inventory before a waitress came behind the bar to say hello and take my order. I then ordered a mai tai, which was a concoction of vodka, peach schnapps and juice. I said it was a sex on the beach, but she insisted it was what was listed as the ingredients. Wife and I love GoFish, so we wanted to try the new place. Went to FireFish last Friday. Took one of the high round tables between the bar and the sushi bar. Had a great waitress that was very attentive. A couple of comments for the owner, first, I normally love to sit at the sushi bar, watch the chefs work, etc, however, the FireFish sushi bar was unfortunately designed like the one at the former Shogun North and sits at normal table height and there is no observing the action, second issue was the pepper corn tuna nigiri, the fish was visually and texturally dried out. So for the good news, the rest of the fish was excellent, well made, etc. we even asked to have the wasabi added to the fish while making the nigiri (old fashion style) and the chefs obliged. Very fair pricing and attentive waitstaff. Especially liked the the sushi chefs go the extra mile to add finishing touches to each piece of nigiri. Ordered a salmon skin maki and was surprised they added more than just the broiled skin. We'll be back. read more

The restaurant is expertly decorated with high quality Japanese items and took me back to when I lived in Tokyo. I would have given it a full 5 stars but I did have an issue with one of my rolls.
