Brookhurst elementary school is a public school serving from grade k-8.(LInk:http://www2.ggusd.us)…read more My review is specifically for the toddler class here and I have no experience with the other classes so far. -The preschool teachers are nice /friendly. -They provide students with an opportunity for learning involving physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development. -Parents & teachers work together to enrich child's early educational exp. -They have lots of fun activities, crafts for the kids - I have volunteered for this school few times and it's fun. This was my 1st attempt to review a Public school in USA, and since I completed my studies/higher studies overseas, so I really don't know much about the schools/curriculum here. Saying that back in my school -it was only about "studies" and no fun, academics were very tough, teachers were very strict and all we did was study and tests. After I see the schools here and how much fun they have I just feel that we missed out on the Fun part back in our school. Oh well!

I even met the teacher, who said she was excited to have my baby in her class!!! I was told not to worry by multiple staff and I kept in continuous contact as they instructed me to do. At one point a staff member told me that the wait list didn't even matter, it was who could actually enroll ASAP (infants have to be four months old). This was their actual admissions person they hired to sit in an empty classroom full of unused toys. How about give her an office and open up the classroom???? I called another time and spoke to the actual director, who tried to tell me that people had been on the wait list longer than me which was literally impossible because 1) Early in my pregnancy I called to go on a wait list. They told me they wouldn't put me on a waitlist until I was further along. 2) Called in 2nd trimester. Told I was on a wait list but told to call back when she was born 3) Child born. Called again. Confirmed on wait list and given optimism, told to call back monthly to check in 4) Child old enough to enroll. No spots now or in foreseeable future apparently. All of that optimism vanished. I was now coldly told that they had nothing available. It was a really shocking change, honestly.

They constantly having huge meetings which make it extremely hard for parents to drop off our children in the morning since all the parking in front of the school and the surrounding neighborhood are taken. This morning I had to park all the way at the beginning Temple Street, dragged my toddler for 15 minutes to get to the school and then was told we are not allowed to go through the front door and need to use the side gate and walk all around the back of the school to get to the classroom to drop my child off. It seems like serving families is not the first priority at Land anymore!!! I'm a single working mom, because of this ordeal I was written up as work for getting to work late after getting on the 405 20 minutes later than my usual schedule. Please take in consideration all the families attending Land and find a more suitable revenue for all these meetings

The office staff and principal are amazing! They never hassle me when I come to take them out early or if they are absent! I will admit there are adamantly calling when your kids don't show up for school! They are on you, as there should be a reason why they didn't attend! Mrs.Kane the principal, my hat off to you! You're doing amazing work with these young kids! I'm so grateful for you all! Being a teacher is not easy and we leave you with our kids daily! 8 hours or more your being patient and doing your job! This school employed the worst teacher for educating children and her name was Patricia Lackey. Never have I had a teacher who clearly targeted me for humiliation and would make me feel bad about myself (like when she told the class to draw a picture of her, yes her as if that wasnt narcissistic enough) and proceeded to show the entire class that my drawing was an example of what not to do. Oh and also this school made no effort to introduce me to other students do I was a loner for half the school year. I hope this school sees lower enrollment and closes.

Every once in awhile you will get a short notice announcement, but other than that they are pretty much on the ball. From the looks of the other schools around the area, Stanford is one of the better ones. I'm basing this judgment on the overall school ratings and the upkeep of the school grounds. Standford is also connected to the Standford Kids Club so morning and afternoon school care is very easy. Before and after class the staff will walk the kids over to the facility so they can wait for their parents to be picked up.
