After years of experience and having to move my children from school to school because of work-life…read morebalance, I feel with deep confidence this was one of the best elementary schools my children attended. Special Thanks: - Dr. Gary Gerstner and prior principal - Ms. Zachach (pardon the misspelling) - IEP staff - Speech therapist - Dolly Chatterton - Lilia (a name similar to Lily) - Parent/Community Advisory Committee - Parents in action Let me give you some context to compare amongst the other reviewers vs my review as a parent. When my children attended this school, I was a single parent, attending UCI as an engineering student, with a child in the IEP program, and having to manage my children's mother who was later found neglectful by CPS. All of this while working at Disney in customer service and born into poverty. Therefore, I had minimal chances to succeed as a parent, let alone the patience for all the possible mistakes I might encounter from being inexperienced. The Community: The people here are great and the kids are decently behaved. There might be a conflict between children every now and then but they do resolve it. The Parents In Action (PIA) cares about making a difference in the children's involvement with school activities. I've never attended a PTA meeting, sorry. The Staff: I don't like to generalize but they were awesome. I especially recall Dolly and Lilia (similar name to Lily). I put Dr Gary Gerstner and possibly the staff through some stuff with CPA getting involved, like the conflicts between the mother and I. In the end, I wish they knew it saved my children's life. Parent/Community Advisory Committee: The Advisory Committee is another level. I recommend attending if you're a parent looking for advance information regarding how to make the best of your interaction with the school system. For example, I asked what was the best way I can make the most out of the IEP meetings with advance resources. The person who answered my question was highly educated and very prepared. They taught me the steps on making a meaningful impact at each IEP meeting. IEP: The help in the beginning was profound. However, to make the changes necessary to improve as a parent for a child in the IEP, I had to be more involved. The specialists and teachers knew my limitations and made the best decisions available to them. The absolute best advice I received was from Ms. Zachach (pardon the misspelling), to make my child love reading and there is no limit to how much they should read.

My son was hired to do IT at one of the schools. He got no supportive training and his job…read moredescription did not include doing accounting for his department. He was entry level and therefore it should have been a department head doing accounting, or the principle. When handed a stack of invoices, he was told to do the accounting. My son had no idea how to go about doing the accounting. When he told the principle that, she said: Well maybe we should fire you. My son looked at her and said, no problem. I will resign. As far as I am concerned, he has a clear workman's comp case. If this is how the district operates with entry level employees, I have to wonder how they treat their students. My oldest son went to kindergarten at a Garden Grove School 35 years ago. We moved because the school was so bad. It seems the district hasn't changed.

He has been student of the month 3 times this year. My daughter is in the first grade and she mastered all of her sight words the first month of the school year. My kids did so well here all there. All of my friends and family have tswitch their kids from other schools over to GG. I even had friends driving from Long Beach to take theirs. This is a high quality education with a high level of care for a very affordable price.

I highly recommend this school to parents who value education and quality care for their kids. Our…read moredaughter had been going there since preschool and she just finished Kindergarten. She LOVES all of her teachers: Ms. Sam and Ms. Tina. We noticed a huge improvement during the first couple of months after transferring her here from another pre-school. She barely knew her Alphabets at the time, but after only a few months, she was able to read a few simple words. Mrs. Lee, the principal, told us when we enrolled our daughter that she would be able to read and write by the time she finishes her Pre-K and honestly I was a little skeptical then. However, she was right! By the time our daughter graduated from Kindergarten, she was able to read at a 2nd grade level and pretty much done with her 1st grade math curriculum. Besides focusing on academia, the teachers and the principal gave their students many opportunities to play, do their arts and crafts, dance and perform on stage. Their tuition even included weekly Taekwondo lessons. The school also organized additional fun activities with outside vendors such as mobile petting zoo, field trips etc. All the kids got to perform on stage twice a year (at Christmas and graduation ceremony) and we enjoyed watching all of them so much. It was incredible to see how the little ones were able to learn and do so much more than we thought . Ms. Sam is the sweetest, most energetic and effective teacher we have ever known. She is definitely loved by all of her students. We are glad that we have decided to keep her there for her Kindergarten year as I was tempted to put her in a tuition-free public school. In our opinion, it was worth it to pay for the additional year due to the invaluable lessons and experiences the school offered. Now we wish this school offered higher grade levels so we can keep sending her there. This is a Christian-based school. Even though we are not Christians, we are glad that they teach the kids to be grateful, kind, loving and be aware of God's presence. They learn to be thankful to all the blessed things they have. They learn The Pledge of Allegiance and national anthems of the U.S. which are all great things to help building a child's ethical and moral values. Garden Grove 1st Preschool and Kindergarten has really exceeded our family's expectations. We truly can't thank the teachers, Mrs. Lee and the staffs enough! We are forever grateful for their hard-work and support.
