We hired Fine Patio Design to build an extension to our patio and cover - the design and result is beyond amazing!!! We originally had a 20' x 10' covered patio and extended it to be 20' x 30' with a massive A-frame cover, cedar beams, cedar tongue and groove on the ceiling all tied into our roof beautifully...it's just stunning!! Walter and Andrew are beyond professional and go out of their way to make sure that the job is done perfectly and the client is happy. Very stressful experience from start to finish. First they told me that a city permit was not needed for a patio and electrical work being done, which was not true and I knew that. I had to provide them city documentation stating it was needed. Work crew didn't pay attention to details, crooked framing for patio cement pour (means crooked patio); the patio stamp was not uniform, and slanted; they repaired damage they did to the stone kitchen island with wrong color cement and was told the color would match after it dries; it didn't match as I knew it wouldn't, so they had to do the repair over and work crew admitted the wrong cement color was initially used. There was no oversight of the work being done, which Andrew only came out to collect payments from me. When he came out to collect final payment, he wasn't even interested in seeing the final results of the project completed by his company, he just wanted the money. read more

We had FPD help design and construct our patio in 2 phases, the first part was an outdoor kitchen fully under roof. The roof went well and had no issues. The new concrete floor was poured leaving water susceptible to ponding as it was sloped into kitchen rather than away from and down the stairs. We had a knee wall built instead of railing to protect against falling off into yard, the wall is 25' long with a support column 10' in. One could assume wall should be on same line each side of column..... NOPE - guys not paying attention. As for phase II which I was reluctant because of previous issues and inability to hit any schedule....except for when payment was scheduled.... they are all over that. Phase II Walter had a great vision and great ideas, we loved his plan. He gave great details and had pics, we were sold. Then the work didn't start..... when it finally did it went slow and guys left garbage everywhere. They poured stamped concrete floor(25x15) and it was terrible. Water pockets on it everywhere, no thought at all to shed water out to yard, what should be basic drainage know-how was not in use. The guys didn't do very well with stamping either, they left several "honeycomb" areas..... just bad work. We had them install a pergola top which ties into our roof extension and looks beautiful. Walter has good eye for designing. But..... the beam they used to hold pergola opposite the house is not strong enough and is already sagging, almost an inch. Been months waiting for beam to be replaced and have heard nothing. I was also promised a landscape design when finished to show plantings and more to really bring it all together. The design must be coming with new beam!!! Despite making even bigger mess 2nd time around and not completing anywhere close to original schedule, even after showing Walter all the issues he had no problem pushing for last payment..... -Design and concepts are great - -Quality and schedule are not good -Owing the issues and bad work doesn't happen read more

When I first saw some of the reviews I was a little concerned, But so far we have nothing to complain about. We have been able to communicate effectively with the owner and feel like our future project (concrete patio) is off to a good start. I will try to continue with updates..but so far so good. May 2013: We have contracted with Walter of Fine Patio Design for a fairly large project that will include stamped concrete patio, pergola, outdoor kitchen, and covered patio with conversion of an upstairs window to double French doors. Walter came to our home several times to discuss the project details and show us a 3D model of the project, which provided a good visual of what the end result will look like. Our project will begin very promptly as promised. We are looking forward to enjoying the outdoors in our own backyard, as well as having some shade before the heat of the summer. I will continue to provide updates on our project. June: Some of the sub-contractors were great, such as the older gentleman that took care of the stamped concrete patio and the older gentleman that handled the stucco work and the gentleman that handled the island kitchen installation; however, the crew that handled all else were your typical C players (Mota was the name of that company) whose quality of work was just not up to par. (Suggestion: ask them for their contact info in case you need any touch-ups in the future). The project was completed a few weeks later than promised; however, most of the delay was due to the weather. No problem there. July: The wrought iron enclosing the upstairs balcony has a nice overall look: however, it was a pain dealing with the leader of the subcontracting company who took shortcuts every chance he could. He wasn't going to sand the rust off and simply apply paint and without any base. It's a good thing my husband was home to catch that and point that out. We asked him how many paint coats he was going to use and he said 1 and that if we wanted more, we could arrange for that for a cost. When I asked Walter, he said 2 paint coats and then I told him what his guy was attempting to do. Walter said he'd take care of that issue. The guy was obviously upset about having to start over and still did a sloppy job. We noticed he used a paint brush only and there are rust areas that are coming through and one of the end caps was not welded on correctly and has popped off. Upsetting! There were other minor details that were not satisfactory: e.g. door hinges are gold when we had requested that all hardware match our existing hardware - still waiting on that to be corrected, the guy that came to complete the sheet rock and paint around the French doors was going to close the area without placing any insulation. My husband caught that too and had to say something and then reluctantly went to Lowes to purchase insulation but came back with a spray can that wasn't enough insulation. My husband went into the attic to get some insulation to give to the guy to use - ridiculous. We know that no project goes without minor issues and we would have had more issues had we not been there around the clock to watch what was going on and question them. 2014: Another company just shook their head at the poor job of the balcony railing and we were quoted $800 to repair it. 2016: Be sure to inquire about the actual material used for all of your projects to have a better idea of durability. Yes, all of their work initially looks beautiful but it doesn't all last. The columns used for our pergola are rusted from not being properly sealed and will now have to be removed and redone. read more

We contracted this company for a stamped concrete patio, wood burning fire pit and stone bench. We were extremely pleased with the patio work and crew. Everything went smoothly with that part of the process. When it came to the fire pit and stone bench the crew was less pleasant and did not seem to understand what we wanted with the fire pit. They were not as easy to talk to and semed to try to rush through the work. The second crew even went as far as to urinate on our side of the fence instead of asking to use our restroom, which would have been no problem at all. We never dealt with the owners, instead we dealt with the owners son. We never saw a model or drawing of our project. When it came to the pit and bench there was very poor planning involved. Due to the position of the bench on the patio drain holes were required. We had to bring that to their attention as it had not been planned for. It came out well overall, although the fire pit has some flaws. I would definelety recommend this company for you patio needs, as for a wood burning fire pit, look elsewhere. read more
