White paint from my room in Yemen. The workers lifted my bag off the counter, painted the counter, then put my bag back on the wet paint.

I love the Filson brand. I bought a tin cloth duffle 10 years ago and it just gets better with age. It saw me through working in a failing country (Yemen), a divorce, a tornado, and a three different moves. It just keeps better with age. I also love their shirts, coats, and bags.

Ladies Moorcroft jacket was a great find.

How to begin the new year ... you might be thinking?…read more By being a survivalist of course ... without the paranoia! Look all around you as you go about your day - zombies aka Karens are everywhere! I lived in Scandinavia back in the day & I had an obsession with knifes & owned a tiny collection. There's lots of trees over there & I liked to carve up wood. I was excited & a big kid all over again (come to think of it I don't think I stopped being a kid ... some might say ... LOL) walking into Gorilla Surplus! It's located on Broadway right in-between Clark & Commercial Drive. It's situated in an old dilapidated shop that looks an old house that's on its last legs! You are not coming here for fine decor or an aesthetic pleasure experience! Why'd I pop in here you ask? Well of course because of the upcoming zombie invasion ... duh!!! Are we not entering into wave #5 & variant #23 or something like that!? Karens are losing their friggin minds & this prolonged pandemic doesn't seem to want to go away! Folks it's getting scary out there ... arm yourselves! Yikes! Many will remember the popular 3 Vets store that closed down in 2017. They used to sell quite the collection of knives & other sporting goods. GS has kinda stepped in as their replacement. GS also has a massive offering of Airsoft guns for all you BB gun enthusiasts, camo & regular survival gear, bags, hats, bear spray & batons - to ward off the zombies ... you know them as Karens! The sales dude with tatts all over him was very helpful & informative. In fact he lead me into buying an item I never in a million years would have thought to buy! I can't wait to use it! I picked up 2 items but I will never tell because Karens/Zombies could be reading this & I don't want to give them a heads-up! Hee! The crazies are here amongst us - people wake up!!! Brace yourselves ... winter is here! Happy new year - 2022 here we go!

ATTN NEW FISHERPEOPLE, PLEASE READ: I'm one of those…read morefishermen that's been fishing for a couple years but still know 10% of what I need to know. It seems every year and season, the bait/lures etc change since fish learn what to avoid. I am the type of person that needs to ask someone knowledgeable (Jordan) before every fishing trip on what equipment I need. I phone Jordan and tell him where I'm going to fish or I ask him where I should go fishing that day. He then provides his knowledge on how/where and gathers the items I need (specific lures/lines/weight). I then drive over/pay/pickup my order This has made every fishing trip the best. I've recently been to Como and Lafarge lake. Jordan provided the correct spoons/hooks and power bait for different applications I actually went to Larfarge lake a second time approx week later. I didn't think I would need to phone him, but I aired on the side of caution and I did. It was good I called, he said my spoons from last week won't work since the fishes diet has changed due to the insects in the lake changing. He suggested to use salmon eggs or pink spoon which I did. I caught plenty of fish and did noticed the other fisherpeople catching expect for ones using the previous weeks spoons. My next spot will be coal harbour, he recommended steel leader line since I am aiming for catching dogfish. Jordan providing some techniques on catch/release If anyone is interested in learning to fish, it's a great activity solo or with family/friends. I won't rely on YouTube or Mr.Google. The large hardware stores are zero help and asking random didn't help me. Just phone Jordan, ask where the fishing is (presently it's at the lakes and yes there are lakes in Vancouver) most fishing rods that are beginner perfect sell for $40-$90 and the bait/lures per location are approx $5-$20. Their prices are cheaper than crappy tire I think with an initial investment you will be all set for fishing and as you build your equipment and knowledge, it will be a great sport to learn I would like to thank the Pacific Angler team, though I have only been dealing with Jordan myself.

I can't remember how many times I've gone to Berry's to load up on supplies for my fishing excursions. You can get your license, bait, tackle and miscellaneous supplies here. The guys here know exactly where the fish are biting and what bait to use. They do very brisk business especially during the fall salmon run season. Also, on Father's Day, they offer free fishing for kids. Rods, tackle and lures are all included. Just show up to Berry's to participate. You're guaranteed to catch something in their well stocked trout pond. And, they give away free hot dogs, face painting and arts and crafts. Fifteen minutes, a few hundred calories, and a quick Yelp search later, I found myself standing inside of their beautiful Gastown store. First, it's hard not to be smitten by the space itself. Wood, brick, and steel seem to be Gastown staples, and this space blends the materials beautifully. At the same time though, cascading wall plants and some strategically placed trees make the space feel cozy. Factor in the ridiculously comfortable sofa near the dressing rooms, and you just might find yourself inquiring about a sublet. As for the main event, the clothing, the styles are mostly classic (with some welcome twists), the fabrics look and feel expensive, and the cuts are on the slimmer side. You can find everything from t-shirts and chinos to formal suits and sneakers (and pretty much everything in between). And the best part - the prices are actually reasonable. I have to give much deserved kudos to the wonderful staff, who made my shopping experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their patience and assistance while I seemingly tried on everything in the store was greatly appreciated. One final tidbit, make sure to enroll in their rewards program, which gives you back 4% of your in-store purchase for next-time. If you are in their store, it is most likely that you've chexked out their website already. My review is based on the customer service I received at the Gastown location. Me being an old dude, I'm use to shopping at GAP where the staff are smiling and super friendly despite on the stupidity of my questions. In this store, I got a blank look when I asked for helped, as if like a regular dude like me don't have clothing questions. The staff was unsure on what products were in promotion which is fine, if I was in their place I wouldnt remember either. It wasn't all that bad, but I just got a negative vibe from the staff almost as if they were lifeless and annoyed. Essentially, Frank and Oak staff in this store really need to smile and greet customers as if they like being there. No attitudes despite on shitty the day is going. The atmosphere in the place felt very snotty which does not make a good shopping experience. Regardless, I will continue to shop here and continue to ask questions so beware staff I will test your patience. I like their products and their prices are fair. Good day to you all!
