The filling station is a great little joint right in Palmyra. It's not far from Hershey so it's easy for me to get there to grab a good breakfast. And oh is it good. It's a seat yourself place so you can grab a table or a counter seat. The service is fast and friendly. Coffee is hot and delish and the donuts are amazing. I've never had lunch there because the breakfast is so good but I've seen people eating the lunch/dinner and I definitely want to try it. They have daily specials too! Like I said I always get breakfast. The prices are good and the portions are huge! They have great homefries and the wheat toast is actual whole grain toast not just wheat. Very nice Diner. I was there with the family on a Saturday afternoon. They only stay open until 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The food was nice. They have burgers hot and cold sandwiches wraps pancakes waffles and eggs and some more things. They also have a small bakery near the cash register that they sell Donuts homemade. The prices were very reasonable overall. You can have breakfast up till 2 p.m. they and they also serve lunch on Saturday that starts at 11 a.m. The portions were decent and the food was good. Seems that the Parking lot is bigger that the actual diner inside. Depending what time you go chances are u wait inside shoved against wall or windows waiting to be seated. Had breakfast at the counter and felt like i was eating out of the plate from the person next to me. That cramped! Our particular waitress was so so ok and really didn't care much about her people as another waitress came up to check if refills were needed and to asked if all was ok. Seeing our waitress taking her prescription meds at the counter isn't such a great thing to watch while having breakfast. Maybe that's why she acted the way she did? I like the Filling Sation ! It is small and cramped . The tables line the walls and each table seats four really really snugly . There is a line most time waiting to be seated but the service is quick and you are not rushed to eat . The food is super simple but prepared perfectly . I have just been there for breakfast and have tried several items but so far my favorite has been the pancakes but on a stop this past Saturday someone at another table had the Strawberry waffle and that's what I will be having next stop. On this day nearly a year ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing this wonderful place of a diner in the freezing tundra of a state. A legitimate hidden place in the heart of Palmyra, Pennsylvania situates the Filling Station. A 30 year old family operated diner located on what was known to locals as Main Streets "Gasoline Alley". The diner was also one of the gas stations in this alley before its time, at least from what I heard. I wanted to dine at a place where the locals ate, with the style of cooking I couldn't have in Hawaii or anywhere else. This was one of those places that left a lasting impression not only on my palette but a taste I dream to enjoy again. Upon walking in, white walls filled with simple monochromatic photographs occupying the walls with their very own history of what the locale use to look prior to all the changes. A few red superannuated booths located the hallways with bar style seating mid center. I felt like I was in a Rocky movie despite the movie taking place in Philadelphia, but I felt I was close enough. The retro 50's metal bar stools makes dining for the singles uncomplicated and quick. I heard the bakery is a happening place especially at 5am when the selections are ample, the breads are made fresh and the donuts are plump. I believe them since a friend and I shared a creamed filled donut with chocolate on top and it was the most divine fluffy goodness I've had in a while. I requested for a cup of hot cocoa with cream on top. The hot cocoa was purely delightful, thickly made with thick textured sweet cream and every single sip was worth the sinful calories. While the menu is decorated with a plethora of breakfast items (eggs, omelets, pancakes, waffles, toast), sandwiches, burgers, wraps, salads, and some signature lunch/dinner specials and countless selections of sides, my eyes truly fell for the Cream Chipped Beef over home fries. Alexander stated I chose the REAL Pennsylvania breakfast. My stomach continues to growl angrily demanding for this until this very day. Talk about a great meal during a cold wintery morning. Chipped sliced beef over home fries slathered atop some mouthwatering thick cream was the perfect way to start the day and to warm up the tummy. The Chipped Beef comes with several options of Chipped beef over Toast (for $4.25), or home fries (for $5.15), or waffles ($5.95), or both toast and home fries (for $6.15 you can't go wrong). We must have returned a couple times with different people and I chose their Chipped Beef. The customer service is outstanding and the diner is always engaged in a wave of customers throughout the day since they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Filling Station has two entrances, one facing W. Main St. and the back part on South Ave. Just like any diner, Filling Station can get real busy and waiting might be necessary. This is a great breakfast stop! Prices are reasonable and the food and service are always well done. It is a very small restaurant so you may have to wait but they tend to turn the tables quickly. Although my snap peas were fresh, the apple sauce tasted like it was straight out of a jar with cinnamon sprinkled heavily on top, rolls were Royal Hawaiian (I could see the package), roast beef over cooked earlier in the day. What a great find! This was my first visit to the Filling Station and I was blown away. The restaurant was very busy, so the stage was set for a possible hiccup. A Saturday morning, standing-room crowd is where you would normally see cracks in your dining experience, if there are any. Filling Station passed with flying colors. I had the best service I experienced in a restaurant in over a year. This friendly crew was at the peak of their game. From making sure I had a menu to frequent top-ups on coffee, the staff did an exceptional job. No wonder it was so full. My sausage gravy & biscuit with eggs was hot and delicious. My meal arrived quickly despite a kitchen that had to be slammed with orders. Their menu showed a number of pancake varieties that I would like to try upon my return.
