He's the type that will recommend to you how to properly style and cut your hair depending on your hair type but will also work with you to get the look you really want. I came across this service by accident on Yelp while searching for a good barber. (There aren't many in my area in Columbia Heights) I was intrigued by the idea of a barber who makes house calls and decided to try it out. I called and made an appointment over the phone. That's the first time I talked to Antonio, who is just a super-friendly and easygoing guy from Italy. He texted me later that week to let me know that he had some other time slots available, which was very nice of him, but we decided to stick to our original appointment. He arrived right on time and we chatted for a bit as he set up his equipment. He brings everything with him and he thought of everything! He's got all the basics, obviously, like scissors and clippers, combs, spray bottles, etc, but he also brings his own chair for you to sit in, a mat for the floor to catch all your hair and a small mirror to look at while he cuts your hair. The only thing he doesn't bring is his own lights. Luckily my apartment is pretty well-lit. But just something to keep in mind if you only have a small lamp lighting your room. One thing I'm always concerned about when going to a new barber is making sure they have experience cutting Asian hair. (I'm Asian.) Our hair tends to be thicker and stiffer especially when cut short. But Antonio put my mind at ease and told me he has a lot of Asian clients. So I let him go to work without too many other questions. He was very good about explaining what he was about to do and why he thought it would be best, and asked for my thoughts before he proceeded. In the end he did a great job, and I was really happy with my haircut! He cleaned up quickly and thoroughly, although afterward I noticed a few tiny clumps of my hair lying around that had probably gotten blown away or kicked off the mat accidentally while Antonio was working. But hey that's what happens when you get your hair cut in your living room. No complaints. Antonio also recommended a product for me to use, a leave-in conditioner, that has been working pretty great for me so far. Overall, it was a very good experience and I highly recommend Antonio! Punctuality I requested Antonio come to my apartment for a haircut in the morning before work and he was right on time (this is exceptional considering he has to drive over, park his vehicle, and lug his portable barber shop to the apartment!). Execution The haircut came out great because he listens and takes his time. He also has a great technique where after he buzzed my sides, the hair did not stick up (if you get your hair cut short enough you will understand this). He should be teaching how to cut hair. Clean-up There is no mess in your home and he cleans up his portable workshop in approximately 2 minutes. Convenience You really cannot beat an in-home haircut. I called Antonio on short notice (less than a week) for hot lather shaves for a wedding the coming weekend. He said that he was available, offered a reasonable price, and, given the number of people getting shaves, said he would waive his travel fee. He showed up, early, at the appointed time and location. He set up quickly. He was very careful to leave no mess. And his service was absolutely professional, even offering to trim up facial hair and shave up the backs of necks. When he started CallFigaro I was a little skeptical but I knew I had to try it out because I needed Antonio. Unsurprisingly this service was amazing. I was in bad need of a haircut so I contacted Antonio and we set up a time. He showed up right on time with everything: chair, mirror, bib, etc. He even lays down a nice sheet/tarp to catch all of the hair trimmings. He doesn't need a lot of space (I live in a tiny row house and we set up right next to my kitchen table). The whole process was seamless. 45 minutes later I was back sitting on my couch with a freshly cut head of hair and my apartment was as clean as when he walked in the door.
