I had two drives that had stopped functioning. I contacted Fields by email and was promptly contacted by a rep who explained the process. They sent shipping labels and followed up with several phone calls. I shipped the drives which arrived the next day. Within 24 hours they had recovered the data and called me to discuss the findings. They followed up with an email that listed all of the files on each drive. I ultimately decided not to move forward based on the price (each drive was $800 before any discount). They did offer a discount but we could not meet on a price. They agreed to ship the drives back within 3 to 4 weeks. I have not received them yet, so the jury is out on that. They were able to recover my data from an external BU HDD that had crashed. It was my personal family data and the critical data were the family photo files. They were able to recover all the data, which is good. Unfortunately, my only complaint was the cost. Seemed excessive to me, but I needed the pics. Be careful. It may be a scam. The internet is full of highly negative comments and articles bordering in my opinion on criminal allegations. Their Better Business Bureau rating is F. I sent a 2 .5" hard drive which my computer could not recognize. This is typically a controller issue and the easiest failure to recover data. He said there was a controller failure and the heads also "buckled". He said the could recover approximately 10,000 folders and 7,000 files.(he gave me a precise number I don't recall.)He said he was 100% sure this information could be recovered but the recovery would take 10 days. This made no sense since the only way they could be this sure is if they read the data so why didn't write to their server then. He became defensive and finally hung up when I asked for the disk to be sent back. My opinion: Criminal Enterprise. Most likely it was trivial electronics problem and every else was BS. This company stole my phone after offering to run a diagnostic for free. After the diagnosis they wanted 800 dollars for a 60 percent chance at recovery. I told them to just send my phone back. When the packaged arrived it was just my damaged case, when I called the customer service manager, Ruth Holt said it wasn't her company with zero proof proving that. They act normal when they r trying to get your money, but become unprofessional & r difficult to get ahold of after they r unable to recover your data!! Also recovering your equipment becomes difficult & they want u to sign a document saying u will not dispute your credit card charges for their poor service! They will also not return your computer etc without this document signed etc. & it also claims u know what files were recovered & you are satisfied with them etc. What a joke! As many other people have stated, we are very unsatisfied with the service we received from Fields Data Recovery. They quoted $900 to recover files from our 1gb USB drive. We told them the price was too high and to please return our drive. This was over three months ago and we still have not received the drive back. We have sent several emails and made multiple phone calls, but we have only gotten excuses: out of the office, went home sick, in a meeting, etc. Most recently, we were told that it was shipped to us but they do not have a tracking number for it. BEWARE! Synopsis: I accidentally sent them a working external hard drive instead of a broken one, and they quoted me $940 to "fix" it. Then after the nightmare that followed, they finally returned it to me... in multiple pieces. Details: I had a hard drive that had dropped onto the floor, and wasn't reading in my computer. I had a second identical drive as a backup, but I had lazily forgotten to back it up since the start of 2017. I currently live overseas, and was quoted $1500usd for data recovery in Hong Kong for my broken drive. I thought I would check for a better rate while I was home in the US in early April. I contacted Fields Data Recovery by phone and explained the situation. The sales person was (of course) extremely pleasant and helpful. He said that he was confident they could do the recovery for cheaper, starting as low as $400, and that they could get the replacement drive back to me within two weeks (before I returned to Hong Kong). There would be a free diagnosis, followed by a price quote, and then I would decide whether to move forward with data recovery for that price. That was fairly identical to my experience with the Hong Kong company. I sent it in same-day, and quickly received email confirmation of the drive's delivery. Soon after that, I was provide with some vague diagnostic about firmware and a price for retrieval of $940. The first thing I thought was that diagnosis description was very vague and not much like the one I had received from the Hong Kong company. Second, the price seemed a bit higher than the sales call had led me to believe, but cheaper than the Hong Kong quote, and I thought maybe that was on purpose, and I shouldn't have told them what I was quoted originally, but that's business. Then I reviewed the list of recovered files, and I immediately realized that I had sent them the wrong hard drive -- it had all of the files up through 2016 but nothing after. I quickly called my husband to test the other drive and he confirmed what I thought: instead of the broken one, I had accidentally sent in the working (backup) hard drive. This was my mistake. But in making this mistake, I realized that they were willing to charge me almost $1000 to "fix" a working hard drive. It made me wonder if they do this to other people, who might not realize they are being grossly overcharged. What followed turned into a bit of a nightmare. I immediately contacted my Account Manager, and explained that I had sent in the wrong drive, that the drive they had was in fine working order, and I needed that drive returned. I asked him to please let me know if there would be any issues returning the drive before my departure date. He replied that it would take a few weeks to get the drive into my hands. (This was different then what I was told originally). After that, he became very non-responsive, unhelpful, and dismissive. At one point, he offered to do the data recovery for $400 instead of $940. I declined, reminding him that the drive they had worked fine, so there was no need for recovery services, and I asked him to confirm that I would receive the drive in the same condition it arrived in (which is what I experienced with the Hong Kong company). It ended up being two months, a few dozen emails and more than a few headaches before the drives were finally delivered to a family member in the US. When the package was opened, the "working" hard drive I sent them on mistake was in multiple pieces. This is when I found all of the horror stories online -- not only from the US but from their "branches" in the UK, Germany, and more. I should have researched the company better, and I probably would have under usual circumstances. I was lucky, in a way, because I didn't lose any money, but now I have one broken hard drive, another possibly broken one, and a decade's worth of precious data, memories, photos and work possibly lost forever. ZERO STARS! After sending a 1.5TB drive in for evaluation, I looked at the list of files on a web page link. I called and asked if I could search for all files after a certain date (to see if any files were modified or created that were not on our backups) before making the decision to go ahead with the much more expensive cost than originally estimated. The sales person had to check with technical and the answer finally came back: no, not possible. I spent a few days going through files one at a time and comparing with two backup systems and the sales guy called multiple times per day asking for my decision. I told them this was going to take a very long time on a drive this size and I could not spend all day doing this every day, and again asked if there was *any way* to get a sorted list by date or even a machine-readable list that I could sort myself. Answer NO. Fast forward through weeks of phone spamming, few messages left, *even after I had my assistant give them the go ahead* due to the cost in my time. During several weeks spent out of town on business, they got very pushy demanding my time. Finally they left a voice message that "you had plenty of time" " we will delete our recovery data" "today or tomorrow" (or else). They had been informed of my absence from the office, they had been informed of my being out of town, they had been informed of the need for sorted data to make my work quick instead of painfully slow, and they have been given the go head... why all the fuss and waste of my time? Finally, after some email communication with both the sales person and the branch manager (Todd Taylor) where he tries to excuse the handling of this and where I respond to each of his points and even *thank him for taking the time* to respond to my concerns, Todd Taylor's final response to me (as head of my corporation of over 35 years): (pasted from my email for accuracy, some blank lines removed) ********************************* Doug, I fail to see how you feel anyone's time has been wasted but our own. Finally, a point of clarity: Todd sent a me a count of files with dates in the range I requested... so it WAS possible after all. In addition Todd showed me where to download the file list (My bad: I had missed this on their not very good web interface), which, when I examined it, contained file dates and paths for every file... so all the time I wasted trying to go through 267,171 files BY HAND. And them asserting I had plenty of time to do this.... while I was out of town... AND, get this, *all they needed was payment info which my office staff takes care of anyway... Note that NOT ONCE was this requested, only demands for me to call them. To their favor, they appeared to be able to recover the drive- they told me the heads "had stiction", then another time they told me they found a firmware problem. Around $900 (about 50% higher than originally quoted). Then they told me the drive would be completely usable when I got it back so it was 100% recovered. (Hmm no damage? Clean room required? Head Stiction requiring clean room and more money, but the drive is 100% OK to be used after firmware fix? After researching the web, it appears this is a pattern, but do your own research- perhaps they can take care of your problem technically... but I don't do business with vendors who treat their customers this way then insult them by presuming "you had plenty of time" and saying I was wasting THEIR time when all they had to do was ask my staff for payment arrangements. And they could've told me the file list HAD the dates when I FIRST ASKED! Instead, wasting C-Level executive time using their poor web interface one file at a time. This service did a great job with my 2TB drive. All files were recovered, apparently they had to put new heads on the drive in order to recover it. They are very aggressive once they get your inquiry on their website with the return phone calls, that is my only caveat... they do get a little tiresome, but I was planning on getting them to do the job anywsy, so it was no big deal. read more

If negative stars were only possible. I want to warn everyone away from this company and just ask that you do a search for Fields Data Recovery scam...you will see plenty of horror stories and find out that they have been investigated in the U.K. (which is were they stem from), and they do not actually have facilities in the U.S.. My experience is very interesting, although I don't have near the room to explain everything that they did to solidify the notion that they are indeed a scam, but I will give you the general idea. First, instead of mailing in my damaged hard drive for recovery as most of their clients do, I went directly to their office. So I can tell you first hand, they do not actually have a facility here to do the recoveries. They did not tell me that they were just a mail hub to ship your product over seas until after I tried to go pick up by drive after declining service. They couldn't give me my drive back for weeks after checking it (and quoting me almost $2000 to fix) because it had been, "sent to the U.K." Here's the kicker.. I dropped off 2 external drives to them, one was my damaged drive (which was uncased and just the drive itself ready to be plugged into their computers for analysis), and the other was a brand new, and completely blank Western Digital external drive that was perfectly in its casing and ready to be used to put my recovered data on. Turns out, after many days and weeks of working with them, and visiting their office, they had never checked my damaged drive at all; they quoted me almost $2000 to fix a brand new external hard drive (which again, was blank). I literally bought it from Amazon 3 days before taking it to them. First, they said they must have checked in the drives wrong, then they can't explain how their techs couldn't tell the difference between a damage drive and a brand new one, then they said that the email that I got from them asking for payment for my "very complex case", must have been sent to the wrong person. How naive do they think folks are? To top it off, when I finally went to pick up my brand new drive from them, they told me they did not have the cables to plug it in for me to test it before I left the office. THIS IS A COMPANY THAT DEALS WITH HARD DRIVES..and I had the most common one on the market!! They told me when I drop off the drives not to leave the cables because they had all of those (THAT made sense). Now all of sudden, they just don't have the cable for my drive?? WHAT? They couldn't show me that it worked before I left the office.. how convenient. As the icing on the cake, while I was talking to the office manager, who was being kind and working with me to try and compare serial numbers on the drive since I had already been through the ringer with this company, the branch manager started yelling at me to just leave, and even cussed at me in front of my children who were with me on the office visit. I was being very patient and did not cause any trouble with them, or give him a reason to treat me like that (even though I had every reason by that point). It was obvious that the branch manager (who you will see has had many bad experiences posted online [Todd Taylor, branch manager Fields Data Recovery, St. Louis office]) was upset that I was able to follow up with their scam face-to-face, rather than being able to avoid phone calls and emails like he does with most other clients. When I got home.. sure enough, the device was broken (this was brand new mind you, and worked when I plugged it into my computer before I delivered it to them). When I tried to plug it in, the connectors were all loose as if they had not been put back together properly. Seriously..who are these people? AVOID AVOID AVOID...and tell everyone you can think of. The FBI needs to get involved and stop these people from doing business in the U.S. To many people are being taken for a ride, and I have not heard ANY stories about anyone getting something fixed at their "starting price" of $199. Everyone seems to have the same "complex" hard drive problem that costs $1000-$2000+. That seems strange, right!?!? I dropped my external hard drive one night. It was an older one, and I was afraid we lost all of our family pics and videos, which my wife had migrated there. I initially took it to a highly rated local computer repair shop. They couldn't help us, but recommended a company that they would ship it to for us. They did, and the company quoted us over $1500 to recover the data. Additionally, we would need to send them a new external hard drive and would need to pay shipping to have them return it to us. And they could not tell me how much data they would actually recover, so it could actually be over $1500 for nothing. I asked them to ship our damaged hard drive back (for $25 of course). I then found Fields on the internet, and gave them a call. They were certain they had the parts in house to save us money. I went ahead and sent them the hard drive. They were able to recover everything for $500 less, and put it on a new hard drive they provided, and then shipped back free. It was so much better! read more

I am beyond dissatisfied at how unprofessional Data Field Recovery was. We sent out an SD card to get a quote, and Kris quoted me $2000! We were shocked by how high the cost would be, without a guarantee that they can recover the files. And if they can't recover them, we'd still have to pay $1000 for labor. We decided not to go through with Data Field Recovery, and asked them to ship it back ASAP, they did not ship my SD card. I called them a week later to check on the status of my return shipment, and they still did not have it shipped. After asking them to expedite the shipment, with willingness to pay more, my SD card came back after another week. Total process= 3 weeks. Very unprofessional business. I took my SD card to another company called LC technology, and they quoted me an excellent and fair price! They diagnosed it same day and shipped it back to me fixed the next day. read more

This company pulls you in with low initial quotes, promises you that they have found all of the files you needed, charges you HUNDREDS of dollars and then doesn't deliver what they promised. Their customer service is terrible and they make no effort to fix their wrong doings. They return your property in broken shape so that you cannot even try to have someone else fix it. DON'T believe their trust pilot score or the reviews on their website. They delete any bad reviews that they can. I filed a complaint with BBB and they still refused to even attempt to fix the problem. Very disappointed. read more

Not a good experience. Fields website suggests a price lower than the three others I called. When I contacted Fields, I told them specifically that I had an Ipod with many mp3 files that I hoped to retrieve. They said that while they didn't deal with Ipods all that frequently, they could nevertheless do it. Their website promises an estimate within a few days. It took 2 weeks, and then they told me they could only retrieve 4% of the files - with none of the photos that I had on the Ipod. So, very few mp3's, and no jpegs. When I asked why the retrieval rate was so low, I was told it was difficult to retrieve this kind of file. This was an Ipod - which I told them upfront - and which is built to hold mp3's! I also received a rather rude phone call from the rep curtly telling me to hurry up and "let them know what I wanted to do" because they couldn't store my files on their server. I decided the cost - which in the end was double the posted price on their website - was not worth the few files they were able to restore. I posted a review about my experience (which has mysteriously disappeared from the website) and got a phone call from the rep, and he said, well, now they found they could actually retrieve about 17% of the files. AND the cost was exactly what the other recovery services quoted (again, double the price posted on the Fields website). I regret I opted for what seemed like a lower cost, because at one of the other services, I really might have gotten back the majority of my lost data. (If you read reviews for Fields on another site, you'll see that even the "satisfied" customers relate the final cost being significantly higher than initial quotes.) In the end, the higher price might have been justified IF they were able to retrieve even a majority of the files. Fields couldn't. read more

Seems like a scam to me and I'm out Cash. Foreign transaction currency charges applied also.Requested help with a clicking unresponsive hard drive. Received several phone calls right away saying it is one of the simplest things to fix and how easy it would be for them. I sent it to them and received word back that the first method didn't work and they would need to order some parts and do it another way and I would receive a new drive with my data for $800 but they needed $500 up front to get the parts. I paid the $500 and then was told it couldn't be done and they sent back the old drive and two small read heads probably worth less than $25. Credit card statement also had a $15 foreign currency charge because it turns out the transaction processed in England. read more

A year ago I had an external drive that failed. I contacted another recovery site but their charges were more than I could pay. When the drive was returned to me I reached out to Fields Data Recovery and sent them my drive. There was a period of some confusion because I thought I was working with a different tech who I had spoken to on the phone. They explained exactly what was needed to recover data and in response to my concern about the cost reduced their fee. It still is an expensive lesson--always have a backup to avoid having to use their services. Eventually I received a thumb drive with my recovered files. Unfortunately, not all files were recovered. They did not promise they would be able to restore 100% of the drive but I believe they did their best. Of the two companies I contacted, I would use Fields Data Recovery again, if needed. My only regret is that I didn't have a backup of the external drive and to get files I didn't want to lose I had to use their service. read more

Fraud. I would not give them one star, but was forced to. I searched the internet for months before I decided to go with Fields Data Recovery. The company seemed to have outstanding reviews on Google, not to mention a great website. I called and spoke with a representative named Jillian Dumont. She was very kind and helpful. I had two hard drives full of family videos that I needed repaired. After multiple conversations I was told that if I sent both in that I would receive a discounted price for recovery. I was sent a contract stating that a charge of $550 dollars was taken from my account per 1 hard drive. That was the fee, once the recovery process began. The initial diagnostics of the drive(s) was free, and if I decided not to have the recovery done the drives would be returned to me in the same condition they were sent in. That seemed like a fair deal in my opinion. I sent my drives to the location they provided in Houston Texas. I was contacted by Jillian shortly after stating that my drives had been received and that the technicians had been able to locate the files. I asked what the chances were of the files being recovered. I was told great. Although I cannot quote this, my memory states I was told 99% chance of recovery. I was told that I would be sent a list of the files that were to be recovered. I was told the process would take approximately 8 weeks. I signed the contract, and the rest is history. I was scammed! I never heard from them. I waited 8 weeks and phoned the company. I asked if my hard drives had been finished. They stated that they would be sent back to me promptly. I asked if in the meant time I could have my file list that was promised. I was then forwarded to a young man named Britan. Brittan was apparently over customer service. He stated that an email was sent to me 6 weeks prior stating that the drives were not recoverable. I never received such email. I asked him about my file list, and he stated that I didn't have the right to ask for that 8 weeks after the fact. I told him that It was agreed upon from the beginning. I had him send the email stating that my drives weren't recoverable. I asked him why I hadn't been contacted for 8 weeks when Fields Data Recovery knew my drives weren't recoverable after 2 weeks!?! I then asked for refund or a discount. Both were denied. I asked Brittan if my drives were going to be sent back to me. Brittan told me that my drives would be returned, but that they would not have the original heads in them, because the technicians replaced the heads in attempts to fix the drives. I asked if everything else would be exactly as I sent it in. Britan ho hummed and said "yes." We'll see if they get returned at all. DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO THIS COMPANY. I contacted his company for repair of a hard drive that was damaged. After sending my drive in I was quoted 1300 dollars for a repair. Being very skeptical I asked have you pulled up files and successfully opened them to see that they work. I stated my doubts and concerns plainly about working with good faith that they would be up front about the recovery. I paid the fee and when the recovered data arrived it was all non functional gibberish in files that were not able to be utilized or opened in any fashion. I called and received no conversation or response to attempt to correct the problem. They didn't send me the drive back and as of yet I have not had any progress to correct the problem of paying such a large sum and receiving data that was useless. My wife had thousands of embroidery files all of which were not recovered. I am not happy with the service or the product. Obviously it was a pipe dream to think they would produce what was discussed. Not recommended. Don't waste your valuable resources in pursuing a recovery here. read more

Once I paid a down payment of $440.00 on February 10, 2017 they stopped communicating. I contacted them on 3 different occasions and they said would get back to me. Absolutely HORRIFIC service. Please AVOID. I repeat...DO NOT USE their service. In the beginning my primary contact, Eric Keck, was pleasant. Constant contact through the entire troubleshooting effort. However, once I paid $1800 for the raid recovery, he would not respond to my emails or phone calls and I had not received my data or hard drives in over 3 weeks. After several attempts, Mr. Keck finally answered one of my calls and had the audacity to tell a paying customer (i.e., me), "Why are you hounding me. You will get the drives when you get them." Well, I finally got my hard drives back today (after 2 months) and I just wanted to share the condition and the level (lack) of respect this company has towards their customers. The image below shows the condition I received my 4 hard drives, in a beaten up previously used amazon box which by the way someone could place a hand in and take the hard drives. My husband went to this company to fix his hard drive. They promise a free quote. I was told if he didn't like the quote they would package his hard drive and return it. After receiving a quote of 1200 he informed the manager Micheal that he could not afford that quote. Micheal tried to lower the prices but they were all out of his price range. When Micheal realized that he was not going to purchase their service he began to yell at my husband on the phone and abruptly hang the phone on him. He called again to let him know that his behavior was unprofessional and that he lacked customer service. Micheal told my husband that he can speak to him the way he likes because he is the supervisor and no one in the company will acknowledge the way he was speaking. I asked to speak with his supervisor and he refused to transfer me. After calling back 10 times I was able to speak with Sean another supervisor who promise to get my device to me a soon as possible. I sent in a hard drive-received by the on 12/30/2015. They billed my credit card. I have not received the data promised, They now refuse to return phone calls that they promise to make. You cannot get a refund-or the data promised. RUN_RUN_RUN- from this fraudulent company. They take your money-and do not deliver either the service promised-or return your money. read more

I was told the "no recovery, no fee" did not apply to me. I was asked to pay $400 up front and it was non-refundable with no guarantee the data would be recovered. I would stay away from these guys. read more

They originally quoted me a price that was much lower than anyone else. Based on the symptoms I described, they told me they were 80% they could recover the data from my hard drive. 2 weeks passed and they told me I needed to pay a nonrefundable fee of $400 so they could order new parts for my hard drive. 3 weeks passed and they told me they couldn't recover my data - they gave me a BS reason why they couldn't recover the data but the story sounded fabricated. this company is a fraud. my laptop was stolen from my business and i hired this company to track down the camera footage. they sent me files that couldn't be viewed. they are a fraud. they lied during the credit card dispute and stated i saw the footage, which i didn't. i even repeatedly tried to reach them and get assistance. they basically said as long as they send you data it doesn't matter what data they sent. so after paying $840 to get stolen laptop footage i was robbed a second time by fields data. they are in the uk. do not do business with the uk, jetblue card by barclays bank or mastercard because they do not hold their merchants to any standard. barclays bank said they wrote me a letter and i didn't respond in 15 days. maybe because i didn't get the letter until a month later. do not use this company. and i am going to write a review on barclays bank too after i close my account. they have the worse customer service. save your time and leave mastercard alone. stick with american express. they never leave their clients in a lurch read more

I sent my drive in to be reviewed. Upon receipt, the rep said the drive was corrupt and they had to go through extra steps to get the data. Upon pressure from the rep and discussion about his review of the condition of the hard drive, decided to move forward with getting some data. I asked to get the drive back. He said it was corrupt, but could send it back. I received it about 25 days later. Brought the computer in to get a new hard drive installed and the computer tech said the drive I sent in to Fields, was not corrupt and all the data pulled up right away with no issue. He said the issue why I was having problems was because of a bad internal cable. I contacted Fields to discuss the issue and they basically wanted nothing to do with working with me. In essence, for being data recovery experts and conveying that a drive was corrupt and damaged when it was not, basically scaring a client into using their services, when the services were not really needed, is a bad business practice. I would be very careful if you use this company. read more
