Let me start by saying we had a good time here, but we put in some pretty extensive research before coming. This is not a place for family's to come stay on a whim. We keep to ourselves and aren't (usually) crazy partiers, so we decided to come after the season died down on a tuesday/wednesday. We asked for a more secluded site and got put on the most crowded beach. We found that a little strange, but ended up finding a nice somewhat secluded spot for the group of us to set up. The location overall is great, thats where the stars are coming from. Other than that it's mostly negatives from me. We all agreed that their bracelet policy was a bit much. Once you check in you aren't allowed to take off your bracelet until you check out. Seems like a bit of a hastle to be driving around town with neon bracelets on, to me that's just screaming "pull me over I'm a tourist!" The beach was scattered with trash and broken glass. We found a huge chunk of glass maybe half a bottle in the river that easily could have lacerated someone's foot. We also came a few days after the weekend, and at the end of the season so you would think that the beach would be at least somewhat scanned for trash, but no. We've been on the saco quite a few times and have never seen a section dirtier than this camp. They lock their gate at night around 9pm which definitely poses a safety concern. What happens if you step on glass and need stitches, or someone has some type of medical emergency during the night and you can't get out because the gate is locked? Overall it's not a place to bring kids. They have idiotic policies (bracelets, the gate) yet they don't have a simple "no glass bottles on the beach" policy. Everyone who lives anywhere near the coast knows it's not exactly kosher to bring glass bottles on a beach, and if you do everyone looks at you like you're a D-head. Put in your research, know what you're getting yourself into, don't bring kids (or glass bottles!) and you should have at least an okay time. read more

I'll start by saying this is NOT a family camping spot. Well I can only really speak for Beach 1 &2 I never made it past there. This is a spring break type of camp site full of drunk college peoples. If you're ok with loud music and friendly people coming up to your campsite to hang out with you and a GREAT time come to FiddleHead. I don't know about the other reviews but the staff was nothing but nice to us. They keep the sites very clean. Drive around in the morning and afternoon to pick up any trash, the portapotty's get cleaned and stocked three times during the day and come around sunset to see if anyone needs fire wood. The firewood is pricey though $100 for a full truck or $50 for half (which is the flatbed part of their pickup). We make the 6 hour trip from NYC to Fryeburg to float down Saco river and drink while camping on the beach for the weekend. I have been here four times and I'll definitely be back again next summer. read more

Been going to Fiddlehead around 10 years or so. A large group of us come up from Mass to visit (which is a 3+ hour drive). Fiddlehead got new management recently and the place has gone downhill significantly. The camp has always been "rustic". No easily accessible running potable water, unclean porta potties with little to no toilet paper, drunk frat boys, and of course as you are outside- mosquitos. Usually you accept that there is some standing water around so there's going to be mosquitos, can't help it but... The campsite's fogger broke and instead of fixing it or warning people (*which would be extremely difficult to do given their new check in "system", more on that later) they just let the mosquitos swarm. My entire body is covered in bites. We had tiki torches with citronella oil, mosquito netting for canopies, mosquito covers for ourselves, a fire, bug spray etc,. None of it did a lick of help. We had so much trouble getting in contact with the site that some of us were concerned we wouldn't be able to get in. Because their reservation and check in system is so bad, it also means you can wait literally over two hours in line. They were having people sign wavers because there might be human feces in the water and the ground because of the flooding. This extends the already extremely long check in time. Two of our group members were in line for over two hours and decided to just turn around and do something else (after driving almost 4 hours). At least they were spared the mosquitos. Everyone who was headed up later than the initial group were told not to come. If you have a reservation this year, I'd recommend cancelling. If you can get ahold of them. As someone who had been going to Fiddlehead for 7 years, it pains me to make this review. This campground is under new ownership as of I think 2020. The price has doubled and the amenities have remained unchanged or worsened. We used to get a call every year to see if we were coming back. Not so since 2020. Now you can't even get a person on the phone. All of their social media is silent for almost 2 years, when it used to be updated more frequently. We always stay at a more private site down the dirt road (beach 6). It's away from the nonsense and partying of beach 1&2 although sound occasionally travels from nearby beach 4. There used to be 2 portable toilets on this site, now there is only 1 and it is not cleaned regularly. It was full and dirty last year when we arrived and we had to call several times and went up to the check in area multiple times before they came to clean it. The old owners used to clean it every day. There was also no water spigot available last year (2022) and while we ended up having a staff member full our water jugs and bring them to us, they didn't seem like they wanted to help us (probably because we had so much to complain about with the toilet already). The sites are primitive enough and the drive to go get water takes 20 minutes as it is, not having potable water available to refill jugs for cooking, cleaning, and drinking is criminal. I have no idea if things have improved this year, I know they were building a camp store after tearing down the old one (which also meant no showers last year). But they increased the pricing AGAIN to the point where we opted to rent a house for our group instead. It is NOT WORTH $30-40 per person per night to use a dirty pota potty and beg for potable water. read more

I love this campground - but please, families and people who enjoy nature quietly, look elsewhere as there are hundreds of other campsites just for you. This campsite can be quite noisy and rowdy on the weekends! My friends and I have been coming here for over a decade now. The vibes have always been great - everyone who we've encountered has been fun and welcoming, if a little frat bro-ish. The river is lazy and shallow, sometimes only ankle deep. The reason I'm leaving a review this year is because this is the first year we've ever had a negative encounter with strangers at saco. We were a group of mostly women, and had a rainbow floaty. This enraged the camp next to us who sent two men to call us homophobic slurs, shout hateful misogynist rhetoric, and threaten to shoot me and my friends. After we de-escalated, I walked up to the front gate and spoke with the staff and the owner who took the situation very seriously. They treated us with the utmost respect during the entire situation, and this hateful group actually physically assaulted the owner, who put himself out there for us and I will always appreciate him for that. The staff contacted the police and the two people who were threatening us were hauled off. The owner let us know that he now does lifetime bans and offered us a new campsite. We were just camping, listening to music, drinking beers like everyone else. To attack us over a rainbow floaty of all things is just insanity to me, and evidence that these men were just hateful of women & lgbt people. I just want to express my gratitude towards the new owner & staff for taking the situation so seriously and keeping the campsite a safe place for all of us. We plan on continuing to camp here for many years to come. If you've never camped here, my advice: There are no easily accessible showers. Bathrooms are outhouses that are cleaned every day or so. Bring water shoes or sandals, we've never had any trouble with broken glass or anything but it's just a good idea to wear shoes. Bring ear plugs if you are on beach 1 or 2 and want to sleep lol. Bring good vibes, almost everyone here has been very chill and friendly in our experience! DON'T touch the wood in the water. There are sometimes leeches. read more

This campground is amazing! The owners are so nice! The campsites are nice and spread out you don't feel in top of each other! The river is amazing! You can drive right on the beach up to the river to tailgate . The owner brought us wood and the portable shower to shower! They have mobile potties to use and they are clean. Notes I wish I'd read before camping here: 1) Thank goodness that another Yelper posted a pic of the sign becaue it's dark lettering floating with a background of similarly colored dark trees - I would have driven RIGHT by it. 2) The check-in process needs improvement. When you drive in you'll likely be encountering a bit of traffic as a line of cars snakes its way from the check-in shack on the hill where ALL guests must exit the vehicle, stand in line, present legal ID, and receive a wristband which MUST be worn during the entirety of your stay. You're then given the rundown of rules and set on your way with basic directions to the general wherabouts of your reserved site (take a pic of the map on the back wall...they won't give you a map and...well see item #3); service is friendly but needs prompting to be effective. 3) There is virtually no signage indicating where you are/are going. We drove in circles trying to figure out where we were (passersby were not helpful as on this Friday evening everyone we passed was already well into the imbibing spirit). 4) From their website: "Canoe-in or drive-in primitive sites" - PRIMITIVE being the operative word here... In our Beach 2 area there were about 4 porta potties for hoards of partying campers (dear gawd, the stench will haunt my nightmares) and no hand sanitizer. There isn't a general water tap so...bring your own water (and soap...sooooo much environmently-friendly soap!). 5) From their website: "The Saco River has something of a reputation as a "party" river - especially on summer week-ends...Our week-end clients tend toward the younger, party-on-the-beach crowd" - ACCURATE. Our beach (Beach 2) overfloweth with loud music, drinking, smoking (legal and non), yard games, and sporadic shouts of "SAAACCCCOOOOOOO!" Our site was tucked away in the corner, so for the most part I was able to relax in a camping chair by our fire and people watch which was like watching a drunken Macy's day parade - seriously entertaining and only occasionally annoying (though never violent, which was a happy surprise). Party sounds echoed into the night. 6) Rules are actually enforced (yay!!). Our across-the-river neighbors on Beach 3 decided to randomly set off fireworks (from about 11pm till about 2am) and camp security came by and instructed them to stop (this worked for about an hour). The 'quiet hours' rule didn't really seem to matter, and we chatted with other campers who had just been to a legit rave in the woods (complete with underage drinking). 7) Possibly the most disappointing line item: the litter. Even in the tranquil morning light when all is quiet and the river is gently winding its way towards Conway, there were so many cans, bottles, cardboard boxes, abandoned/sacrificed/lost floats and canoes, and just general garbage floating on out to sea. Listen, I get it...you're drunk, maybe recycling isn't at the front of your mind... but once you sober up, could you just give an ounce of respect to the wilderness which we're here to enjoy (even if in a drunken stupor)? I tried to do what I could to pick up crushed cans and pingpong balls but there comes a point when you look up and realize that you're not getting very far and that spot you just cleaned has a fresh deposit from a fellow camper and it's just too soul crushing to keep going. SUMMARY: If you're prepared (for the lack of facilities, lack of water, general trashiness, and the balls-to-the-walls-spring-break-like atmosphere) you'll probably have a blast! It's not my campers cup'a'tea, but the party doesn't seem to be going anywhere (my group of friends has been going for TEN years!!), and I really did enjoy my float down the river (thanks for the canoe rental, Saco Bound!!). But buckle up for that adventure, though...yikes. read more

My experience at Fiddlehead Campgrounds will forever be referred to as "The Camping Incident of 2014" and is never to be mentioned again in my household. To start, this is NOT a family campground. This is where underage high school and college students go to get piss drunk, make poor life decisions and shoot fireworks at one another until 4am. It's filthy (urine, vomit, cigarette butts, etc.), loud, unsafe for women and completely unmanaged. Honestly, I have no idea how the State Police let this establishment fly under the radar. I had the, uh, pleasure (?) of staying at this campground recently as part of a Saco River adventure. When I heard that the person who took our reservation laughed when asked if it was ok that we would be making a little noise after dark, I felt a bit of concern growing. This was the first campsite I've ever stayed at where the owner / ranger didn't spend at least 5 minutes going over the campground rules. I assumed that the reasoning was there were no rules, and I believe I was pretty close to correct on that. People were shooting off fireworks well past midnight, and started up again at dawn. First of all, the car paths were horrible. HORRIBLE. I refuse to call them roads, because roads have some semblance of being smooth and uniform. If you don't have an SUV or pick-up, don't bother camping here unless you don't mind the sound of your car bottoming out and scraping along the floor. Secondly, the people here were, well... I can't quite put it into words. When we pulled up to our campsite, the first thing we had to do was throw a bunch of shady cats out of it. The campsite had the name of the person in our group who booked it nailed to a tree in the front of the site and it still took them at least 3 tries to put the thought together that maybe the site was reserved for our group and they'd have to go somewhere else. People were pretty loud for most of the night, but that didn't really bother me, I could sleep in a rail yard. At one point, 2 severely intoxicated girls stumbled through the darkness into our campsite. Not even bothering to introduce themselves, they asked us to light a stick on fire so they could walk somewhere, I think they said to their car, but I have trouble understanding a 40 second long slurred together word. Who in their right mind would give 2 intoxicated people a torch in the middle of the woods? We sure as hell didn't. Then they asked us for a flashlight, but no one was willing to give one up because we knew we'd never see it again, and they just stumbled back into the darkness again. My stay here was a great one, but that was 99% due to the crowd I came with and 1% due to the campground (hell, at least nothing caught on fire and I didn't get robbed). If we do this trip again, I'll find a supermarket and put my tent up in the parking lot. read more

The beach is littered with garbage and broken glass, so don;t even think of walking around barefoot. If you have to go to the bathroom there are two options: you can wait until the little convenience store is open and use the ones in there which are actually semi-clean, or you can go outside. I know there are port-o-potties, but even Joe Rogan wouldn't try to get you into one of them. It get's two stars just because I had so much fun doing the Saco river, but that literally had nothing to do with Fiddlehead Campground. The place is a total dump and an affront to Mother Nature. I have a love/hate relationship with Fiddlehead. For years, I loved going there at least once every summer. The Saco River is one of the most beautiful places to visit and camping on the beach there is easy and fun. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. In the past, Fiddlehead was awesome. The people who managed the place would come around every day and give us free firewood, plus you could buy additional firewood and ice for cheap. They were all friendly and helpful. They would also come and take your trash away from your camp. Everyday the portable bathrooms were cleaned. If Fiddlehead stayed like it was a few years ago, I'd easily give it 4 stars. Unfortunately the campgrounds are under new management and the place is going downhill fast. I saw that they have a new little store to buy ice and other supplies. This seems great, but every time I drove by they were closed (around 2pm on a Wednesday and around noon on a Thursday). The new store is also harder to reach since they re-routed the road... it's so horrible. Really rocky and insane, it used to be much easier to navigate. I hope they plan on improving that road. They also don't clean the portable bathrooms daily like they have in the past, they don't come around to give free firewood, nor do they come to pick up the trash. We were the only ones camping on the beach the first night (Wednesday), but some of our camping party was still given a hard time by the people in the check-in station about whether or not we even had a reservation. It was really weird. We also noticed how trashy the beach was when we arrived - endless cigarette butts, burned beer cans, tampons, food debris, and broken glass everywhere on the beach. I kept cleaning our campsite, but cigarette butts and pieces of plastic kept showing up under the sand. The beach has now become a human litterbox. I know for a fact that the campsite was cleaner when we left than when we got there. Over the years, Fiddlehead has gained popularity with high school and college-aged kids, so now they basically rule the place on weekends. Thursday through Sunday is now a raging frat-house party on the beach - complete with fireworks, underage drinking, obnoxious feats of masculinity and ignorance, blaring music (from multiple sites at once), constant screaming and yelling, and various other elements that complete the college party experience. Don't get me wrong, I love a good time, but this once relaxing place is now party central. I'd rather drink and hang out on the beach to relax and chill, not find myself stuck in the middle of a crazy Spring Break war zone with no way out. It's truly horrible. I heard that the police have been cracking down on underage drinking and this crazy behavior, but they really haven't. We did see one cop outside of the Fiddlehead entrance on our way out, but that was it. And while he was outside at the gate, the people kept rolling in with their cheap beer cans and party trash strewn all over the beach by noon. If you choose to visit when the younger crowd is there, expect to be up until around 5am, possibly with people coming into your campsite to puke/urinate/etc right outside your tent. I've seen one person shoot fireworks into someone else's campsite. There might be beer pong tables scattered about and definitely some beer bongs. This past trip, we had a group set up right next to us and overnight they had acquired a huge pile of firewood. The managers of Fiddlehead (I believe, not exactly sure) came over to question them the next day since they suspected that the kids had stolen the wood. They argued for a while, and when the management left, the kids admitted to stealing it. Seriously? If you are looking for a nice relaxing place to camp and enjoy the Saco River, do not go to Fiddlehead Thursday through Sunday night. I would possibly wait until Monday so a bulk of the trash is removed, assuming the people who run the place do anything to clean up after the party is over. I might visit Fiddlehead again if I can't find another campground that does a better job of enforcing their own "rules" found on their website. They don't seem to enforce anything and they treated us, the only well-behaved and respectful campers on the beach, like we weren't going to pay to stay there. I believe everyone should be able to come and have fun, but these people blatantly trash a beautiful piece of nature that we should all work to protect and they have absolutely no respect for fellow campers who might not want to be apart of the party. Update 8/16: I sent my review to the Fiddlehead email address and received a response the next day from George Cole, one of the owners. He explained how they were aware of the dirtier than usual conditions of the campsite and the truck to clean the toilets was broken, but they had it up and running soon after we left. Either way, I really appreciate his response and I do plan on going back during the week sometime. read more

I had an awesome experience there this summer. I was there with a LOT of friends for an event weekend. My moto died when I arrived and the owner Lindsey let me use her car to jump it back to life. She was super friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful spot, the water and river floating is perfect. It's a rustic place, you need to bring in your own water and don't forget the TP and baby wipes. This is a place where folks go to have a rowdy time - I'm not sure I'd go with small kids or people who want just silence and nature. read more

Ah. Fiddelhead. For my Birthday Extravaganza, I took the crew river tubing on the Saco river in New Hampshire and then camping in Maine. I loved that after river tubing we were but a 10 minute drive from the Fiddelhead campsite. It was an awesome combination that I highly recommend! The campsite is oriented towards a younger crowd. I'm tempted to say that the neighbors were a little loud but we didn't mind, but the reality is that there was an all night raging party going on next door complete with fireworks. We didn't mind. This place is great depending on what kind of camping experience you're looking for. There were portopotties and we got to park right next to where we were camping, but no running water. It seems to be an "anything goes" place. I liked how you could just put trash bags out front and they make pickups every morning. We were able to reserve a larger wooded campsite (paying per person rather than per campsite) which was a big success. I'd recommend doing that if you have 8 or more people. read more

We tried all weekend to somehow incorporate "Fiddlehead" into our vocabulary, unsuccessfully. Who named this camp? It's as arbitrary as "Celloneck" or "Tubaknee." We had a pretty good time camping here. Their website states they cater to the younger weekend partier crowd, and that was no lie. We had quite rambunctious neighbors (read: all night party with fireworks), but we didn't mind so much. Fiddlehead offers both wooded and beach campsites, which are pretty close together. We reserved a large wooded campsite in advance. Unlike most campgrounds, they charge per person, not per site. The roads on the grounds are bad. Really bad. Dirt with tons of potholes, branches, and rocks. Drive slow. While I personally have a "leave no trace" policy when I go camping, I was a bit sad to see the grounds trashed with empties as we left the next morning. Nonetheless, the grounds seemed well-staffed, the employees were very friendly, and someone in little vehicle came by frequently to pick up our neatly packaged bags of trash. The portapotties were clean when we arrived, and cleaned at least one more time while we were there. They seem to have a very laissez-faire attitude, which presents both advantages and drawbacks, depending on what kind of camper you are. read more

I am by no means an expert regarding camping so take this review for what it is. The roads inside the grounds are atrocious. It looks like someone dropped bombs over 80% of the dirt roads and the other twenty look good by comparison only. The early morning port-o-john was something out of a f*cking Stephen King novel but it was cleaned once while we were there. No one bothered us during our stay. Halfway through our 3 day trip our group of 11 (which included 2 pregnant women & a toddler) was forced to leave the premises during a lightning storm and torrential downpours in order to accommodate another group of 5. The owner had obviously screwed up big time and double booked our site. We were there on a weekday and there were maybe 2 other groups camping in the whole campground, there was plenty of other places for this other group to go, but no, WE had to move. Furthermore instead of the owner trying to diffuse the situation himself he sent the other group to confront us and tell us we had to leave. Completely unreasonable and horrible management/customer service. We will never be back. read more

Fiddlehead on a weekend, even in June, is a frat party. But as long as you don't expect a quiet wilderness retreat, it's great. The folks who run it are friendly, and take good care of it. The port-a-potties are kept clean and actually stocked with TP. They came around in the evening with firewood, and it was only $5 for a huge pile of wood, and they came around in the morning to take away our bagged trash. On the negative side, as the other reviewers noted, the roads inside the campground are terrible. Deeply rutted - felt like we were four wheeling in a family sedan. But I love that we could park the cars right by the tents (we camped in the woods, not on the beach). And if you're doing a multi-day canoe trip on the river, stopping at Fiddlehead to camp is the only way to avoid peeing in the woods - something I'm never really a fan of. read more

Three stars. Right in the middle of the road (if you can call them that). I would call them paths that cars can carefully be driven on. Carefully. But, come on. It's the woods. Roads aren't really supposed to be there in the first place. Be glad you didn't have to walk a mile and a half to the get to the site. The place had port-o-johns. Very handy. Not pretty in the morning though, however, employees came by mid-morn and sucked the crap up. The neighbors were noisy and ruckus, but so were we. At the end of the day, it's a camp site. If you want something portable-toileted, vehicle-accessible (albeit I would suggest a tall vehicle), noisy, and booze-laden place to put a tent and hang with some friends: this is the place to go. read more

When trying to use reason and logic the owner (and other campers) bullied, yelled and swore at them to leave the campsite or be forcibly removed. Do not give this horrible business a dime. read more

My most recent "experience" here will certainly be my last. This would have been my 4th year at Fiddlehead Camp. The only reason I return to this particular place is for the party atmosphere and location on the river, because let's face it- Saco is just a big party on the river, and that's alright with me. So recently I went, expecting another great weekend on the river. To my dismay, it did not start out that way. Let me just say, should you have any troubles with this place you are SOL my friends. This place has ZERO customer service. In my case, their registry did not compute that I was paying for my entire group and changed the amount to "1", making them turn the others in my group away for "not having a reservation". They said well, YOU can get in. They can't. ....really? Who would camp by themselves? I got publicly chastised for their system glitch and they refused to make it right. I do this reservation every year, I am not a noob and know how to make a reservation. For a loyal, paying customer, they should have at least given me the benefit of the doubt and offered either a refund, or come back and camp free next time (not that i would want to after this), something. No, they shove their "fine print" policy at you and shrug you off like your just another schmuck. We were laughed at (yes, she was laughing, great customer service) by the "staff" and the OWNER. We were turned away with a car full of people, told that they were at capacity, and that I could NOT get a refund for my time and trouble, so we left in disgust. They enjoyed my free money that day. I received a bad attitude and NO PLACE TO CAMP after placing a reservation here. What you get for paying an arm and a leg to stay at this campground are as follows: 1. Porto-potties which have been absolutely annihilated and scarcely cleaned, rendering them unusable 2. What could be beautiful beaches are now soiled with beer cans, glass, tampons, other toiletry items (due to the bathroom conditions), among other things discarded 3. Staff- well, there is staff, infection that is. Probably found in the infamous Porto potties. And that's all i will say about that. read more

We go to Fiddlehead EVERY YEAR. Honestly we haven't had any issues with the campground. The only complaint would be some of the people who stay there as well walk through our campsite, this happened twice but other than that we can't complain. The portapotties are cleaned every morning, trash is picked up a couple times throughout the day. Staff is always friendly. There are even hot showers up at the concession along with ice, snacks, drinks, everything you may need during camping. Each site is equipped with a firepit as well! read more

I can't sleep because of the loud music, douchebags screaming at the top of their lungs and the trumpet, yes someone brought a trumpet, blaring. Music is cranked full blast. You can't get in touch with the campground after 5pm so don't bother trying to complain. Paid for firewood and they never delivered it. The place is a huge frat party and sh*t show. Most of you are probably thinking "we'll dont stay on beach 1." I'm on beach 9 and its still a late night party. Avoid THIS CAMPGROUND AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

If this is the Fiddlehead Campground in Fryeburg, ME that the website link is to, then this place was awful when we were there in 2009. No running water whatsoever, no campsites designated by signs, only two employees for the whole place, our place got robbed at night. A complete disaster! read more

I have stayed here a few times and had pretty good experiences. If you are looking for a nice, clean and quiet camp ground, you should avoid this place like the plague. If you want a loud, crowded, drunken debauchery filled campground, then this is the place. For starters, there are apparently quiet hours from 10 pm to 7 am. That's a laugh, it's more like quiet hours are from 5 am to 7 am. (essentially the period people need to pass out and rally) This is one huge party right on the Saco River. It's a fun time if you don't have high standards. I would advise you get there early to claim your spot. Otherwise you will have to fight and prod people to move over and out of your reserved space. Given the large number of drunk juice heads, this can sometimes lead to a full blown fight. Once you set up shop, you are pretty much good to go. Just hangout, drink heavily and stare at the local population. Most people are nice and friendly and it's easy to make friends. A fun drinking game that can be played by those who are heavy hitters, or wish to enter Blackout Land early, is to drink every time someone yells Sacccoooooo or Dump em' out!!! If you last longer than an hour, you are either an alcoholic, or too drunk to realize you have alcohol poisoning. I will say this, it's kind of sad to see the complete disregard people have when it comes to dumping trash and not cleaning up after themselves. Overall this is a fun place and a good time to go up for a night, or two. If you want to feel like you're back in college (to those of us over the age of 24) then this place is perfect. I would also advise you let things slide and have a good, calm attitude. If you have an even somewhat attractive girl in your group, she will be harassed and asked to show her boobs. That's a fact. So if you are the jealous boyfriend, over protective friend or brother type, just sit back and laugh. I have seen a few fights start over this phrase being shouted at girls before. read more

This review is solely based on a conversation I had with the owner. We booked our reservation a week and a half ago for tonight and Saturday. My friends did the same thing. Upon arrival, our friends were informed that the fee was actually per person and not per tent. They also decided to go to a different campground after noticing the frat party-like qualities of the place. I called to cancel our reservation fully aware that I likely wouldn't get our money back, but I decided to give it a try since we wouldn't be using their campground. The person who I spoke with on the phone, Lindsay, was incredibly rude and insulting. After calmly questioning the fees, I was told that it's "extremely obvious" that its $40 per person and that barely anyone ever makes this mistake. She then went on to tell me that there was just no pleasing my friends who were there earlier. She said that she showed my friends multiple sites and "they wouldn't have any of them". Later on in the conversation, she told me she couldn't refund our money because they've been booked for two weeks and have been turning people away. Considering that we booked our site less than 2 weeks ago and that she showed my friends other campsites, it appears that they were not actually booked. I understand cancellation policies, however the one encounter I had with the manager was horrible. It's obvious that they don't care about the people who are spending money to use their campground. I will never use this campground or recommend it to anyone. read more

Price: $15 on weekends. What you get: the right to share a piece of the beach with rednecks, tourists and underage drinkers from Western Maine/Northern New Hampshire. The previous reviews on this place are balls-on accurate. They have a corner on the market - Saco River beachfront is mainly private and they have a monopoly. Stay here or take your chances 10 miles downriver. Many people drive here to party, they do not canoe here. So if you have a long canoe trip and are tired, please be advised you may not get to sleep until 4am. read more

I was kayaking in the Saco River with my friend (18 years old) whom sped ahead of the group. I got to my camp sight (before the Fiddlehead bridge) and he was nowhere to be found. We checked with other camping locations on the Saco and every one of them let me in to look for him, except for Fiddlehead. The manager at Fiddlehead refused to let us look because there were over 1,000 guests, which is understandable. I then asked if he could give my brother's description to his staff, which he replied "I can't do that" and proceeded to tell me that if he finds a person on the property who isn't staying there, he would call the cops. The kid was missing for 20 hours and eventually got in contact with me by using someone's cell phone. He was in Fiddlehead the entire time and partied all night long. If the manager would have helped me, we could have avoided an all night search and for the manager to allow underage drinking. read more

If you're from around here, you know what you're going for. It's a party, the closest thing to spring break that young northern New Englanders have. Keep your expectations low and pack light. You're not going to need anything but a swimsuit and a trunkful of beer. If you know what you're getting into, it's easy to have a good time. If you're expecting a quiet time on the river with your family in scenic rural Maine, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Beach areas are the least buggy. Get there early (Thurs or Fri) or make reservations. It's a favourite pasttime for many! read more

This campground is great if you are looking for a party and don't mind noise.

Never before have I been treated so poorly by a business. On their website it claims they've never turned anyone away for Beach 3. This is NOT true. They turned us away and instead of figuring out a way to fit us in one of their canoe in reservation spots with our friends, one of the owners simply told us we were criminally trespassing and took down my license plate trying to scare me. Never once did they apologize for it being booked or ask us to leave. Never coming back. read more

I too was taken back by the lack of respect for "leave no sign behind". The place was a dump. We came across it by accident. Went on a 3-day canoe trip with friends and 2 teenagers and we weren't aware that where we pulled over to camp was their property. So 2 very rude, threatening staff show up just as it's getting dark and a storm is approaching to tell us that we either pack up our stuff and the kids and move on or pay them $90. I know darn well they wait until the 11th hour to inform the unknowing that they are on Fiddle Fart Head property because others we met down the river the next day had the same thing happen. It was loud there, one girl across the river lost an eye when the drinking game went bad and she got hit in the face with a canoe...it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye! hahahaha Anyway, next time we go there we're canoeing WAY far away from that filthy, rude, overpriced area. I may not be in my 20's any more but if I were, I STILL wouldn't stay there! read more

My husband and I just got back from taking our 3 young boys to Fiddlehead and we will definitely be going back! Yes if you stay directly on the beach it is rowdy and a bunch of college kids, however with our children with us we stayed on the Point, we didn't hear any noise our campsite was HUGE and we had our own little beach. The owner George was more than accomodating. We loved Fiddlehead and will always recommend this campground! read more

My husband and I made a reservation to stay at this campground about 2 weeks ago. After checking in, we realized that the reservation was per person, not per tent. The owner said they were at capacity but would make an exception if we "behaved" and "didn't get the police called". Not being a child, I was automatically on alert and questioning what type of campground this was. Along the drive to our campsite, we passed a car full of kids with a speaker strapped to the roof of their car blasting music. Our "site" was a bad scene. About a hundred teens partying, drinking, playing beer pong in the river. According to the Fiddlehead website, camping at Fiddlehead is a way to avoid rowdy crowds- especially on summer weekends. This is an absolute joke. The owner did offer us another campsite, but at this point, we were completely uninterested in staying here. Do yourself a favor and stay at Swan Falls Campground down the road instead. read more
