We had a very disappointing experience with Brothers Pool Service before service even began…read more At the initial meeting, everything sounded great. George was very friendly and thorough, and we agreed to a flat monthly rate of $260 that included all chemicals, salt, and maintenance. However, things quickly changed after the agreement was in place. Right before the first scheduled service, he asked me to go out and purchase 12 bags of salt myself, which made no sense given that supplying materials was part of what we agreed he would handle. When I pushed back, he instead sent a $300 invoice for the salt with no details--no brand, no weight per bag, nothing to verify what was being purchased. When I asked for basic transparency, he became defensive and repeatedly interrupted me. He also tried to justify not providing any details by saying he's a "licensed contractor" and doesn't need to share that information, which frankly made no sense. Being a contractor doesn't eliminate the need for clear communication and itemization, especially when you're asking a customer to pay for materials. We ultimately decided to part ways before service even started. If this is how issues are handled upfront, it didn't give us confidence in how things would be handled long-term. I would recommend getting very clear, detailed expectations in writing before moving forward.

No Warm and Fuzzies With This Guy!…read more Stay Away! So I got a quote from Julio to install a new filter pump and to install a leaf cannister...he quoted me $250 for the pump and $25 for installation of the leaf cannister. Sadly, when he arrived, he did not adhere to the quote he gave me and this is despite me sending all the pictures of everything and quoted me $150 for the install of the leaf cannister. Then, he started part of the install of the piping and did part of it and then when he opened up the leaf cannister one side was fine and the other side he found had some plumbing tape. It worked before and I didn't see anything wrong with using that but he refused and said he doesn't do micky mouse work so he refused to fix it and he told me I had to buy a whole other cannister which is ridiculous. Then he took out the piping he did and had to start over again. Then after he installed the pool pump there were issues and this guy is all about his time and getting paid for his time. The issues got him flustered and he asked me what the hayward password was for the system. I had no idea since we bought this house with this system already installed and we were never given a password. I called Hayward and they told me it would take 2 days to reset the password to get the pump working again. That freaked me out because we have a big party the next day with people in the pool. Then he had a friend at Hayward who he called to get the password. I found out after that there is NO Password. It was the ID of the system which is on the app itself but he freaked me out all for no reason because he didn't know what he was doing. And even when I was calling Hayward to try and get the password reset without even yet being informed about how long it would take, he said he would leave because he is not gonna wait! What the heck? What kind of a person would just leave in the middle of an install??? I'm sorry but that is horrible and not the kind of person you want to help you if he bails! He also kept telling me that Hayward is CRAP. That our whole system is crap and we need to replace the whole thing..the heater, the pump and filter, etc. He criticized our whole system and setup. Not a good thing to say to someone. Like I was gonna spend $15k to replace everything! Anyway, he also said that the pool filter was the wrong size. I told him he was wrong because I called the manufacturer and they confirmed that I could have 20% more gallons in my pool and this would still work. He said they just say that to sell more pool filters. Then I told him the light in the spa was not working and all he said was I only worked on the pump and anything else you have to pay me for. I cannot even tell you how many times he kept saying if I look at this You have to pay me more. If I do that, you have to pay me more. If I turn a knob and it breaks its not on me and you need to pay me. When I told him that I wanted to make sure the heater worked after he installed the pump he was like well if its not working that is on you and you need to pay me to look into it. He had no feeling that he should make sure everything else is working after he did the pump install and reset our whole hayward system. Nobody else I ever hired is like this. They care that everything else works and they don't keep asking for money! All this guy focused on is getting paid for anything. He has no warm and fuzzies and is direct and to the point with no proper way of speaking to the customer. He is very standoffish in my opinion and should not be in the business he is in where he has to speak to customers. I will never hire this guy again. He was the worst pool person I have ever come across in the last 5 years of owning this pool. In my opinion he needs to learn how to speak nicely and properly to people and not focus every conversation on $$$$$. If he learned to take care of the customer first then discuss money and show that he actually cares, he would have repeat customers. I have no idea how he has 6 five-star ratings. He left screws below the item, he did not install the bottom plate of the pool pump as I found the plate in the box still and he did not offer to put the old pump or boxes in the trash like all of our other pool people would do. No customer service skills at all. There are many others you can hire and you will be much happier. He did stay for 4 hours to do this but it was painful for me..and probably for him too since every minute must have been painful for him and he was only getting paid the $250. He said he should have charged me for other stuff he did but he would only charge me $250 then demanded I only pay by check or cash! My recommendation is to Stay Away!!!

Yesterday, we had our pool tile bead blasted (by another pool service company). We also drained half the pool so that we could refill it with fresh water and reduce the water hardness. Rene is coming over today to put the pool back in service - vacuum, condition, add salt, rebalance, etc. It's nice to have a pool service that has our back and is willing to work with us to keep our pool in tip-top shape.

Some vendors out there play on people's ignorance to their expertise and take advantage of their clients. This was not the case with KC Pools. I had an issue with a pool heater/pump. I was able to send them a quick video clip of the display just to expedite the diagnosis. They pretty much knew from the video what the issue would be and was able to give me an approximate range on what the repair would cost. I totally appreciate that for the sake of saving time. I was told what the high side would be and what the low side would be and what to expect with each choice. When he ended up getting onsite the problem wouldn't duplicate itself, so he checked it out and pressed on. The next day there was an issue after all and he came back out repaired what need to be repaired on the low side. Bottom-line the impression that I got from KC Pools is that they are fair and honest. We had a pool heater out for a year and were scared to have it fixed because of the cost and fear of being oversold a new one for thousands of dollars. I called Kevin after reading the reviews on here. He had me text him pictures of the heater before hand so he could be prepared with the parts for our specific unit. He didn't try to sell us on anything and in fact told us, if we could fix our heater, it was worth keeping and not replacing. He quoted us $450 after explaining what we needed. Much less than the thousands we thought it would be. After seeing the heater in person, he was able to fix it for $300. (Talk about honest!!) And he also fixed our timer for a discounted price along with rehanging our switch box which was coming off the wall, just to help us out. And one final thing...he came on time - which is never heard of with people coming to fix things. Kevin is the best, you can't go wrong. I wish everyone we had to come fix things at our place was the quality of service we got with this company.
