We've been here 3 times and each time has been a great experience. It's a little "hole in the wall" place, but where else can you find a lamb shank entree for only $15??? It was "fall off the bone" tender!!! We ordered the lamb with olives and fries, chicken bastille, and baba ghanouj. My fav, the chicken bastille is a sweet and savory "chicken pie" made with chicken, chopped almonds, spices, and wrapped inside a light, crispy pastry shell that is baked and topped with powdered sugar and and cinnamon. It comes in 3 diff sizes, small, medium, and large. I ordered the small and I literally only ate half because it was so filling. The baba ghanouj we ordered was my least favorite. I LOVE eggplant, but this just had too much tahini, and didn't have enough lemon juice or acidity to balance the flavors. It comes with warm pita bread. The lamb dish hubby ordered also came with bread. I didn't try it because it looked dense, but hubby said it was perfect to soak up the sauce from his dish. I love this place because 1) I love lamb, 2) there's never a wait, and 3) I love lamb. My girlfriend usually come here whenever we crave Fettosh specifically. I get the lamb with rice and my girlfriend gets the lamb couscous. The meats are consistently super flavorful, juicy, and tender. I love the rice and the stew that comes with the lamb couscous is yummy. We also got a bastille and that was interesting. I don't know if I particularly like it (I'm not a dessert person so don't trust me), but it's sweet and flaky. read more

The cucumber yogurt was okay, but not what I was expecting since I was hoping for a creamier yogurt. This was diced cucumber in a watery yogurt with a mintier flavor. I wouldn't suggest getting sandwich and fries for delivery as it sits and could get soggy, and I'm sure it's very enjoyable fresh. Would definitely stop by to try the lamb and rice. read more

So good! Full disclosure: I can't say I've had a lot of other Moroccan food in VA, so I don't have a lot to compare Fetoosh to.... but I really enjoy their food! Fetoosh is a small, local business with a friendly owner. The lamb tagine is so flavorful and tender, and the somewhat sweet prune paired so well with the meat. The chicken cous cous sounds pretty basic but it is NOT - It comes with a savory, spiced sauce that soaks into all the veggies and makes the dish more like a hearty stew. Portions are large. The best restaurants are the ones that make you feel like you're part of the family even though you're not. Our server was very friendly and gave us a description and suggestion on what to get. The water had no ice which is the only downside of this place. The kabob is good, but the chicken bastilla and lamb with prune are phenomenal. The lamb was so soft that is was struggling to hang on the bone like Mufasa on the cliff. When I ate the lamb, it slid down my throat like a greasy kid on a metal slide during the hot summer months. Mmmmm... Yum. When I first put the bastilla in my mouth, my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. The breading was crispy, flaky, and the flavor was out of this world. Got chicken kabobs (grilled and flavorful), bastilla (looove a good veggie bastilla with its sweet flaky exterior and nutty interior), and chicken tagine (fall off the bone stewed in preserved lemons). Was so excited to find this place that I ordered again just a few days later. This time (food was ordered on a Tuesday around noon) the food that arrived tastes old and cold. The chicken kabobs are really hard and tense - texture is so off that I don't feel comfortable eating it. The rice that came with the kabobs is cold and hard. The chicken couscous - the only dish that arrived warm - had mushrooms which is odd for this dish and tasted mostly like turmeric but not much else. The sfelda bi lahmi was cold. This is a tough one to review. It started off with a few negatives. There were some dry bread crumbs on the plates that were on the table. We ordered a Moroccan tea and the server spilled a decent amount while pouring our glasses, dumping a bit on the floor. Also, the food took way longer than expected to come out, which was a bit of a surprise and there was no warning about how long it would be. Once the food did come out, it wasn't that hot. Not that it was cold, but it was surprisingly in the "warm" category. The flavors, however, were fantastic. The Chicken Bastilla was unlike anything I've had before. Sweeter than I thought it would be, but not in a bad way. It was great. Also got the Sfeha bi-Lahmi from the Lebanese menu, and it was also delicious. The atmosphere was like a take-out place, tables and chair were the most basic and decoration was non-existent. The sign says Lebanese and Moroccan food but the the little flags in the window are American and Moroccan. Sitting down, looking at the menu and ear hustling a neighboring table's conversation I was able to deduce the proprietors are Moroccan. Bet that. This was going to be a Maghrebi meal for sure. I've been to my fair share of Lebanese restaurants here and there so I was hype to try some Moroccan fare. One dish, two dish and tea. The Chicken Tagine didn't come in a tagine but that was cool with me. I enjoyed the frittes and the olives on top of the chicken. I give it two thumbs up. I also enjoyed the Chicken Bastilla. It was sweeter than I expected, though I had read the description on the menu. It really was like a cake with savory chicken in the middle. It wasn't falafel. By this time, the rain started falling and the empty restaurant starting filling up. The Moroccan Mint Tea was the perfect way to close out the evening. This may sound really silly but I'm saying it. It is a must try because store bought tea bags don't capture the rich flavor of it in a Lebanese-Moroccan restaurant in Arlington, Virginia, U.S.A. Come prepared to be patient. In fact, I asked the owner on the phone if there was anything else I should order and he said "there's nothing left" haha. Every.single.plate. was amazing (even the tea). Traditional and delicious Moroccan and Lebanese food. Food: Delicious. Not only does it taste good, but it is one of the few restaurants in the DC area that does Moroccan in food. If you want a slightly different kind of Mediterranean, this is right up your alley. The portions are enormous so bring your appetite. The chicken couscous was the big we are at our table but the kebabs and tagine also fantastic. For a special treat, the Moroccans T is also something great to try. Service: Exceptional. My friends and I actually originally tried to go to Pupatella next door, but seeing the long line, decided to opt for Fettoosh instead. Best decision ever. The minute we sat down, the super friendly and charismatic owner brought us our menus and made conversation with us. Our table ordered the Fettoosh appetizer, a Medium Chicken Bastilla, Lamb with Rice, Lamb Tagine, and the Lamb Couscous (we are big lamb lovers, obviously). Everything was delicious. Everything. My favorite was the Lamb Couscous, which was bursting with flavor. The lamb was fall off the bones tender and to make sure the couscous doesn't try out, I was given a bowl of broth. I've had Moroccan Lamb Couscous at a fancier restaurant nearby in the past and it was so bland and terrible that I was almost afraid to try the one at Fettoosh. I'm so glad I gave it a chance because it truly was probably one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Also, the portions here are very, very generous. The Bastilla was also super unique. It was sweet and salty which I'm not too fond of but it was baked to perfection. At the end, the owner brought us small cups of tea to top off the meal. This place is an institution and lamb couscous is king here. I've been coming here for over 5 years and its still just as good as the first. You get over 3 pounds of food stacked high on a plate meant to serve a family. And it's priced below $20! For the amount of food, this place could easily be charging you $25. Lamb shank is super tender and juicy, veggies are so soft that you can eat everything with a spoon. If I had a Moroccan grandma working at a restaurant, would be this place. The owner is very friendly and runs front of house by himself. Expect food to take a little longer during their rush, but well beyond worth the wait. We approached the counter and the cashier could tell we were going to have to think about it, so he kindly gave us some paper menus to make it easier on us. From there on, everything was great and I realized I had judged Fettoosh too quickly! We had the Fettoosh appetizer, lentil soup, lamb with prunes, and couscous with lamb. Everything was very tasty (and like typical Moroccan food, had a "sweet" flavor). And the meals were HUGE, particularly the couscous. You're basically bound to have leftovers (which is nice :)) And to top everything off, one of the food preparers hooked us up with some Moroccan mint tea (!) probably because it was the end of the night and they were going to have to get rid of it anyways. Friendly, straight-forward neighborhood joint with what my husband tells me is pretty good Moroccan food. With very little reference aside from a tajine I once had at a random French Bistro in Switzerland, it was simply pretty good food to me. The owner was friendly in a very laid-back way, handing us our dishes over the side of the counter where our table was situated. The mint tea was very good, with a strong, fresh minty scent, and just the right amount of sugar infused into the pot. The hummus was fairly standard, but good enough. Definitely better than Zoe's nearby, although we would have appreciated the pita at room temperature rather than cold. The merguez tajine comes with a perfectly runny egg, if you ask for it. The tajine was pretty tomato-y, and while the sausages were OK, I think I'll shoot for the kafta tajine next time. The sausage links were a bit of a hassle to break into pieces, and it seemed that meat mixed directly into the sauce would have made for a more coherent dish as well as more efficient handling. Unlike the pita that came with the hummus, the bread accompaniment to the tanjine was nice and warm. Decor is minimal, the locals were enjoying a soccer game on the TV, and I felt strangely at home dining on ethnic cuisine I had never had before. We will definitely be back to see what else Fetoosh has to offer. One thing I learned--when eating from a communal plate, always use your right hand! read more

Fettoosh is amazing! I only wish I'd visited this restaurant when I was in the Ballston area more frequently last year! The food is fresh, very reasonably priced, generously portioned, and the service is excellent. The waiter was very friendly and hospitable and the whole place just seems so warm and homey. I met my friend there for dinner earlier this week and we had a great time. I decided to order one item off the Lebanese side of the menu, as well as one item off the Moroccan side of the menu, since the restaurant serves both types of cuisine. I ordered the Fettoosh salad (Lebanese), because of course (since this place is named after it), and it came with delicious fresh pita bread added to fresh parsley, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. This was delicious and a very generous portion! I also ordered the Harira Soup (from the Moroccan side of the menu), which was a delicious rice lentil soup with chickpeas and tomato paste. Very big portion and very tasty! It was the first time I'd ever tried Moroccan food. My friend ordered the Falafel appetizer (Lebanese) and it was also a delicious and generous portion. The interior isn't fancy at all and it seems more like a hole in the wall, but the food is delicious and tastes home-made (without all the oil and grease that other take-out / casual places have in their food). Oh, and I was able to find parking right outside the restaurant at 6:30pm on a weekday, but I know I was lucky because the parking lot gets packed with guests from the neighboring pizza place, Pupatella (which I've also visited and written a separate Yelp review for). If you're walking (instead of driving), it's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Ballston mall and metro, but I wouldn't recommend walking at night (the streets right around the restaurant are dark and not amazing). read more

Decided to try this place because I love mediterranean food and it was a less than half mile walk from our hotel. Atmosphere is very casual, just a little neighborhood place with futbol (soccer) playing on the TV and several small formica tables situated close enough to each other that you're going to get to know your neighbors pretty well. Our waiter I think was very likely the owner. He won't win any awards for solicitous service, but he was by no means rude and he was consistent, quick, and accurate with our orders when the restaurant got extremely busy so I don't take anything away just because he was matter-of-fact. Being able to keep orders right and quick when your restaurant gets slammed is good enough for me. The food: freaking delicious! This is what people are coming here for and it doesn't disappoint, far from it. We ordered the hummus and grape leaves for appetizers. The hummus was creamy, flavorful with tahini, and plenty of pita slices available for dipping. The grape leaves were some of the best I have ever had, with fresh mint, lemon and spices clearly defined and giving the grape leaves a fantastic taste. For entrees we got the chicken shawarma platter and the murguez tagine (beef and lamb homemade sausage with poached egg in a spicy tomato sauce). A springy semolina bread was served on the side which I used to dip into the yummy sauce. I came here over the summer for the first time and i loved this place. I tried a few dishes here along with the tea. Their vegetarian Bastilla was absolutely amazing! Perfectly cooked, soft and sweet. Their falafel was really good as well, wouldn't say it was the best but it's up there on my list. The staff was super friendly and nice. It's a small place and a lil bit on pricey side but worth every penny! I can't wait to go back for some Bastilla! Next time i go, i want try some of their deserts, i hear there Baklava is pretty good, let's hope i can leave some room after eating that huge bastilla. read more
