Everyone was so informative and seemed to care. The one and only drawback was the waiting room....4 1/2 hours in a dehydrated state didn't help but once they got me in they again were great!!! I write this with a heavy heart because I did promise Nurse Hummer I wouldn't report her, but she…read moregave me what I know was the wrong medication and I felt like I was going to die! I have never been asked by any medical professional not to report an issue and I did respect her request while there because I was fearful she would come back to my bed and hurt me. I highly doubt there are any other Nurse Hummers in the world, let alone Garnet Hospital, but to be sure she is overweight, brunette, with large frame glasses and was constantly on the phone with whomever discussing how incompetent the physicians were.

As for the other departments, it really depends on which doctors and nurses happen to be working that day. Two months ago, my GI doctor sent me to the ER for a STAT CT scan. Even though he called ahead to let them know I was coming, I still had to wait about 3 hours to be seen. Once I was brought back, things moved quickly with a series of tests. Initially, I was placed in a large shared room with about 10 other patients, which was not going to work for me--I'm immunocompromised and very cautious about exposure. Thankfully, they were able to move me to a private room, which made a huge difference in how safe and relaxed I felt. They ran a bunch of tests, diagnosed a GI infection that had spread to my organs, they were supposed to give me IV antibiotics, but they ended up giving me them by mouth instead and monitored me for any allergic reactions before discharging me. I was very clear from the beginning that I have a complex medical history and that I know what I need. I've learned that being my own advocate is the only way to survive in today's healthcare system. The ER doctor even said, "You're really on top of things," and I reminded him, "I told you I would be." This particular visit was a somewhat positive experience--but that doesn't mean everything was ideal. The waiting room itself is honestly filthy, overcrowded, and... a bit scary.... I strongly considered waiting in my car to avoid picking up something else, but staff said I'd miss being called if I did that. It's disappointing that there aren't more accessible facilities in the area for STAT imaging like CTs or MRIs when you have a script and just need urgent outpatient care. That gap in care really needs to be addressed, but I know probably will never be.

Each and every staff member that we encountered was polite and kind, very professional and friendly. The staff were personable and helped to ease concerns or worry. From start to finish we we greeted, spoken to with respect and decency and values as a patient. Great job, Garnet!
