I was very nervous, but it didn't take long for me to feel comfortable. I was treated compassionately by the medical assistants as well as PA Rose Chasin. She was thorough in her approach and spent a lot of time getting to know me and my history - as did the assistant responsible for the initial intake. It feels good to say I have a primary care provider after all these years. We will see what the blood work reveals and then discuss a plan of action, with Northern Medical's onsite physical therapy, acupuncture and hyperbaric therapy as potential options. This doctor is not into pushing chemicals out for no good reason and will sit and even make a step-by step diet and nutrition consul for you ( something that you would have to see a nutritionist for) . She cares so much for her patients she even has a system that allows patients to obtain consul, advice, and prescription renewals without seeing . When I asked her why should would do this to the effect that it is unfair for her in terms of payment , she expressed her feelings about how payment was a non-issue when it comes to efficient patient care. This doctor works tirelessly, day and night, in trying to promote health throughout Orange County and practices everything she preaches. She also is brilliant, and a graduate of Columbia Medical School. After waiting 25 minutes in the saddest dingiest pediatric waiting room I have ever seen, we were informed that because my child's birthday was in four days, they would be unable to complete the visit. Not once in the previous month did they bother to communicate that to me. They did call me 30 minutes before his appointment and not bother to leave a message because apparently when your entire job is communication, a phone message is just too hard. I wasted 2.5 hours, pulled my child out of school for the day, and canceled meetings with my work because this office doesn't know how to handle basic scheduling or communication.

I have had a whimsical journey through Patient Advocacy to Patient Experience, ironically to find…read moreconflicting stories and the evil final boss, Maria. Michaela was the first time to respond after my third phone call. She took my concerns seriously and promised to call back. A week later, I called twice before she responded. Michaela was very sorry to hear about this experience and assured me that Dr. Karpoff was under internal investigation. We will never know the results of this but he "is being watched very closely". As well, Crystal Run is not responsible for anything and cannot help with the ER bill as it was not an Optum/Crystal Run Provider. However if we went to the Crystal Run Urgent Care, they would have maybe been able to help. But we were told by the UC to either go to the Surgeon or an ER.... And on Saturday at 8pm the Surgeon is not available.... Michaela advised she could appeal to leadership for me. After a week, I reached out to Patient Experience. Lisa from Patient Experience was friendlier and more empathetic. Lisa took time to listen and address each issue. Lisa was going to forward this to her leadership. After a week, Maria called my wife and said they were not responsible. Even though I left my number with everyone I spoke to. I called Maria to get a better understanding. Maria was snarky and matter of fact. We will not help you and you can get a lawyer if you would like. I am the highest person you can speak to and leadership finds nothing wrong with your claim. Michaela should not have advised me the way that she did, and there was never an appeal. Despite what internal Providers told you as well as the ER doctor, we did nothing wrong. And here is the best part... "You have insurance, don't you? Well, that's what this is for." And that's the way it lands. Maria the final Boss, with no one above her basically said there's no appeal, no investigation and she won't send a request to leadership for me to speak to them - they will not, but essentially- you have insurance and that what it is for. An emergency ER visit for an infection that ruptured and began to drain out that was stated to be more than a week old from a surgery two months prior that the Surgeon never actually inspected the surgical site for, left a stitch in the site and was told on two visit that it had a lump and was painful. Cool. The same insurance that could have been used and been significantly cheaper to have follow testing to confirm the issue that was mentioned for weeks prior to the emergency Surgeon visit and ER visit.

As for the other departments, it really depends on which doctors and nurses happen to be working that day. Two months ago, my GI doctor sent me to the ER for a STAT CT scan. Even though he called ahead to let them know I was coming, I still had to wait about 3 hours to be seen. Once I was brought back, things moved quickly with a series of tests. Initially, I was placed in a large shared room with about 10 other patients, which was not going to work for me--I'm immunocompromised and very cautious about exposure. Thankfully, they were able to move me to a private room, which made a huge difference in how safe and relaxed I felt. They ran a bunch of tests, diagnosed a GI infection that had spread to my organs, they were supposed to give me IV antibiotics, but they ended up giving me them by mouth instead and monitored me for any allergic reactions before discharging me. I was very clear from the beginning that I have a complex medical history and that I know what I need. I've learned that being my own advocate is the only way to survive in today's healthcare system. The ER doctor even said, "You're really on top of things," and I reminded him, "I told you I would be." This particular visit was a somewhat positive experience--but that doesn't mean everything was ideal. The waiting room itself is honestly filthy, overcrowded, and... a bit scary.... I strongly considered waiting in my car to avoid picking up something else, but staff said I'd miss being called if I did that. It's disappointing that there aren't more accessible facilities in the area for STAT imaging like CTs or MRIs when you have a script and just need urgent outpatient care. That gap in care really needs to be addressed, but I know probably will never be.

The other women looked at her in shock and I walked away then turned around and said it out loud enough for her to hear ."you are rude don't you know that?! " And her mouth drop. If I could give this a no star I so would and the dentis and staff are so rude if your late even if it's 5mins .
