The selection of various Japanese pens, mechanical pencils, brush pens, and notebooks is incredible. I also appreciate I can pretty much try out most of them to make sure I like it. I'm most pleased about their selection of fountain pens and inks. So amazing to be able to see them in person. Prices are either about the same or higher than what you'll find online, but it's well worth it to be able to be in the physical presence of all these tools and get lost in the creative possibilities while browsing through the aisles. The staff here are super friendly and helpful as well. I just wish there were more of them. This place can get crazy busy.

We once spent a long afternoon in Ginza Itoya--the eight floor modern, immaculate stationary superstore in Tokyo with rows of perfectly designed pens, playful stamps, gorgeous hand printed stickers and ephemera we didn't know we needed. Maido is much smaller, a little cluttered, but brings some of that experience with its rows of geometric folders and gorgeous mechanical pencils. I've never met a gel pen or cat stamp here I didn't love. I also like to shop both Maido locations: upstairs they have small cubby packed full with stationary and office supplies, and downstairs, a small shop with gifts and cards. If you fill a basket here with over $40 in items, which is easy to do as its pricey, they offer a parking subsidy --a thoughtful touch that hardly any other Japantown shops offer anymore, which can make a visit slightly easier to justify.

She took our custom design and used her incredible knowledge of color science and printing to actually improve it, ensuring the final product was vibrant and professional. She even went above and beyond to design custom envelope liners that perfectly matched our aesthetic. I am blown away by how fast, competent, and high-quality this team is. On an art crawl also known as a Spring stroll in SOMA past the Yerba Buena Gardens I landed on 3rd street in SF. Before walking in and walking out the KAWS exhibit at SF MOMA there is a museum store that has something for almost anybody. You will find it before entering and exiting the SF MOMA. If you are looking for low prices, this is not your shop. But if you don't mind precious prices to go with your precious finds, then you might really dig some of the artsy finds here. I would've given more stars, except that for the entire ten minutes we were browsing the shop, the young woman working there didn't so much as look at us, never mind welcome us in or offer any customer assistance...which is impressive in that we were the only customers in there with her, and she still made it a point to hardcore ignore us!! I don't know if it's her business or if she's just an employee, but I know if it were MY business, I'd at least acknowledge a customer with a hello and offer to help find something, should the need arise. The front entry and most of the store are WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE. There are a few tighter areas, but overall, it seemed okay for my chair. Other than that, it's clean and well-lit, so there's that going for it. Still, given the higher prices and lack of any customer service, I probably won't feel the need to go back here, especially since there are better, less expensive card/tchotchke shops within a block of this place.

This includes various animals, dinosaurs, references to pop media (Star Wars, Disney, Ghibli, etc.), plants, and much more. Pretty amazing if you ask me. Their shop dog is also impressively large and also really chill. Fun to see 'em wandering around and just hanging out. They seem to also have community events and classes, including free online ones. I'd definitely check out their website and social media accounts for information, but I always LOVE when businesses foster community and build towards hobbies. They also have private classes and they also do events for corpos or birthdays which is pretty neat. HUGE variety of different papers of all prints, patterns and textures, along with guide books, along with various gifts and art supplies and tools. Prices vary based on what you're getting, but seems quite affordable if you're just getting into the craft and pretty reasonable if you're finding fancier imported paper that'd be difficult finding elsewhere. Staff were friendly and ready to answer any questions that we had. If you have a crafty and artistic side, another reason to visit as well!
