Jen was friendly yet very specific & clear about Domino's needs & Fetching's adoption policies. She spent extra time making sure we would be a good fit for Domino & he for us. We could see she really cared & took her responsibility seriously...going above & beyond to prepare him & us for the transition. The adoption process itself was easy & went smoothly, even in the midst of the pandemic. Jennifer & Katie took time explain everything to us & checked in with us afterwards to see how Domino was doing. As a dog owner it really bothers me to write this. However if you're considering fostering or adopting a dog, go thru another agency with better ethics. Don't get your hopes up. My cousin fostered two dogs from here, they were traumatized, eventually we were allowed to stop by and meet them. The dogs that were shaking and scared, now we're playing with each other and family members. The agency said one of the families backed out, so my cousin put in a request to adopt. She got the run around, said she wasn't qualified because she didn't have a fence, even though they were willing to put one in. They live in a luxurious house, clean, more than enough space for the puppy and maybe 100 other dogs as well. Yet that was the excuse they gave her. I'm not sure if they are all racist, but some of them certainly are. Like Chase, Preetesh and many other reviews below, they are not the Adoption Agency they make it out to seem. read more

Six puppies were found abandoned on the side of the road Friday night in the freezing rain. It had been brought to my attention that all had no place to go. So my daughter and granddaughter each wanted one, thinking that they were helping. I was advised to complete a foster application, I had completed an adoptee app a few months back, and time is of the essence, hurry and complete ASAP. We did. This was last Friday Oct 29, 2021 and not until Tuesday 11/02 that I receive a brief email that dogs are spoken for. Worst communication/customer service ever. I have lived in this town 37 years and owned over 12 dogs. I have used the same vet since he opened in the old post office, bring dogs VSC Vet specialists in Buffalo Grove, IL, Donate money and time to various shelters, known many managers and volunteers. The ONLY reason we went to this one as they made it sound the puppies were in grave danger and then let us wait in fear that something happened only to play politics and give the pups away three days to friends and now the animals will suffer as I tell everyone I know about our experience and to stay away. Imagine dealing with these if there was a problem down the line. Offer your time, money to a charity and then they don't want it, very strange. STAY AWAY. I'll be educating my sources in the next few weeks time. AWFUL. Never would I think it necessary to complain about a non-profit. Our experience with Fetching Tails was awesome. We applied to numerous animal rescues. Fetching Tails was the most responsive and was very thorough with the application process and ultimately, the adoption. Any one that says otherwise was not a suitable candidate to adopt a dog or cat from them. They are strictly looking out for the sake of the animal and a forever home. There is no other agenda. I saw people young and old adopting dogs. People with grown kids and those with young children. The are not judgmental as stated in some reviews. The fact that some of the negative reviewers tried to label them one thing or another (fill in the blank) is absurd. You just weren't a suitable adopter. Prior to meeting a litter of puppies, our vet was contacted to confirm that we are good pet owners. They are very transparent when screening applicants as well. I was told that the dog we were interested was going to be a big dog. They wanted to know that we would be fine with that. They also made sure we were fine with the adoption fee, potential additional fees related to the neuter, and the expectation for dog training. These are all requirements for adoption. Once we met the litter we were asked to make a selection of our first and second choice. There were 7 people for 5 puppies. The home visit was the next day, to verify our home status, meet our other dog and see our fenced yard. Let's be very clear about a few things to refute some of the negative comments left by what I can only assume were disgruntled applicants: * I didn't know any of the people that run this organization, nor did I previously foster a dog from them. To state they only adopt to their "friends" is ridiculous. * Fetching Tails can't disclose every behavior a dog may have, or if the dog drooling will bother you (obviously not a dog lover, drool happens) * Fetching Tails was very professional throughout the entire process. We worked with Liz, she was great at keeping in touch and not leaving us hanging during the process. All in all, Fetching Tails is a wonderful organization with wonderful volunteers that love dogs. They only want to see a successful adoption and a happy home for the dogs. They were very thorough and I was glad to see they cared enough about their animals to check out the potential adopters, rather than just look on Google earth and hand over the pup in a drive-thru line! I attended their Fetching Gala this year for a girls night out with my friends, we are OBSESSED with dogs clearly. I was literally moved to tears on more than two occasions with the stories they were able to share, and the genuine care and concern they provide to their animals. We got our puppy a few weeks ago from Fetching Tails. The process was really smooth - we first went to an adoption event where we were able to meet 6-7 of the dogs that they have. Then we had a home visit to make sure our house was a good fit for the dog, and then we were able to take our little guy home. The whole process took only a few days. I appreciate that this rescue requires you to do training classes for puppies because we were able to learn a lot in how to better take care of him! He's been such a good dog, and is truly a member of our family now. When I had lost my 17 1/2 year old cockapoo in 2017, I began a journey of finding another dog to love. It was not an easy road, filled with misleading advertisements, offering me a "meet and greet", as long as I secured the date by sending a $500 deposit, posting animals who were in poor health conditions, and many living in shabby situations. Fetching Tails was a breath of fresh air...vital, individuals with best intentions, high energies, impacting the animal communities every day! I was fortunate to encounter my Fabio's foster mom, Vicky Liltorp, who after a disappointment with another dog, made it her crusade to find me the ideal, loving companion, and she did! We became friends, and I am devoted to their organization. Vicky is a gracious lady in every way, and she and her husband, Nils, pup, Ossi continue to welcome fosters until they transition to their forever homes. $250 OR MORE SCAM: My husband and I adopted a dog from Fetching Tails Foundation. We were told that this dog was previously adopted & returned and that he is a very energetic 1 1/2 yr old who runs around and howls like crazy. Neither of these things bothered us at all while he was in our home. However, what was not disclosed to us is that, he drools like crazy. Every time he came back inside and anytime he drank water he drooled incessantly causing my kitchen floor to become wet with much slobber. He also caused large puddles when drinking out of his bowl which I solved by putting a welcome mat under the bowl. These 2 characteristics were not disclosed to us and unfortunately are not something I can live with. After 5 days of trying to get past them I contacted the president of the foundation and told her we unfortunately need to return the dog. This news was not well received because she had already accepted 2 new dogs for foster and therefore she was EXTREMELY ANGRY with us. We drove 1 hour to meet her and return the dog and all the items they brought with him, told her how sorry we were that it did not work out and she did not want to even acknowledge us. My husband asked about the $250 check we had given her 5 days prior and her response was "We Don't Refund" as she turned and walked to her car. I said we have only had he 5 days and she repeated, "We Don't Refund", slammed her car door close and began to pull out of the parking space. Since this was the 2nd adoption/return of this dog the foundation has now made $500 off the dog and stands to make more. I have checked with 4 other Dog Rescue Organizations and they all stated that they will issue a full refund if, within 1-3 weeks, it is found that the family & dog are not a good fit. Do not be fooled! The only positive reviews are by people who foster for them aka their friends!! As a rescue of course they care about the dogs what they don't care about are the people coming to them to add a new member to their family. These are what the mean girls in high school grow up to be. Bunch of elitist snobs who think they're the only ones who know anything about dogs. I had applied for one dog that they decided wasn't a right fit. Fair enough. Then Karen from the rescue contacted me because they had gotten in a puppy and she "thought of me right away." This gave me the impression I had first dibs. I mean the puppy wasn't on the website so the only way I knew about her was because she told me and why would she do that if there were already other people applying for it? We scheduled a meet and the day of she tells me by the way there are others interested in the puppy. I had already fallen in love from the pictures she had sent me and it was kind of crushing to think I might not get her. Well guess what several days after the meet it was decided the puppy would not do well with cats. They let her meet a cat and the puppy wanted to play with it. Um duh? I have experience with dog/cat introductions but they still refused to even do a home check. I lost my young cat a month ago tragically so I was already very broken hearted. When Karen asked about what happened she got really judgmental and acted like it was my fault (my cat had gotten out the screen door one night and we found her body the next day.) And even though where I live is well within the 50 mile requirement she acted like it was the moon. The hoops "rescue" organizations like this make you jump through are why sincere people who want to adopt resort to pet stores or breeders. Honestly stick to reputable rescues like PAWS or the Humane Society instead of this place that adopts out dogs the way Anna Wintour gives out Met Gala invites. read more

This review isn't to discourage people from adopting these animals that need homes, but more so to find another foundation. Let me start this review by noting that my wife had done some volunteer work, just by helping walk the dogs, and play with them a little. After this instance, I don't believe she will be going back there or that we will try to adopt through this foundation again. We hope to find another organization close to us, that she can volunteer at and adopt through. My wife found a picture of a dog that we both liked, and sent the adoption application in that next day after his photo was uploaded. We were contacted, and told that we would make a great fit, and that they would like to set up a meet and greet. His picture was no longer on their site, which we assumed was a good sign for us. We met with the foster parent and the dog at a Petco just a few days later. We got to meet this dog, and fell more in love with him. We had told them at the meeting that we were ready to go and on board with adopting this dog. We have a house, a fenced in yard, and jobs that would allow us to be home with the dog on 5 of 7 days entirely. We were also told that he couldn't be truly adopted until he was neutered, and they were planning that for the following week. At that point we just asked what the next steps were to adopting him. We were told that he would get neutered, our references would be called, and then a house visit would happen. Well we received an email yesterday, just 2 days after we met with him, that he had found his forever home, and since my wife volunteered at the foundation, that they knew she would find another dog. That email was very crushing and disheartening. We couldn't understand why they would set up multiple meet and greets with several families. They said we weren't picked, because they had several great applicants and they just had to make a choice. Hearing that made this whole situation that much more frustrating. We are new to this, but why would a foundation make multiple people meet a dog, and want them that much more. Doesn't seem right to me, and honestly if we had kids, that would have been even more devastating for everyone. If you go through this foundation, I hope things work out better for your family. Our references weren't even contacted before they picked another family. So we lost out on a dog we truly wanted, because they just "had to make a decision" off a 5-10 minute meet and greet and our application that we were told would make a great fit for this dog. Again, just a heads up to families looking to adopt through their foundation. Be aware that you're probably not the only family meeting that dog. That being known, if you do have kids, maybe reconsider having them go with, so that they don't grow more attached. As adults, my wife and I, got more attached and crushed. My husband and I, for the first time in almost 50 years of marriage, were dog-less after our 15-year-old Huskie passed in April 2020. It took a few months, and lots of gentle but firm nudging by our grown daughters, to begin to reach out to a shelter. When we did, it was to an organization through which our daughter had successfully adopted two puppies during the pandemic. I filled out an application with them, we were immediately approved, but experienced the disappointment of applying for a dog, hearing nothing in reply until we received an email seven or more days later saying that the dog had been adopted by someone else. This happened twice. It was very discouraging. In the meantime, I was being bombarded by well-meaning friends and relatives with pictures on social media of dogs in need of a home. I was a little hesitant to pursue this route, seeing how many people were responding positively to these adorable dogs, and assuming we wouldn't stand a chance. After all, we had applied at an organization where we were pre-approved, we were asking for a dog based on picture and a short description, and still had not been successful. And the lack of communication was the worst. I checked my email constantly, checked the website to see if the dog was still available (it was), only to watch the dog's status on Day 5 switch from available to reserved, hoping against hope that it was reserved for us, only to get the news two days later that there was so much interest by so many people, sorry, try again. But our daughter was not deterred. She went online to identify good prospects for us (a social media skill which I do not possess), and sent us the info. The first picture was of our Lucy from FTF. I filled out the application that night, was mightily impressed with the amount of information that was requested -- all clearly with the aim of determining the applicants are a good fit for the dog -- and, lo and behold, received a call from the foster Gail the next day! We talked on the phone at length, Gail wanting to know about us, always making it clear that Lucy would be placed in the best home for her, that there were other folks interested, and a decision would have to be made. But the best part was that Gail stayed in touch, letting us know where she was in checking out our information, our references, even arranging for a meet and greet during the busy weekend before Christmas. It impressed me that we never had to contend with that dead silence (which I jokingly referred to as dealing with the dark web) of not hearing back from anyone in our quest to adopt. I knew it would be disappointing if we were not chosen for Lucy, but felt certain that FTF would continue to work with us, that we WOULD be successful in adopting at some point. We met Kristen, Gail, and Lucy at Petsmart on Sunday, December 27, went over all the paperwork, and took Lucy home. It has been two weeks and one day; it feels like she has been with us for much longer than that. She marched into our home like she belonged -- which she does -- and it's been an amazing love affair. She is on the younger side (8 mos); we are not on the younger side :) so we have enlisted a trainer to help with leash training, which has helped immensely. Lucy has a lotta love and interest in other dogs while on our walks, so we needed to manage that a little better. FTF requires -- and follows up on -- obedience training. Such a responsible requirement. I've never heard of it. Now that I have, I realize what a great thing that is. We've owned several dogs in our years together, and looking back, I'm sure we all would have benefited from training. Why I never thought of that, I don't know; but I'm glad FTF did. Lucy's foster, Gail, has been incredible. We have exchanged pictures and emails. Gail has taken on another foster, and she even brought him to our house yesterday so that she could see Lucy, and that the foster and Lucy could play together. It was awesome. Now Gail and I have connected on FB, and discovered that we share a mutual friend. It just feels like it was meant to be. Thank you, FTF! We have what for us has turned out to be the most perfect and loving dog ever, we've also found a friend in Gail. read more

Well, maybe Fetching Tails can't censor me here, like they did on Facebook. I adopted a dog from them about 6 weeks ago. We were approved after the fosters came for a home visit to do an evaluation. We were really excited to get this boy. Me especially....I love labs! He came off as a sweetheart, and he really is...unless he sees a small dog. We had taken him on several walks and quickly found out he was uncontrollable on the leash, to the point my husband had to bear-hug him. This was never disclosed. We were told he simply prefers bigger dogs. We also were told he was a jumper and had gotten out of other yards. Our fence is six foot, with the exception of the front side. There is a small section of the fence that is four feet. This dog found out it was easy to get out of our yard and took off on several occasions. One of our walks, he broke out of his collar and took off after other dogs in the park. One of the owners pulled a knife out in self defense because this dog was acting so aggressive! We had contacted our dog trainer and were prepared to take him for training. Covid prevented us from seeing her. She suggested we not walk him until she could evaluate him. So we kept him in the yard.. always supervised...and he still quickly got out and took off! Our fear was he would hurt another dog, or someone...even if he knocked someone over we were afraid of the liability. We were left with chaining him in the yard when he was out. With all these facts, we didn't think it was in our best interest to keep him. Fetching Tails took him back but clearly pointed fingers at us. When we met the dog, they wanted us to go to Home Depot....not PetSmart next door, who they were affiliated with. My guess is we were less likely to see him interact with another dog at Home Depot. We would have seen how out of control he would get. So, they posted on Facebook, and I responded because I thought it was unfair that they say they are completely transparent. They absolutely are not. Which is why, I'm sure, this poor dog has been in several homes and returned to them. Leaving out important details of behavior is shady, and does not fall under transparency. My comment was removed quickly, and they made it so I can no longer make comments on any of their posts. I feel bad for this dog, who does have a good disposition. He's just a bit free-spirited. I took screenshots before my posts were removed. I have also been in contact with a friend who used to foster for them, and left because of their shady practices. I'm glad for the dogs that they do have success stories. Ours was not. And I was really excited to take an older dog in my home. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not sure I'll be able to take in another dog in this manner, based on what we dealt with and how we were treated after he was returned. read more

Understand Covid had a huge impact with the availability of smaller dogs but not getting responses was bad. Until I reached out to Fetching Tails. Michelle responded very quickly about a specific dog we were interested in, and I expressed the frustration we were having. She then asked what exactly we were looking for and personally took charge of looking. She contacted a foster, Kristina and roughly within a little over a week we have our dog. Everything about the Organization, the people working/involved was tremendous. We got a follow up regarding shots and got them scheduled and done in a day. Everyone we worked with was kind, overly helpful and clearly loved helping match dogs with the right family. The foster family caring for our puppy before adoption were true angels, and we know the reason our puppy is so sweet and responsive is because they gave him the best start to life. FT is very thorough in their adoption process, and this is a GOOD thing to make sure the pets are matched safely, and with the right owners. The adoption process was clear and smooth, and we are shocked by the support post adoption of scheduling vaccines, asking questions and training recommendations. Fetching Tails Foundation has shown me the fake and judgmental side of dog adoption. I went through their process of questioning(24 emails) as well as the meet and greet at one of their houses in Itasca. A couple days later I was informed that they turned down all 14 people including myself for the adoption. They(Doreen) wrote a rephrased paragraph of Google information explaining that I would be a bad dog parent. I have excellent knowledge from working with dogs at daycares, shelters, and homes but the element I was missing to adopt from Fetching Tails Foundation was money and relatability. From the very limited amount of contact I've had with this foundation I know everything I need to know. The incredibly unprofessional way of dealing with business has created a completely sour taste in my mouth, and as much as it hurts me to say, DO NOT USE THIS RESCUE TO FIND YOUR NEW FURRY FAMILY MEMBER. There are far more professional rescues out there who are willing to work with you in finding the right pup for your family. The main reason for this review is the response we got from Fetching Tails. After enquiring abut a dog they had listed up, we were told to just fill in the application and they would get back to us. All well and good, we understand these places are busy and probably don't have time to reply to every email they get without an application (of course, having dealt with other rescues since, we know that if they really cared they'd provide some extra details AND the application). After filling out their incredibly long and detailed app (with very thoughtful answers) we submitted it and waited. With the day we received word back, and this is where the 1 star rating comes into effect, we were completely blown off in one sentence! One sentence for an application that took almost an hour to fill in. No explanation as to why we were automatically declined, no follow up questions to better understand the situation. We emailed back and again were given a one sentence reply without really answering our own follow up questions, and from there, nothing. We haven't heard back since. Completely unprofessional and definitely not a place you want to be in partners with when looking to find a new pet. 0/10 would recommend. read more

After searching for months for the perfect addition to our family we found Remington (Louisa) from fetching tails in August 2020. I applied for her right away and got a phone call within days to meet her. The day we met her she was with her wonderful foster mom Katie and her daughter. They were both very knowledgeable and let us take our time to meet and spend time with Remi. Katie answered any questions that I had for how Remi was doing in foster care and you could really tell how much they loved having Remi as their foster pup. A few days later they came to do a home check to make sure everything was in good condition to bring a puppy into our home. They made she the fence and yard was in perfect condition and expressed the concern they had with the fence (we fixed it that day). A couple days after I got the call from Katie that Louisa now Remington was our new fur baby and we couldn't be happier. We met Katie at Petco to fill out the rest of the paperwork and pick up our new baby girl. We have been working with Dale and Doreen as well who are very pleasant and such good people to work with. They are always so nice and willing to help and answer questions that you may have. Flash forward a few months now in January 2021 Remi is the most amazing addition to our family and we couldn't be happier that we went through fetching tails to find her. We still send updates to her foster mom Katie to keep her in the loop of how our girl is doing. Fetching tails is definitely a rescue I'd look at again. The experience was beyond good. I'm not one to leave reviews but I am still broken hearted over my experience here. Over the phone the lady that I had spoken to sounded incredibly excited with what I could offer a dog, and had led me to believe I was the first choice for the dog, however once she had seen me in person I could tell she was no longer interested. I do believe they are a bit racist here. I work with dogs, live an active lifestyle and honestly love nothing more than my dogs. They did not even do a home check as they said they would. I had then seen on their page they had adopted this puppy to an older white couple and have just felt incredibly insecure about even attempting to adopt another dog. I don't ever write reviews but I know that given my background and experience, I would have been the best applicant for that dog. Still, I am glad they do what they do, but after hearing about other people's experiences I wanted to share mine. Also just look at all of the people that they adopt dogs to- all white. We adopted a 1 year old pitbull (Rosey) from Fetching Tails. We already had a 2.5 year old pitbull (Ruby). I filled out the application, they called me back within 24 hours. The foster mom brought the rescue to our house to meet our dog! That was so convenient! They were very thorough in making sure we were fit parents and our home was suitable for another dog. I felt confident that our adopted/rescue dog was well taken care of prior to finding our forever home. The foster mom and I still keep in touch 2 years later, she loves getting pictures of Rosey and Ruby together. We are in the process of adopting a dog. I filled out an application and was contacted by one of their Foster Parents. She agreed to meet with me and the dog we were interested in. I would not recommend this rescue. They did not properly assess the dogs behavior of the pair we adopted and we were treated so unfairly when we were the ones trying to make this adoption work. They told us the dogs didn't need training and even clicked the box on their contract as "no". An animal behaviorist I hired stated otherwise. We spent hundreds of dollars plus the amount of the adoption fee and were treated as if we the ones that caused this and their issues. We offered to foster the dogs and they declined even though their Facebook page said they needed fosters. They would not help us or even offer to take one of the dogs back to help with individual training ( a recommendation by the professional I hired). They declined that saying they wouldn't separate the dogs as it would cause too much stress on foster's dogs she has at her home. When we brought the dogs back to the the foster home, some other person was there was not one of the original fosters had taken one of the dogs AFTER we were told they would not separate them. The foster abruptly took the dogs from us without giving us a chance to say goodbye while stressing the female dog as she was being put into a car of a person she never met (when it was supposed to be the other foster). We were yelled at and told we didn't give them a chance, when I have dozens of emails with everything we tried and the professional behaviorist we had to hire. While we understand that all shelter dogs would need training and an adjustment period, they should have never put on the contracts that they didn't need training and pass off their behavior as something else. read more
