We we told our pup was healthy from the rescue/Vet, we still took the pup to our regular Vet after bringing him home. It turns out, he still had fleas AND had a bad ear infection (and no medication was administered for it). Neither of which were addressed during the rescue's in-take and during his care/time at the farm. After another week... and we found live worms in our pup's stools and immediately had to buy more medicine for tapeworms. I read previous reviews saying similar experiences (but given they were anywhere from 1-2 yrs ago I thought this might have been addressed with the time that had passed), but no as of Nov 2024 these are still very valid conditions to be aware of. The animals need to be further tested and treated during the adoption process (and really should be done during a quarantine period to avoid it being a constant cycle at the Farm). To add to the issue, we have other pets at home, so, unbeknownst, introducing fleas and worms to the rest of our gang, plus remediation, was very frustrating. We've also asked for the formal rabies certificate, as well as the tag... and feel like the request goes ignored. They only hand wrote in a Rabies # on the adoption paperwork which doesn't seem very valid. I'm sad I have to write a "bad" review, because we'd like to believe the rescue's intetions are in the right place. But I hope FKAR considers these similar comments/complaints going forward to truly ensure they are adopting out healthy animals.

She clearly has no people skills and was very passive aggressive with me. I do not like how it was handled. She truly cares for the cats wellbeing and future, and will not allow them to be improperly placed into a home that does not suit them. She does not do cats as gifts to someone that is not applying for themselves. She does not do kittens as only pets. She tries not to split up bonded pairs. She does not do impulse adoptions on the same day. The process typically takes a couple days to ensure everyone in the household is ready to take on a potentially 20+ year commitment, to ensure the house is prepared for cats, and ensure the cat's paperwork for adoption is all in place. I also see others complain about the adoption fees, yet they go straight to the vet costs associated with each cat, which nowadays are always more expensive than the adoption fee itself. Sarah *does not* do this for the money, *she actually loses money* She is only in this to rescue great cats from this area that are typically on euthanasia row, or have come from awful situations. The last thing she wants to see is these cats to end up back in a bad situation like they originally came from by adopting to irresponsible people. That is why there is a application/interview process. I do recommend this rescue if you want to work with a true cat person that only cares about a cats best interests.

Even though the cats spend their days in small cages, there is a revolving cast of volunteers who come into the store daily and make sure the cats get exercised. They also "foster out' cats so that they become socialized and used to living in a home.

We have adopted three cats from this facility. I was also one of the volunteers for a while before…read moregoing back to school, so I have had first-hand experience of how the operation is run. Although it is a small shelter, they're very meticulous and take really good care of the cats. Each feline is "vetted", receives their shots, and is spayed or neutered before being adopted, so all of the medical necessities are included in the adoption "fee" (which makes it quite the bargain). All cats are screened for parasites and other ailments such as FIV and FIP (which is something that many pet stores do not do... a very sad lesson that a friend of mine learned the hard way) and are monitored for a period of time before being made available for adoption. There is a small army of dedicated foster parents and volunteers that care for the cats, making sure they are healthy and their personalities are suitable for being adopted, before they are moved into the "cattery" for viewing and, hopefully, adoption. The cages and litter boxes are cleaned and disinfected several times a week, and the cats are offered lots of time out to play and interact. There is such a sense of security when looking to adopt an animal from C.A.R. because you never have to worry about illness beyond a little winter cold (yep, cats get colds, too!) This is also a no-kill shelter. And unlike some places, you will never find the "it's just a cat" attitude here. The adoption process might seem a bit off-putting for those who are used to pet stores who will sell any animal to literally anyone without question, but C.A.R.'s goal is to make sure that everyone involved... both your family and the cat... will be happy. After all, adopting an animal is a commitment, and fates willing, you will have your pet for many, many years! They're very good about making sure that the cat's personality (shy, dominant, skittish, friendly, etc.) is right for your family and your home (single- or multi-cat home, families with or without children, families with or without dogs, etc.) The comfort, health, and safety of the cat is paramount. As I mentioned, we've adopted three cats from C.A.R. All three have been amazing... 100% litter-trained, healthy as horses, and absolute angels, with completely different personalities! Our lives are so much more complete with our little furbabies, and we really can't thank C.A.R. enough for taking such good care of them while they waited to come home.

I took my Shepherd here a lot. He was a senior so he had a lot of problems later on. Usually I…read moredidn't have a bad experience, but when it was time to say goodbye to my sweet boy it was awful. They sat me and my family in the room and took my boy to inject him with a sedative to put him in a twilight. They didn't tell me how out of it he was really going to be once he came back. He was barely conscious. They told us to ring this doorbell once we were ready to say goodbye, so we did. And then we did again. And then we did again. Three times to try and call someone to the room. Finally my partner had to go fetch someone and then it took an additional 10 minutes for a doctor to come. And whoever this male doctor was needs to understand delicate situations. He came in all joyful and upbeat asking "how is everyone today?" I'm putting my dog down how tf you think I'm doing?? He finally read the room and started speaking lower and calmer. And said he was going to put the final injection into my boy, but he didn't tell us what a horrible reaction his body was going to do in reaction to the injection. It was an awful experience and I would give anything to be able to change that experience so it wasn't so traumatic. I have my other dog who I used to take there but I really don't know if I can go back after that. It was so awful. After 6 months I still cry about it.

I could not believe how beautiful his teeth looks. His teeth was very discolored by plaque and tarter build up on top of some gum issues and a few loose teeth that was probably causing him some discomfort. I am so happy that I chose them to do the procedure. I left my vet of 20 years for reasons not worth mentioning. After getting a reasonable estimate for Dobby, and meeting the Vet's at Care, I am making them my vet for my 3 dogs and 2 cats.
