Top notch! Primarily Italian, but there are other options. My wife had the Branzino con Limone and I had the Bistecca de Manzo. Both were delicious, the fish was moist and falling off the bone tender. The ribeye was melt in your mouth tender and full of flavor. The potatoes were crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The broccolini was cooked well, but not soft. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the waiter had waitresses were very attentive. The setting was a a bit dark and romantic adding to the experience. The rustic decor was perfect for the setting. We came for our anniversary, they comped the dessert and topped it with a candle. Even though we were only in Idyllwild for 2 days, Ferro was so good we went back the next night for dinner. Everything is made in house including the pasta and bread. Let me say something about the bread. I am a bread baker, usually sourdough. This bread was some of the best I've ever had. I asked the waiter where they got it and that's when he told me they make it there, and as he pointed out, the fact that they're able to create such amazing bread at that elevation is quite a feat. We started with the burrata and a Caesar and WHEW. That burrata is the best I've ever had (they make it in house) and the caesar is a true Caesar, complete with anchovies and slightly wilted greens. Impeccable. Then we got to the entrees and just... No words?? But also so many words lol. My husband got the lasagna (incredible, heavy on the mozz, slightly burnt/crispy edges, amazing sauce) and I got the carbonara... I was raving about the carbonara after every effing bite. It was rich, creamy, salty, and had the perfect amount of crispy, rich bacon bits. My husband had never had carbonara before and I definitely shot myself in the foot because after THAT carbonara he'll never be satisfied with another version of it. The bread was quite tasty, and veggies were ok. Just wanted a little something to go with all the carbs we were about to eat. I got the bolognese, and it was delicious. We made reservations, arrived on time, were told our table was being prepared, only to find out after a 10 minute wait that nothing was prepared; we were just given the option of 3 unset tables. There were a few other occupied tables on the back patio with us, but the service was incredibly slow--which was okay--and inconsistent--which was not okay for a restaurant that prides itself for its "gracious service". We had to ask for cutlery (the host ended up bringing them), extra bowls (the pizza chef brought those). We barely saw our server. Well before our entrees came out, our server recommended some wines to accompany mine and said they'd be out "right away"... they came out after we had finished (which was already an understable wait). My wife and I went here to celebrate our 20th anniversary and it turned out to be a disaster. First, lighting upstairs was so dim we needed a phone to read the menu. Second, we ordered the bread and butter and the crust of the bread was extremely salty. Third, my wife ordered the half chicken and I ordered the rabbit. Her half chicken came out looking burnt but was raw and bloody inside. We mentioned this to the waitress and she said "what do you want me to do" we had her it take it to the kitchen to be cut in quarters. She brings my it back and rudely says it's not raw. We use our phone lights to discover it was clearly raw. I asked to speak to a manger.and the manager asked if I wanted it further cooked or removed from .my bill. I mentioned if it was recoooked it would turn dry so I asked it to be removed from the bill. No apologies we're made and we paid and walked out. The rabbit was dry and low on flavor. Reservations are recommended but we arrived on a Monday night and walked in, no problem, seated immediately indoors. Service here was impeccable; friendly, professional, and attentive. A tray of olives and breadsticks were brought to our table as we looked over the menu. There are many pasta dishes to choose from but I decided to try one of their pizzas - salame funghi. My pizza toppings consisted of pepperoni, mushrooms, and mozzarella. The thin crust was crisp around the edges and sturdy enough to immediately pick up slices and devour. This was a superbly delicious pizza. It was too much for me to finish so I saved a couple pieces for "breakfast pizza". Raspberry sorbet for dessert was excellent. The large single scoop was full of flavor to savor but I must admit I've had homemade raspberry sorbet elsewhere that beat this. But I'm nitpicking. Prices were surprisingly reasonable. I was so impressed by Ferro, we came in from San Diego and I saw that there were so many great recommendations, so we tried it out for a Friday night dinner. We sat upstairs, it's very cute and cozy. We started off with the Panzanella salad which had these deliciously toasted homemade croutons and fresh veggies. I had the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio con Pomodori Secchi which was cooked perfectly al dente and was so flavorful, the homemade bread it was served with was perfect. Went here with my date in the Winter of 2024. An incredible date spot, very romantic. We sat on the second floor at a candlelit table for two, between the staircase and the server computer area. Though the area was a bit small, it still felt intimate. Be warned, though: this restaurant can get busy, and very loud as the place itself is small. We came at what seemed like their busiest time for dinner, and it was quite loud due to the families there. The first restaurant which I have been to that serves pasta straws instead of plastic ones. An interesting experience that oddly enough did not make my date's lemonade taste like pasta water. I got the wild boar lasagna and my date got a simple margerhita spaghetti with some sausage. The spaghetti was alright, as good as a simple spaghetti can get. The lasagna was surprisingly large and very filling, we took home leftovers. This was our best meal during our weekend stay in Idyllwild. Reservation is highly recommended, and service was amazing despite a busy July 4th evening. As soon as we were seated, olives with breadsticks came with the MOST delicious whipped butter! They were gone in seconds and we were not ashamed to ask for another plate. My sangria was strong but it was great with my entree, the salmone arrosto. Hubby got the linguine fra diavolo and the lobster tail was massive! Let me start by saying that Ferro has all the makings of a charming, memorable dining experience. The restaurant is tucked away in the scenic mountaintop town of Idyllwild, boasting a quaint and stylish ambiance that immediately sets a welcoming tone. The staff? Warm, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. From the moment the bread sticks and butter were brought to the table, I had high hopes. The butter was a creamy blend of herbs and spices--full of promise. I thought, "Okay, we're in for a treat," especially since so many locals had recommended the spot. We ordered the gluten-free pizza and the Pollo Arrosto--a classic roasted chicken dish. When the plates arrived, the presentation was decent, but the taste... or rather the lack of it, was stunning. My wife and I exchanged a glance that felt eerily familiar to the early days of COVID--as if our taste buds had suddenly vanished. The gluten-free pizza was perhaps the most bland, forgettable version I've ever encountered. I understand gluten-free crusts are different, but this was completely devoid of flavor, seasoning, or soul. The Pollo Arrosto was somehow both dry and greasy, with no discernible herbs or seasoning to speak of. Even the potatoes and broccolini--simple sides that usually shine with a touch of salt, garlic, or olive oil--were disappointingly dull and lifeless. It pains me to say this, because we've fallen in love with Idyllwild and wanted to love Ferro just as much. But based on our visit, this restaurant is in serious need of a menu overhaul--or perhaps a new chef who can bring the food up to the level of its atmosphere and service. Looking for interesting places to eat during our weekend getaway at Idyllwild, multiple reviews and online articles mentioned Ferro as being the "best" restaurant in the area, so we decided to make dinner reservations. Making the reservation was pretty easy on OpenTable, and I quickly got a phone call to confirm it. We requested for a table in their back patio, which seemed to be the popular choice. Getting there, we could see why. The ambiance in that area was really nice, with views of the pines. It was a little warm when we dined (we did have an early dinner at 5pm), but it was worth it eating outside. We started with the complimentary breadsticks, which we enjoyed, as they were crunchy and went well with the butter. Olives were also served, but we hate olives so those were left untouched. Next was the Caesar salad, which my husband did not like as much as the dressing was too sour for him. We ordered a pizza and pasta to share. It was great that we could order two pizza flavors in one pie: we got half mushrooms and pepperoni, and the other half was the sausage and fennel. The pizza was just okay... the toppings were a little too salty. We enjoyed the sausage and fennel a bit more than the mushrooms and pepperoni half. We love the simple pasta dish with garlic and olive oil, the Spaghetti Aglio Olio, but their version wasn't the best. We ended with the banana bread with nutella gelato, which again, was just okay. The banana bread was dry, so the gelato definitely helped. I did like the nutella sauce and the fresh banana on the side (which is always a winning combination). Overall, our dinner at Ferro was a little disappointing. I guess we are just spoiled with the plethora of good Italian restaurants in LA. But Ferros has that awesome back patio! The only thing I can say is the wine selection sucks. The house wine is something I can pick up at 7-Eleven for six bucks. I also saw the same wine at the town market. Considering the immense selection of imports from Italy and CA the wine selection is mediocre at best. And it never changes.... it's always the same wine. We sat on the back patio where they even have live music and a brick pizza oven. I enjoyed (and devoured) the Linguine e Pollo con Crema al Limone, which is linguine, torn chicken breast, capers, lemon-cream sauce, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the flavors worked perfectly together with a glass of Turnbull Sauv Blanc. We went for an early dinner, but it was definitely getting full when we were leaving.
