I took two of my children to Dr. Ferris after consulting with several other orthodontists. Every other orthodontist I saw recommended braces because both of my children had severe overbites and excessive overjet. After performing his examination, Dr. Ferris strongly recommended Invisalign for both of them. He told me he was the number one Invisalign specialist in California, had more experience than any other orthodontist, and lectured around the world. Based on his expertise, I trusted his recommendation. He estimated treatment would take approximately 12 to 18 months. After about a year of treatment, I began noticing significant issues with both of my children's teeth. As a dentist and their mother, I expressed my concerns to Dr. Ferris. Rather than addressing the problems, he attributed the issues to my children's lips and skeletal anatomy instead of acknowledging that the treatment might not be progressing appropriately. We discussed switching both children to braces, and set up an appointment for the transition. However, when we arrived for the appointment, Dr. Ferris told us he had changed his mind and continued with Invisalign. After 24 months, Dr. Ferris considered my daughter's treatment complete, even though her bite and tooth position were clearly not corrected. I sought several opinions from other Orthodontists and chose one who restarted her in braces. I paid approximately $4,500 for additional treatment, which lasted another year and a half before her orthodontic issues were finally corrected. My son's treatment continued with Invisalign for approximately 30 months. At that point, Dr. Ferris started him on another series of aligners. During that appointment, I again pointed out the obvious problems with my son's bite and overall treatment results. The very next day, I received a termination letter dismissing my son from the practice. He ended my son's treatment in the middle of care without completing it and without providing referrals to another orthodontist. I consulted several other orthodontists, and each of them told me that Invisalign was never an appropriate treatment option for my son's condition and that he should have been treated with braces from the beginning. I ultimately took him to the same orthodontist who had corrected my daughter's treatment. I paid another approximately $4,500 to start treatment over with braces. Nearly two years later, he is still undergoing treatment. Because Dr. Ferris terminated my son's care without completing treatment and refused to refund the more than $6,000 I had paid, I was forced to file a lawsuit. In addition, my son's current orthodontist informed me that he now requires periodontal surgery as a result of complications that developed during his Invisalign treatment. When I brought this to Dr. Ferris's attention, he admitted that he had been aware of the periodontal issue but had never informed me of it during my son's treatment. After approximately 30 months of treatment, it became apparent that Dr. Ferris had been unable to achieve the treatment goals he had originally promised for my son. Rather than acknowledging that Invisalign had not successfully corrected my son's bite or discussing an appropriate transition to braces, he chose to terminate my son from his practice the day after I raised concerns about the obvious deficiencies in his treatment. The reason given was that I, as his mother, no longer trusted him. However, my concerns were based on the lack of progress after more than two and a half years of treatment, the visible discrepancies in my son's bite, and the opinions of multiple orthodontists who later confirmed that Invisalign was not an appropriate treatment for his case. It is difficult to understand how questioning the effectiveness of a treatment after 30 months of unsuccessful care could justify terminating a minor patient instead of providing appropriate treatment or referring him for the care he needed. It was obvious the stated reason for terminating my son's treatment was simply an excuse after it became clear that he could not achieve the promised results. I am currently involved in a lawsuit with Dr. Ferris as a result of his termination of my minor son's orthodontic treatment before it was completed. His decision to discontinue treatment without providing appropriate continuity of care or a referral forced us to seek treatment elsewhere, resulting in significant additional expenses, prolonged treatment, and additional procedures that may have been avoided had appropriate care been provided. The matter is currently pending in court. read more

I previously had traditional braces when i was younger. Due to not wearing my retainers I had experienced some shifts which led to some bite and grinding issues. The Staff and Dr. Quinn did a great job of explaining to me all the steps in the initial consultation while also giving me the space to ask questions and make sure i fully understood the process and procedure. When i came back for my attachments the appointment was quick and Sandra did a great job. unfortunately one broke off but they where very responsive and got me in next day to get it fixed. Nice people but not responsive for questions or special requests. Simple requests, such as ordering a new retainer, can be lost in the system and require 5+ phone calls to resolve. Overpriced, but that may say more about Invisalign than Ferris. Lastly, I had a reaction to the Invisalign (mild allergy to a chemical used in the process) and never received an explanation as to what/where this chemical was coming from. I was told that it was too difficult to get all the information. A few months later I found the info on my own (and I do not even work for the company!). They did not put the effort in to assist me. It felt like a factory operation where you better fit the mold, and if you are not an easy patient, they blow you off. read more

I started my treatment with Dr. Ferris earlier this year, and I had mentioned that I would be moving out of state. Dr. Ferris reassured me that this was not an issue, as he could make me a good amount of trays until I could return to Santa Barbara for a check-up. The first set of trays arrived and did not fit. They rescanned me, and I had to wait another 4 weeks for them to arrive in the mail. I tried on the second set and they too did not fit. The office said it was their mistake- they used the inadequate first scan instead of the second scan. At this point, I had already had the attachments on my teeth for two months without any fitting aligners and was hesitant to try a third time, as the office had been incompetent until this point. I was ultimately advised by the staff to transfer care to an orthodontist in my new city, but they said that I would have to pay a $2800 cancellation fee. I did end up paying the fee since I was locked into it with a contract, but this was the most discouraging, capitalistic, dehumanizing experience that I've had with a medical facility. It was their fault, and I paid nearly $3000 for nothing. This felt like a money grab and not genuine care. Skip these assholes. read more

Just got my Invisalign from Dr. Ferris and I couldn't be happier! I love the 3D scan - no need for uncomfortable x-rays. The staff is welcoming and timely, I barely had sat down and they were ready to see me. A sweet assistant named Mercedes got me all set up and answered all my questions (she gave some great tips: don't let your pets get ahold of your retainers! And be careful of turmeric as it will stain them!). My husband recommended I see Dr. Ferris, as he got great results working with him. Dr. Ferris is friendly and laid back, and apparently is one of the top Invisalign educators - he gives lectures all over, and you can tell he's very knowledgeable. I am a dental hygienist in the SB area and have been for many years. I have many patients with complicated occlusion.
