Unless I am traveling I almost always fuel up at Costco. This particular location tends to be…read morecrowded. Often the lines are too long for me and I wind up going elsewhere. I don't know what Costco could do to fix this. Maybe install a few more pumps? It's already a pretty big location. Hiring more workers could help. And getting some of the attendants to shift out of low gear would definitely help. I get it that it's a boring, mostly unfulfilling occupation. But when I was a kid I worked at a gas station and could get large numbers of vehicles fueled and on their way quickly... which included checking the oil/tires, cleaning windshields and so on. Costco attendants do none of those things. So you can definitely save some dough getting your fuel here but plan on spending some time waiting in line idling before you close to a pump. Bring a book, right?

After the play was finished I figured I would just head to the local Fred Meyer, since I needed some things from the store and usually their gas prices are pretty reasonably low, sometimes the lowest. I came across the Space Age which is the cheap gas station I was remembering. The gas was ten cents cheaper at the Space Age versus the Fred Meyer but I paid the price since the gas pumps scream commercials at you while you pump. That seemed very ridiculous and over the top, especially at 10pm.

I really like this location a lot, it is easy to get in and out of the pumps. The employees are…read morevery friendly and move quickly. Since self-service has been made available in Oregon, I do tend to hit that side and pump my own gas. Employees do constantly check on self-service users to make sure they are doing alright and if not, they assist without hesitation. What I found that really helps get through the self-service pumps is to use the Kroger-Pay inside the Fred Meyer app. It is way easier than using their slow computer screens on the pump, it takes in account your reward points and charges the credit card you have setup in the app. I can start pumping in usually a few seconds after I add the pump number. This also works if you go to full-service and the attendants love it when you do. Lastly the price at Fred Meyer is not as good as Costco, but the lines can be shorter, and it is usually cheaper than any other place nearby.
