I visited the restaurant for the first time on Saturday. Food was pretty good and good size servings however prices were very high. Most entrees were in the low to mid $30s which I thought was excessive for that type of place. They did have live music and the ambiance of the place was romantic and calm with low light. We were welcomed quickly and our waiters were very attentive. Not sure why a reservation was needed. Not busy at all. The food was tasty. Menu not very large. My husband and I visited Fernando's for our date recently and found that the hospitality is very welcoming. The atmosphere is very romantic with the dim lighting and diverse music. I truly enjoyed the experience in itself. The waitstaff were very attentive and catered to our needs with no complaints nor long wait times. Now let me speak about our meal. My husband is not a huge steak eater, however, after the medium well steak, potatoes delicious garlic bread and pico I believe that this may change his mind. He could not stop raving about the juiciness and tenderness of the steak. I had the Milanese with pasta and mixed veggies. I most certainly will not complain about this entree at all! I went here a year ago and I wrote a review on Google reviews. All of a sudden I remember this place and I can't help but repeat how bad this place is. I just have to post it again and again... Heard about this place on groupon and decided to give it a try. Waiter is extremely rude. Was not attentive whatsoever. When we ordered, he seemed to rush us and went away. We, then, asked for a drink menu, and he said they did not have one and that he will tell the bartender what we wanted and quickly went over to the next table. When he is over the next table, he was standing there talking and laughing with the patrons and offered them the drink menu. Bad service. Food was alright. My family and I went here because of a Groupon deal and it was our first time. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated because there was no hostess. We got our drinks in a timely fashion, it took a while for our menus and even longer to order. I had to flag down a waiter who graciously took our order. The food was served in a very timely fashion. We started with the shrimp and empanada appetizer. They were both decent. I forgot to mention, they have a small menu. We had the paella, the steak (2), and the fish entrees, I forgot the exact names of them. None of it was impressive, just ok. My veggies seemed like they came from a frozen bag because when I bit into it, it was warm on the outside and cold on the inside. The desserts were good though, we had the chocolate cake and cheesecake and my daughters and father enjoyed it. Absolutely the BEST steak I have ever tasted, including Taste of Texas. The shrimp was phenomenal, and the salmon was also the best I have ever tasted. There were 10 in our party, and absolutely everyone was impressed with what they ordered. Starting with the plantains and cilantro/avocado dip, and ending with dessert, everything was superb. The ambiance is wonderful, with a beautiful interior. Service was great. This may be the first time we ate there, but it will definitely not be the last. My boyfriend and I love this place. Why go to Perry's steakhouse when you can come here. The ambiance is romantic, the food is consistently flavourful and cooked perfectly. I love the complimentary plantains and cilantro cream dip they bring to the table. The crawfish bisque is rich And creamy with seafood flavour. The fish dish is light and juicy. There is an older crowd here but it's cute when they get out on the dance floor and dance. They have had the one waiter who has been there forever. He makes a perfect Mojito. The flan is homemade and is a great desert to round out the meal. Fernando does the cooking himself and he tries to come out and say hi if he's not busy to the guests after the meals. After coming here for years with my family and using Fernando's for several corporate catering events, I decided to use them for my wedding. Not only did they provide the food, but we hosted the wedding ceremony and reception at the venue. The wedding was 100 people and the space was absolutely perfect. Fernando hired additional wait and bar staff, so the service was outstanding. We got so much great feedback from our guests about the delicious food and how much they loved the space. We had always been eyeing this place and when we saw the Groupon, we decided it was finally time. I had seen many reviews so I was quite excited for my dinner date here with my husband. The food was great. The plaintain chips were amazing and my husband really enjoyed his sirloin. The major downfall for us is that despite the Groupon, we still ended up paying full price. They added a service fee of $20 for using the Groupon. If it weren't for that, we would have been repeat customers. Last night was our first time at Fernandos Restaurant on 59 Southwest fwy. in Sugar Land, and will be the last time! from the moment we walked in, we had to stand at the front for about 7 minutes before a waiter noticed us and came to take us to our table! there was no host/hostess to greet at front! there was only 5 couples dining, but when we called to make reservations we were told it was full and it was the only spot available! on top of that, we had to sit for a good 10 minutes before they even brought us the menus and another 15-20 minutes for them take our order! We've had better prime rib then this! potatoes taste like they were made the day before, the salad was old with nasty watery dressing! the bread tasted old and was just put in a nice plate to make it look good! Dessert tasted like it had been in freezer for a few days already! Very disappointed over all! Service was extremely poor! only one server and he was very slow and we couldn't understand what he was saying most of the time, at the end we had to go find him to bring us our bill! sadly we didn't think it was worth our time and money, We don't recommend it! read more

I am a bit uneasy about this review that I am about to write. My partner and I used a Groupon to visit this restaurant. I had the steak and she had something else. My review is not about the food because it was great! I have to admit that everything as far as the food, was impeccable. Also, the service was quite good. Actually, the service was VERY good. My issue, and the reason I will NEVER return to this restaurant was the bill. As mentioned before, we were redeeming a Groupon that we aid $49.00 for. There was a predetermined side of the menu that was specifically set for Groupon redeemers, and that was ok with me because the selections were still good. The total of the bill was $124.87....BEFORE tax and gratuity. The gratuity was $24.97 (an amount that just magically appeared) and the grand total was $162.20. Now I have to say that we ALWAYS tip 15 - 20% or depending on the service but I want to be the one to tip! After the food tab of $104.95 was deducted from the bill, we were left with a balance owed of $57.65. In addition to the tax being added against our will, we were TAXED on the tip too! Initially, when we were dining, the food was so good that I logged into my Groupon account and purchased another deal...right there at the table. Went to Fernando's with a Groupon. The place was very slow during a weekday. The food was mediocure and bland tasting. Very hard to image anyone will go there at the regular (high) price. They charged us tax on the full (original, non-discounted) amount of the bill. I have used Groupons numerous times and no restaurant has done this, but they insist that it must be included. I had great hopes for this restaurant but came away extremely disappointed with the food and more so with the service. Let me start by saying I'm usually pretty forgiving of restaurants as I've worked in one myself. I also would like to say, I eat everything, and almost never fail to enjoy anything I try. We thought Fernando's was a great concept combining a steak house with Latin flare and decided to try it; there are many fine steak houses out there but they all start tasting the same as it's the prime cuts of meat you enjoy and not necessarily the culinary creativity. Starting off, the salads were obviously sitting there for a long time drowning in dressing. There was so much caesar dressing on my salad that I couldn't finish it (and that rarely ever happens). Amongst the four of us that went for dinner, the scallops were the best dish and was tender and flavorful. Flavor was actually good in all the dishes, but the carne asada, lamb chops (ordered medium rare), and shrimp were somewhat tough and dry. The meat was definitely not of the same quality as what you would get at Morton's or Ruth's Chris. To be fair, they don't really advertise the beef cuts as prime, but the prices certainly were in the ballpark of those aforementioned restaurants. The lamb chops portion was also small as it was $38 for four pieces. For dessert, we had the empanadas and the tres leches. The empanadas were greasy and looked like it was filled with jelly out of a jar. The tres leches cake was sitting in a puddle of milk and had obviously been in the refrigerator for a long time. All of this pointed to an under-staffed kitchen that pre-makes their food long in advance. We normally fight over every bite of dessert but actually left behind half of the dishes. Service was even worse than the food. They had one waiter that hosted as well served at least 10-12 tables. He and three runners that helped to fill drinks and serve the food ran the entire show. It took 15 minutes to get even an acknowledgement from our waiter just to get our drink orders. Usually, at fine steakhouses, the waiter will introduce the menu at each stage (appetizers, main course) and explain the specials. There was none of that here. There was no cleaning of crumbs in between. There was no "two minutes two bites" to check on how our food was at each course. There was also no manager to come either ask about the overall experience or even be available for us to flag down to give comments This service wouldn't have even been adequate in a neighborhood casual dining chain restaurant. As mentioned in some previous posts, the tip amount was included in the bill for our party of four. Perhaps the waiter knew how poor his service was as we will never go back to this restaurant. read more

Visited for the first time this past Thursday night. Very nice place, quiet and romantic. Service is slow, but friendly. Food was mediocre at best, and overpriced. And the one thing that really killed it for me was when my husband went to pay with his credit card.....the server swipes it in his phone, and hands it back for you to add the tip and sign. The tip amounts are programed in already....for 15, 25, and 35%. Those are your options. I find that highly offensive...it's a tip and you should be able to add your own appropriate amount. My husband usually tips 20%, but since it wouldn't let him, the server got 15. They should spend more time on what they are serving instead of trying to get you to pay more in tips. read more

At first glance the restaurant looks very nice and I had high hopes going in and only knew about them through groupon but that's were the positive ends. The service was "performed" well enough though the waiter was almost hostile in performing it and we were treated defiantly as second class customers when it became known we were using groupon. The food was ok at best and extremely overpriced even at half price I feel ripped off for what I got. I will not eat there again. From the start this was a bad experience. First, I called that morning and asked for a 6:30pm reservation and was told they were booked and only had openings earlier than 6:15pm or after 7:45pm. When we got there at 6:15pm there was only one other table taken and by the time we left at 7:15pm, only one other table was seated. Now to the food, do not order the calamari! It was overcooked and the worst calamari appetizer I have ever had anywhere. Also, the entrée was bland and lacked any imagination or spice, as advertised. We did not stay for dessert and will never go back. Also, as a side note to the owner, take down the cheezy picture of your patron posing in his karate outfit in the last booth as it is in bad taste and offensive to all other patrons. I invited my parents to Fernando's to celebrate my dad's birthday (party of 5) and we were using a Travelzoo for $94, which the restaurant already knew about since I told them when making the reservation. We got seated promptly, but after that had to wait about 15 minutes for the waiter to ask us what we'd drink or eat. He was serving everyone else but us! The ambiance was not bad, but the food was not that great either. We had to flag down the guy for our bill too, which turned to be way expensive. With some additional appetizers we got, I calculated it would be $40 or so more, but they added the taxes based on what the meal would have cost had I paid full price, plus they added on their gratuity, though we were only 5 of us. My husband and I kept saying we really wanted to try this place. We tried to get in a number of times and could not get a reservation. We finally got in on a Saturday night at 7:45pm. So we got all dressed up for a nice evening. When we arrived the parking lot was practically empty. When we entered the restaurant, we waited some time before anyone greeted us. Inside the restaurant, it was pretty darn empty as well, maybe 5 tables were full. (Please let me note, a man in the restaurant was wearing a baseball cap while seated at one of the dinner tables.) WHAT!!! They seated us and were very attentive. We asked for the wine list and all I had to do was take a quick glance. Sorry we enjoy a good wine, not wine snobs, but we definitely were not interested in Beringer's Wine Zinfandel with a nice dinner. While the ambiance was really luxurious we sat in a semi empty resteruant at 6pm on a Friday evening because they told us they were booked. We left at 7pm no more people. The groupon we used was worthless. Tons of hidden fees. Drinks are crazy overpriced. Food was descent but Papaduexs would have been just as good and a lot more fun. I'm not a fan. read more
