They have an awesome happy hour lunch menu. You get to pick a salad, appetizer, and sushi roll($15 worth only). The service was fine they do get busy so it's hard for the waiter to keep up. He did come by periodically and gave good suggestions and picked up like straw trash and empty plates. I tried the dumplings in which I got half fried and half steamed. I think I do like them steamed better. I tried the ponzu salad which was basically seaweed salad. I also tried the crab puffs and they were my favorite! It has some green sauce and that made the crab puffs stand out even more! Just the flavor and textures of the crab puffs were delightful. It had like something spicy mayo like sauce on it and then the outer layer was fried and the inside was like melted perfectly with what you would find in a crab puff. I also tried the hippie dragon. It had a generous amount of red topiko on top of it and then it was kinda like a Philadelphia roll but had avocado on top. The inside of the place is big for a sushi joint. It felt a little upscale but casual and affordable. The place is dimly lit to give you date vibes. Overall, this is a great option to go to if you want affordable sushi that isn't AYCE quality.

Alrite, 3 years later we're back to just try their rolls. No lunch menu this time. We tried the Spicy Sugar Land, Torched Salmon, Tropic Thunder and Paradise Roll. They were all fantastic! The torched salmon was the winner. Bumped up to 4 stars overall.

Came to Japanerio's to check it out and overall, the experience was pretty mid-level for me. We started with the spicy edamame and shrimp dumplings--nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. For nigiri, we ordered yellowtail, salmon, and two pieces of tuna. They were fine, but didn't really stand out compared to other sushi spots in the area. We also tried the Spicy Sugar Land roll and the Money Roll. Unfortunately, the Money Roll had way too much mayo and sauce for my liking, which completely masked the flavor of the fish. The food overall just didn't impress me as much as I was hoping. This spot has been around for a long time, and you can definitely tell from the interior--it feels a bit dated. That said, the service was the highlight of the night. Our waiter was amazing--very kind, attentive, and made us feel welcome. If anything, the staff really elevates the experience here, even if the food didn't quite hit the mark for me.

I tried something new at Japaneiros instead of sushi I got the grilled chicken with vegetables and sweet potato fries. It was SO good. Super flavorful and moist chicken. The seasoning was very tasty. The whole dish was excellent. I'll get it again. Of course I had to get the crab puff appetizer. I love it so much I could just order it alone. Our server was top notch. We sat outside because the weather was beautiful. We were well taken care of. Sometimes outside diners are forgotten for spells of time but not us. It was perfect.

The avocado cream soup. I travelled 1,500 miles just for this!!!!

My absolute favorite restaurant in Sugarland by far!!!! I love everything about this place, the sushi, the non-sushi items, the drinks, the ambiance, the service, it's all fantastic!!! When I was a local, I lunched or dined at Japaneiro's at least 3 times a week. Now every time I travel to Houston, I make sure to stop by to enjoy my favorite dishes which I miss tremendously. My go-to dishes are the avocado cream soup, the maduro plantain, the money roll, and of course the tres leches!!! The food is always so consistent and the sushi is so fresh! I need a Japaneiro's in California!!!! Maybe I should talk to the owners about that, LOL!!!

First time at Japanieros, Giselle, was more than patient with my questions about the menu. The food itself had a lot of highlights: the dumplings were light and tasty, the veggie tempura was crisp and delightful, the toro came in sizable bites that melt in your mouth, and the fresa hamachi had a nice little kick. The seared truffle salmon was good but not great. The downside, and it's absolutely worth calling out is the sashimi sampler. The toro up-charge on it is criminal: $40. So high they have to double charge it on your receipt because their system will not let them up-charge you that much. Considering toro a la carte is $55 and the sampler is $42, it makes no sense to pay that much just for a couple pieces. Do yourself a favor and skip the sampler upgrade unless you're into souring your entire dining experience.

Dinner was great. I ordered the ATOMIC NACHOS Crunchy lavash chips topped with Monterey Jack cheese, crispy shrimp, chile de arbol salsa, nata cream, serrano peppers and guacamole! For the table. They tore it up before I could take the picture. Then I ordered THE NOODLE Udon Noodles stir-fried with your choice of protein, carrots, broccoli, onions, chili flakes, green onions and crispy garlic! With beef and shrimp. Delicious! Someone else ordered SEAFOOD RICE Stir-fried rice with shrimp, salmon, vegetables, herbs and spices served with sweet plantain slices. A couple of them order this. They said it was great. All seven of us were very satisfied! Ten stars.

Classic margarita & strawberry Caipirinha

Few yummies from Japaneiro's... I could feel right at home if I dined solo or if I dined in a group. The BEST waiter is John. He's been there forever and knows his $hit backwards & forwards.

Japaneiros is a casual sushi spot in sugarland! It is a tried and true spot and I've been coming here for years. I moved out the city, moved back and it is still sooo good! My fav is the Fiji roll, the plantain on top really tops it off for me maybe because I'm African. The fresa hamachi will definitely open up your nostrils lol just a heads up! The service is also always pretty good! They have a pretty good happy hour and It's never too busy

Arrived for "Happiest Hour" and after two double Tito's martinis, I was indeed, happy enough to ignore the bartender's half-hearted effort to add more than three olives on the side. $5.00 for six (6) dumplings and $10.00 for an excellent "Sugar Land" roll. Very delicious, explains why I cannot seem to try anywhere else among the wonderful little plaza. Service from Miranda was friendly and fast

Nice restaurant with kind staff and good food. They have a pretty good lunch special ($15 12-3pm if i'm not mistaken), and the fusion menu is very creative with something for everyone to enjoy. The food tasted good, but the portions are definitely on the smaller side.

Sara's service is always top tier! The food was just as good. I love to go there for the environment it's busy but always calms me down.

Ask the Community - Japaneiro's

Do they make reservations?

No they do not

Is the $5 sake bomb on the HH menu just one serving? Or is it a full set with multiple servings?

8oz

What time is their Happy Hour? Do they have lunch specials?

Lunch Specials are amazing! I want to say it's $12 and you get a three-course meal. Excellent options! HH, I want to say is 4-6 but could be wrong!

Which rolls are offered as Half? instead of the full order? Thanks in advance

The rolls come as a full dinner roll. You may ask your waiter if you can get the lunch portion instead which is usually a smaller roll.

How much is sushi during happy hour?

It depends on what you get. There are limited sushi options on the happy hour menu. Rolls on the happy hour menu are $5-7.

Does this place have something other than sushi?

They do. It's good place to if you want to go eat with someone that doesn't eat sushi.

I get it - it's right after the holidays so staffing could be short. The server we had wasn't exactly enthusiastic, just did the bare minimum. Dishes piled up and we weren't asked about refills. You'd figure because there was only 1 group that the service would be attentive, but nope! The food that we ordered from the kitchen were all super fresh and delicious. My favorites were the bulgogi gimbap, eggroll (tiny rolled egg omelette), and chicken wings! They come out super hot - loved them all. The hot buffet bar was not filled at all, some were even just empty. I found it disappointing that we didn't get to try a lot of their items. The hot buffet bar was really scarce, I mean, just fried dumplings and fries but they were refilled really slow and some never had refills. The boba bar was empty and never filled. The DIY ramen station was closed off. I tipped only because I felt like I had to, but the service was abysmal. I would come back but maybe for lunch instead of dinner. Hopefully service improves.

I have passed by their restaurant many times, but it never occurred to me to go in until one day I was surprised to see them ranked in the top 100 ramen places nationally on Yelp! With less than 300 reviews, I was skeptical at first but was intrigued to give it a try, and I'm so glad that I did! I visited on a Friday afternoon right before New Year's and was greeted warmly by the staff inside. As I was indecisive on what to order in the ramen section, I asked the staff for suggestions. She was kind to walk me through the menu without rushing to get an order, and she mentioned that their most popular item is actually the beef noodles. That was all I needed to make a decision to try the beef noodles. While waiting for the food, I chatted with the staff and learned that the restaurant opened right before the pandemic then shifted their model to take-out only as the pandemic begin. Since then, they've tried to make use of their restaurant space to return to dine-in but it has been difficult to find reliable workers. In the interest of keeping the quality consistent and customers happy, they've decided to make sacrifices to keep the business model as is for take-out only instead of scaling up with additional staff, which is such a shame given the rent in the area is not cheap and they have such a beautiful space! When you hear "take-out only", I know what you're thinking, BUT I promise you this is the best takeout food you will ever have! The packaging is very well-designed to keep the flavors and ingredients at its finest! As I mentioned, I ordered the beef noodles, and typically noodle dishes are not ideal for takeout, but Asia Blue separates the soup from the noodles so that the noodles are not soggy, and even after half hour, the soup stayed warm and flavorful. The noodles also came paired with many mini side dishes as palate cleansers, which were a nice surprise. From my conversation with the staff, I've also learned that this is one of the rare places that truly make their broth fresh from premium ingredients! You can be sure that it's MSG free and packed with healthy nutrients, and that's a quality that you can taste. I highly recommend this place for your next ramen adventure, and I certainly will be returning again very soon to try the other menu items. :)

When you pickup your food, the sit down area is dark, and there isn't much of a waiting area. It looks to be run by two folks, the cook and the cashier. It is probably best to order over the app, as the one cashier is busy packing the food in the fancy packaging and dealing with the money transactions. Since it is only two people, it can be slow to get your food when it is busy. I waited an additional 20 mins from the projected time it was suppose to be done. As for the food, the miso ramen was packed in this fancy box. The box contained the soup separated from the noodles with a few side dishes. I believe this is the only vegi ramen they offer. It is nothing special. The broth is basically miso soup with soy sauce. (2 out of 5) The cold sesame noodles was better. It had more flavor. (4 out of 5) The Salt & Pepper Chicken was good (4.5 out of 5). I couldn't help eating it while in the car, as it smelled so good. The Braised Pork over rice was decent. It was cut up thick pork belly, braised in an Asian brown sauce. The flavoring was a little one sided. (3 out of 5). I'm giving this place an overall 3 stars because the food isn't something to rave about. Packaging and presentation were great, but tastes was more important to me.

It's also has some good vegetarian options. First impression when you walk into this place...it's not your typical Chinese restaurant. The seats were these big comfortable chairs for the tables, and the booths looked to have comfortable looking benches. Plates had their logo on them. It just had a nice feel when you walk in. My family and I ordered five dish. Since we have one strict vegetarian (no fish) and others who eat meat, I'm going to break them down into a Veg and non-Veg group. Vegetarian - Stir Fried String Beans (5 stars) This is a simple dish, string beans stirred fried in a delicous sauce. - General Tso's Tofu (5 stars) When I think of General Tso's, I usually think of big battered fried chucks of a protein, instead this was your fried tofu (no batter from what I can tell) mixed with a spicy General Tso's sauce. General Tso's at other places in the area were a lot sweeter than this....and I liked the level of spice in this one. - Assorted Vegetables (5 stars) A simple classic healthy Chinese dish. Mixed vegetables in a white sauce. Non-Vegetarian - Salt and Pepper Fish (4 stars) Presentation of this dish looked nice. Pile high of fried fish with garlic, fried onions, green onions and other herbs. Although, it lacked a little flavor. You have to eat the fish with all the other stuff to get some flavor. If it had some more salt and pepper (either jalapenos or white peppers), this would had been a lot better dish. - Mango Chicken (5 stars) Surprising a very good dish. I expected a chicken dish with some mangos, and what we got was soft sliced chicken mixed with chunks of mangos, bell peppers and carrots, in a brown sauce. This was simply delicous dish. Overall, a great place to visit if you are in the area.

Friend ordered lobster bisque. Much later we were told they ran out. Told in a manner of "oh well" and a shrug by our disinterested server. I found our female server surly, unhelpful, and appeared like she had no interest whatsoever in doing her job as patrons were disturbing her day. She should have stayed home. Once my friend decided what she wanted to order, this server had the audacity to tell her what salad she was going to get. Not suggest. Tell! My friend did not want salad as the menu said there was the option was soup OR salad and she wanted and ordered the corn chowder, you know, since "they ran out of the lobster bisque." Our server apparently left. Took us a while to notice due to the lack of service which was all hurry up and wait. (The place was not crowded at all). Took forever to get our check. We never saw our server again. Another male server came by. We told him, twice, to split the check. Which he did not. As a reward for making the request, he brought over the incorrect check.
