SPICY TUNA CRISPY RICE... that's all I have to say about this place. If I had to recommend only one, it would be just that. Everything about it is perfection, but the only thing I would say is it can have tad more spice to it. Regardless, I would literally come here just to get a couple orders of it. My husband has tried out their rolls, and he enjoys them. I've only ever ordered the Chirashi and everything tastes fresh and I love the variety of the pieces of fish. Umami is close to the house so we have been going here for a while. Its been a go to great and convenient sushi place for quite some time. Servers are always great but they are sometimes understaffed so be patient. Everything we have ever had has been on point. Recently we found out that they fry everything in the same frier as their pork, so unfortunately it restricts what I can order. But they do accommodate us by modifying a hand full of items that we like to order. The service here was a little slow when we went for an earlier dinner but we had no complaints on the food! They have all day happy hour with menu price changes annotated for certain items. The pink lady roll was light and fresh and had significantly less heavy sauce (mayo/eel) than the other options on the menu. It seems like it's a popular choice for customers and I can see why. The coconut roll was a little too sweet for me personally so I wouldn't order it again but it wasn't bad. My tamago and unagi nigiri were standard and delicious, and the tamago piece was very large compared with the unagi bite. Overall, not a bad option for fresh sushi in the area! read more

Craving sushi on an early Saturday. We got quite a few items but began with an Agedashi Tofu for starter followed by a Philly roll, pink lady, and lone star rolls. The tofu was a good size for two people to share. The broth had a very nice flavor that we let the tofu soak up as we ate. The rolls were fairly good. The Philly rolls was your basic roll. The other two were great. I preferred the pink lady which had a nice kick from the sliced jalapeño on top. There weren't many patrons while we dined so service was perfect and we didn't have to ask for much as the server brought out things as we needed them. Overall the food food was good along with good service. I was looking for an eel based roll but I didn't see one. Hey there. Are you always looking for a good sushi spot that's close to home? Look no more. Sugarland has some amazing options for sushi such as keepers, and japaneiros. Umami by far is probably my favorite in the burbs. So good. Always hits the spot. Only thing is it's slightly more expensive then these other options but honestly it's worth it when you realize the quality of that fish is damn good. What we got- - Tuna Crispy rice- 10/10. Came with some yummy sauces on the side such as spicy mayo and eel sauce. They are not stingy on the sauces at all which makes it amazing, - King Salmon Sashimi- 10/10. Melted in my mouth. Was delicious. Didn't want it to finish but my husband ate it all. Only call it is it's 16$ for only 4 pieces :( - Angry Dragon Roll- 8/10. But I appreciate that they offer half rolls and full rolls so that the customers could try more varieties. I had the Nabeyaki Udon, Sake Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Scallop Robata, Wagyu Filet Mignon Robata, Sake Nigiri, Spicy Salmon Roll, LJ Pkwy roll, and Love Affair roll. The udon was ok. It had small cubes of chicken which were tough. The broth was a little salty. The sake sashimi and sake nigiri were fresh. The spicy tuna crispy rice was a fresh idea, a good dish. The scallop robata had too much sauce. Most of the flavor came from the sauce, thus I couldn't taste any sweetness which should come from the scallop. I am disappointed with the wagyu filet mignon robata. It was over cooked and tough. The rolls were good. Staff were polite and always checking in. Food was served pretty fast too. Good, but overpriced. The restaurant has a classier vibe, and is a good date night or family spot in Riverstone (I would not bring younger kids here). We ordered the halibut carpaccio, the nemo roll (I added cream cheese), udon, and shaggy dog roll. For the price, the portion size of the halibut carpaccio was extremely underwhelming. The 5 incredibly thin slices, although disappointing when brought out, tasted great. The rolls were good, but the udon left something to be desired. If budget is not a concern, this is a solid spot. The service was great, but I could get the same quality of food for much cheaper in Bellaire, so I will not be returning. read more

We managed to sneak in on a Wednesday a few minutes before happy hour ended and they were kind enough to do last call for us. Decently large selection of dishes, LOTs of roll options. The happy hour is from 12-6 pm so a huge window as I learned. As the other reviews say the portion of fish is well sized and way better quality than I was expecting. The roll we got was delicious (I'm blanking on the name) but had spicy salmon inside and white tuna on top. We also got some chicken karate which was not my favorite due to the texture. Not super crispy like a traditional karaage dish usually is. But the rest of what we got was very good. I think I have a new bang for your buck sushi place close to home. I would definitely wanna come during HH so I can try more things out. Service was okay, a tad slow for being slow on a Wednesday, but our servers were very nice. The attempt at it here I think goes overboard on other ingredients than places normally do, and as this is my favorite roll typically I was a little set back by this one. The cream cheese ruined it for me, and it also comes with avocados but I asked for that to be removed (should've also taken out the cream cheese but lesson learned). Kid friendly: - udon - chicken karaage Their Candy Cane roll was a hit amongst our group. Miso black cod was delicious. Avocado roll was simple but tasty (avocado and asparagus). Agedashi tofu was good! The udon was good- broth was on the salty side but it produced perfectly flavored noodles, and there are some vegetables in it as well as a piece of shrimp teriyaki, plus a bunch of chicken pieces (the chicken was dry though) Chicken robata was ok, I wouldn't get it again. I think I preferred the plain edamame. - Chicken Robata - comes topped with teriyaki. - Hokey Pokey, Spoonful, LJ Pkwy - I'm not a big fan of tuna though, so take this with a grain of salt. - Brussel sprouts - they come topped with sliced almonds. They're a bit dry though, could use more sauce. They have a large selection of sake. We opted for the Yukikage (Snow Shadow) which was good. They also gave us a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Our server was great. There wasn't a single thing we thought was not good. The kids, even the one who can't sit still through a meal, were happily eating til the end. That says a lot. Happy hour sushi specials were pretty decent. Service was eh. We had our 2 year olds water cup (it was in a daniel tiger cup, clearly for a child) with us and were told off by the server 'if the owner was here they would not allow it.' ummm we aren't trying to skimp of buying a drink, it is a spill proof cup for our kid as not all restaurants have them (it was the first time dining here). Did not like the way the server said it as it left a poor taste on the entire meal. They also don't leave soy sauce as the table and try to skimp on giving it to you. If you like terrible service this is your spot. The customer service is terrible as soon as you walk in. The girl that works the floor, bar and cash register is awful with customers. She seems to not want to service people of color who walk in her establishment. I gave this place two tries and I definitely won't be back. First attempt I wanted to order something to-go but she seemed bothered and took her time getting to me. Although the people who walk in behind me were serviced before me. Second attempt I wanted to dine in hoping to get a better experience. NOT AT ALL. She was the same. Didn't go over menu/lunch specials, didn't ask if I had any questions about the menu, didn't ask if I wanted to start with any starters and the list goes on. She was rushing me to make an order so she didn't have to deal with me. I ordered, food came and was decent although their soda was watery. She didn't ask if everything was okay or tasted well. Shortly after I would say 15 minutes into it she comes with my check. I asked for a to-go box (picture below) and she brings out the smallest box she has. It's unfortunate to have such a nasty attitude and give bad service to new customers who could be returning customers. I actually found this place from an influencer on social media because she highly recommended as one of her spots to order from and it looked really good. From my experience I wouldn't recommend coming here or ordering to-go. (Replying back to owner) Small business or big business...yes, you're initialed to your opinion even though you weren't there. She had Seaweed Salad, Avocado Roll and Sashimi, and I had Cucumber Salad, California Roll and Sashimi. We shared Tostada. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! I highly recommend getting the chef's premium sushi special. It was soooo good! It wasn't on the menu they gave us but I asked about it since I saw pictures of it on the here. 10 pieces of high quality sushi for around $50 so we felt like it was a really good deal. The robota skewers were good too and they were pretty big so that was a good dish to get for the kids since they didn't have a kids menu. The appetizer carpaccio we got was ok.
