So we're walking through the neighborhood at dinner time, and there's Fenicia. It's an honest-to-god neighborhood place with almost every table filled on a Tuesday night. There are wall TVs in the front and back -- football of course -- and the guy at the table next to us has his iPhone playing the evening news without EarPods or a headset. The ambience is just about as plain as a restaurant can be. They didn't waste a lot of time or energy on decor. What's the opposite of pretentious? That's Fenicia.
I'm pretty sure we were the only people in the restaurant who didn't live within a four-block radius.
The waiter turned out to be terrific, was super attentive and was friendly without being intrusive. The menu is pretty darn typical Argentinian food: steaks, milanesas, salads, fries.
Our meals were prepared just as we requested and came to the table hot. No heat lamps at Fenicia.
Two mains, two salads, three glasses of pretty darn good Malbec and bottle of mineral water for less than US$40.
And you know what? The food was as good as any meal we've had in Argentina either the exception of the super fancy Michelin star restaurant in Mendoza.
If you're in the neighborhood, give Fenicia a try. read more
