Quail buffalo style is a thing and it's damn crave worthy...I teetered between a 3 and 4 because of these, but it's not on the official menu. I made reservations for my husband and I on a Thursday evening. It certainly wasn't needed as it was fairly empty, but hey, I got my Opentable points. We arrived and stood at the front and waited, and waited. The two hosts were doing whatever it was they were doing by the kitchen area. I was getting aggravated. Why have a host stand? It finally took a server calling over to them to get their attention to seat us. We were then put in this awkward corner butting right up to a booth. We were practically speaking to the back of a women's head, and directly behind us was a group. With all the empty tables, you seat us here? She also didn't say much to us either, just plopped menus down and left. We ended up moving ourselves a table over so everyone wasn't in each other's conversation in the quiet space. So far it's not a good first impression, drinks were needed. I had the Prince Albert, and later the bronco old fashion thing. Both were delicious. Our actual server was excellent and super friendly. She convinced us of the buffalo style quail special. The rub on the quail was on point and the blue cheese cream stuff added the perfect balance to the crispy skin. We also had the smoky deviled eggs, wild rice cakes, and the Feller. The eggs were fine, it was missing the smoke, it didn't rock our world. The wild rice cakes were super crispy on the outside and moist on the inside...I was digging these, but we were missing sauce. The horseradish cream was the appeal for us ordering it, but there was a tiny smear of it. It could have been a home run with more of that horseradish stuff. That burger. Goddamn, that thing was good. This is the type of burger I daydream about, just your traditional all American burger. It came with shoe string fries. My husband hated their "fancy ketchup." It tasted like a thick Campbell's tomato soup. I agreed. Our server recommended their pesto aioli for dipping instead, that stuff was money, you need to sub your ketchup for this. While the drinks, quail, and burger was a hit, the service as far as timing was slow. If the place was packed I'd understand. But again, it was an empty place and it took more than an hour to dine here even though we ordered quickly. Overall, we enjoyed our food and we thought our server was phenomenal, I feel like she put our orders in quickly, but the rest of her team was slow. If you like very rich, heavily sauced/ or spiced food (not heat, just like every spice in the pantry), then this is the place for you. An Ahi tuna appie is placed atop an avocado purée, then topped with what I think was passion fruit, surrounded by 3 distinctly different sauces and (maybe) husk cherries with some potatoes chips on the side to scoop it all up. Net-net, we could barely find the tuna much less taste it. Also, my salad was swimming in dressing. They do have great meat options - and they're high quality and cooked perfectly. I can't stress that enough! Yet, my elk rack was topped with so much stuff (shallots, fried onions, smoked cherries) - all of which were interesting but way too much - that the main event is lost. I applaud the effort to get creative with flavors. But it's an expensive meal and I think I'd prefer if it were taken down a few notches and a bit more respect was paid to the meat. Firsts and second bites are delicious, but by the third it starts to feel excessive. All the desserts are decadent - no light options. I think those that think "some is good but more is better" will absolutely love this place. read more

Per usual, the service at Feller was not great. The server was not personable, hospitable, and very slow. We were scolded for bringing in our own bottle of wine. We have dined here several times since they have been in operation and have never had a good service. This could be a great restaurant because the food is actually really good, however, the consistently poor service ruins the overall experience. Only note: I think they could reduce their lighting by 25% and choose warmer bulbs to create the effect that the space suggests. We went here for our anniversary dinner. It is a great restaurant for a special occasion in that the environment is great, it's perfectly located in the nice downtown Stillwater area, attached to the very cute Lora hotel. The service is amazing and the wine list is very good. We also enjoyed the cocktails, well made and some fun unique ones. I give it 4 stars and not 5 because the cost of the food doesn't quite match the taste/flavor of the meal. Don't get me wrong, everything was good, but for the prices, we were expecting more. Here's a food breakdown: Walleye Fritters for Appetizer: the walleye was good and the ratio of fried part to walleye was Very generous. However, other than the natural good taste of the fish, it lacked flavor. My husband got the steak which was cooked perfectly, but he felt it was a significant amount of inedible fat. The butter it was served with was delicious though. I got the walleye, which was cooked perfectly! However, the flavors were hinted at being good, but were very subtle. We also got a side of potatoes and brussels. the Potatoes were amazing, gooey, cheesy, well seasoned, and delicious! The brussles were sort of soggy and the sauce it was in was pretty salty. All in all, it was good and we aren't regretting going here. But for the price, likely wouldn't return for dinner, maybe for a drink in between strolling around the adorable downtown. read more

The food was very tasty with a nice variety of feel-good comfort foods with some dare-to-be-different signature dishes -- and feedback among our group was mostly positive. Unfortunately, when you walk into a white tablecloth restaurant and pay $75/person (or more) you expect top-notch service and results. The service was slow, at best. Our drinks took nearly 15 minutes to arrive and wine glasses sat empty on numerous occasions. Nobody checked in with us until 5+ minutes after meals were delivered and the attention to detail was lacking. The restaurant wasn't overly busy and appeared to be well-staffed, so I can't figure out why service was so inattentive. Further, and this is a deal-killer, I had a long conversation with our waitress about my food allergy. She provided meaningful feedback and noted my allergy on the order. When the order arrived - she didn't say anything, but my instincts caused me to confirm...and I was again, assured, that she had made a note on my order and was fairly confident it was honored. She said she'd double check just to make sure. I had already eaten 50% of my plate at this point due to the slow service...and sure enough, there WAS dairy in my meal. Thankfully I didn't eat that particular item, but this could have been catastrophically bad. I shared my disappointment that such a mistake had been made, despite our long conversation -- and her assurances that my food allergy had been noted -- and hoped that I might receive some version of an apology or perhaps a discount on our (rather expensive) meal. No apology was offered. No discount was offered and, furthermore, the waitress profusely blamed the kitchen staff (bad team player). Very disappointing. Again, the food was pretty good -- but the slow/inattentive service and the lack of allergy awareness along with poor teamwork have likely lost me as a customer for life. read more

This review is for the patio only. We did not go inside. I will update this during our next stop to Feller when we dine inside. We were greeted by a smiling hostess as we walked up to the patio. (Feller is located on the south end of the main strip in Stillwater, in the ground floor of a hotel). The patio was standard with metal tables and chairs. Some umbrellas to add shade from the sun. There is a thigh high brick wall separating the sidewalk from the patio. We had our dog (Harley) with and the hostess had 100% gluten free, organic dog treats with her that are made locally at a store next door. She handed a couple down to Harley who was very impressed. Our dinner plans had us unexpectedly arriving during happy hour so we had an array of discounted options. Their tap menu was great with a bunch of hard to find beers from around the US. I went with a Belching Beaver DIPA from San Diego. It was perfect. We shared the trout fritters and burger. The fritters were fried to crispy perfection, but so light and airy. The Pesto aioli they sat on was packed with flavor and whipped to a perfect consistency. These were amazing. The burger, tho. Of course this is why we came here. The burger is a bit on the smaller size (think nighthawks or Saint Dinette). But smaller doesn't mean bad. The three meat house blend in the patty had a perfect seared crunch with a soft and slightly buttery/salty center. Topped with local American, b&b pickles, fried onions, and feller sauce- this burger rocked! It's sandwiched in a house made bun that held up perfectly without overpowering its contents. We will be back for this burger. One of the coolest things about our experience here was how the server treated our dog. She brought him water with ours. She asked if he'd like to enjoy a special from the happy hour menu when taking our order. The wild nettle spaetzle left cold (uncooked) was her recommendation. It was off menu and $5. Harley devoured it not caring about the dogs and people around him throughout our meal. (He is very social and has to meet everyone he sees, so having him focused on his treat was awesome). We left with smiling and full. This was without a doubt the best dining experience we have had in Stillwater. If you are in the area and want a perfect meal (burger or otherwise), skip Lolo and come here. read more

waited over hour for bre to be served and was served Luke warm. No silverware so had to wait for silverware, no condiments on table and had to ask and still forgot Jelly. Flapja soggy. We had asked for bacon and they came out with polish sausage then said they ran out of bacon instead of telling that before hand so maybe could make a separate choic. Got bill and a side of bacon was on there and got charged for an add on which never requested that was the polish sausage. I went in got bill corrected and they did take off for a meal and they automatically charged 4% for compliments whatever that is. Service needs just as much help as the food and they are overpriced and will not be back read more

We had already tried Feller for takeout during COVID, but we finally wanted to eat there in person. I'm so glad we did! We started with their mussels and they were arguably the best we've ever had. The grilled bread that it came with soaked in the liquid at the bottom was to die for. Dinner was the Feller burger (perfection) with delicious shoe string fries and the duck breast. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and the potatoes dauphinoise for sides. The brussel sprouts were out of this world. We ended our dining experience with the donuts! We left saying that it was one of the best meals and experiences we've had in a long time. You go for the food, but the atmosphere and ambiance are second to none. The space is just too cool - but not many restaurants are built into the side of a bluff. The historic caves from the old brewery are amazing. read more

Whaaaaat?! I'm shocked at the less-than-stellar reviews! I was able to dine at Feller last year and really enjoyed my meal and the service that accompanied it. I was seated on the patio and loved that it's not quite as busy as the central downtown area. The server was prompt and super helpful in helping decide what to order. I went with "The Feller" which was delicious. The burger tasted fresh rather than frozen and the bread & butter pickles that accompanied it were so freaking delicious that I'm still thinking about them all these months later. Stop into the bathroom if you have a chance. I know it's kind of a weird recommendation but it's *really pretty*, to the point that I took a literal video to model my future bathroom off of. read more

Went here for my birthday and luckily it was snowing unbearably outside so we were one of the only ones inside. Great cozy atmosphere with brick walls, wood accents and pillows to make you want to stay a while. We ordered drinks to start and they were delicious. My old Fashioned was very strong (in a good way) and Alex's Elderflower Gin Cocktail was the perfect amount of sweetness and had tons of flavor. For dinner, we both got a burger which I heard great things about so of course, I had to try it. The patty on this was nice and thick with perfectly melted house made American cheese covered the entire patty and bun. Unfortunately, the patty itself didn't have a lot of seasoning and needed more. Most of the flavor came from the house made American cheese, caramelized sweet onions, and delicious Feller sauce. The bun (different from when they first opened) was a tad dry and large but was buttery and toasted nicely. Very poor service. I recommended Feller to my mom for a celebration over a late lunch with a 2:30 reservation. The waitress was quick to ask us for drink and food orders, for both we needed a couple of minutes to look. We each ordered a drink and split 2 things. We did not hear another word until long after our drinks, food and water were empty. No refills or questions regarding further ordering were asked. There were 1-2 other tables during our meal. I looked around several times and no one was to be seen. Once the waitress resurfaced we asked for dessert and our check, although I was ready to walk out. There weren't many vegetarian options listed explicitly on the menu, but upon asking our waiter, she kindly asked the chef if he would be willing to prepare something for my sister and I, and it did not disappoint! Had a great meal here the other night for the 5 of us. I have never been to Stillwater, so I assume this is expensive for this town, but the reality is that it's actually very well priced for the ingredients and quantity. I would definitely come back and would recommend this anyone. The service was great, however it was pretty empty so I didn't feel like I was fighting for attention. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. If you want or expect formal service, then maybe this will be a little informal for you, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and honest banter with the staff. They also invented a delicious drink for my friend that only drinks Mezcal. Also, it's hard to know exactly what is informal vs covid stuff. They dropped the plates and silverware in a pile instead of placing it out. Again, if you expect formal service, this could be disappointing. For me, attentive knowledgably staff that didn't make mistakes and made changes at our request is way more important to me. For instance, we got the crostini app which had 4 crostini's but we had 5 people. She immediately said she could add a 5th for $2 and it was out in minutes. The food was all really good with no real misses. If you are worried about the cost, then stay away from the pricey protein mains. The bread apps, and desserts were big and cheap. The elk dish was great. I don't know how fatty elk is, but I have a feeling it was braised about as well as possible. And it had a LOT of bone marrow. Maybe I would try braising it at a lower temp, but I've also never cooked elk and don't know if it could be better! I would highly recommend this dish. The walleye main was delicious, but a bit small. Can't complain though as it was balanced and well composed. The game hen special was OK. It was a bit over cooked for my taste but I could see a lot of people getting freaked out if its not over cooked. I personally wouldn't order this because I would expect it to be overcooked. The sauce was tasty (sautern is very sweet so its sweet) and the mushrooms were great albeit re-used from those great crostinis. I would not put them on the skin though as it makes it soggy. The brussel sprouts side was OK. Some were cut and some where whole? It was also roasted but soggy? Not bad tasting, but not amazing. Also, the pasta tasted good but the composition was off. Not a pasta place though. The desserts were awesome and really cheap. 5 doughnuts for $7?! Great idea since desserts are generally cheaper ingredients and you keep the customer around having drinks and leaving a good impression. The "dacquoise" was delicious, but not a dacquoise. I highly recommend you get it. Carmel was nailed. I don't know anything about the scene in Stillwater, but I have to assume this is the best new-american food in town. It's also priced about as cheaply as I could imagine for the ingredients being used. If I come back to town, I would probably go back here for other stuff. read more

I have to say I was super impressed with Feller, I was expecting it to be snooty because it looks like a Restoration Hardware store on the inside. We had a bit of a rocky start when we were awkwardly waiting for nearly 10 minutes before the hostess greeted us, but it was smooth sailing from there. The menu is small, everything is made from scratch, it is beautiful inside and they have outdoor seating. The trout fritters were absolutely indulgent, crispy on the outside, decadent on the inside seated on a creamy pesto sauce. The Feller salad displayed a great range of flavors but was just a little too bitter for my palate. The dressing was delicious. The hammer was an upscale ham and cheese sandwich unlike any you've probably had before. No Oscar Meyers here, it is ham, salami and salumi coupled with mozzarella and balance with a zesty pesto sauce on a soft freshly baked baguette. Really phenomenal! It reminded me of the Iberian ham sandwiches we had in Spain. Our server was attentive and friendly and I thought prices were very reasonable considering the quality of food. read more

Finally had a chance to try this hot new entry to the Stillwater food scene. This is definitely not another bar or gastropub; this is a high-end 3-course meal restaurant, and expect to pay accordingly. But it's so worth it. First time here this morning. I splurged on Eggs Benedict. They were done just right! Substantial, crispy English muffin, a thin slice of ham, and perfectly poached eggs smothered in yummy hollandaise, served with a tasty mound of lightly dressed friseé salad, which was a delicious green complement to the richness of the dish. The space is sunny and pleasant, and service was just right; friendly and attentive but not intrusive or hovering. I will be back! read more

It was a beautiful and busy Saturday, November evening so I was worried we wouldn't get into the restaurant I found online on our drive to Stillwater. But we did! We were warmly welcomed even though I think we came in the wrong door and allowed to sit where we wanted. Nice cocktail list. The Palermo is awesome! And even though there's not many options on the menu it was great food and sweet prices! We ordered probably half of the menu and enjoyed it all! Especially the walleye fritters! They were Devine! Zachery was our waiter and he was very attentive. Excellent service. He checked in when he should, cleared empty plates and glasses each time, and even ended the night with a funny "dad joke". My wife and I were in Stillwater on a day-trip celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. It was a great day with great weather! Feller had been recommended, so we stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere was nice - as we sat by the large windows in the front of the restaurant. We were greeted nicely, and our waitress was friendly. We ordered the forager's crostini for an appetizer. It was exceptional. It was a unique blend of tastes, as the ingredients combined into a delicious starter. This is where I became disappointed. Once the waitress came to clear our plates, we both left our silverware on the plates. Our waitress asked if we wanted to keep our silverware. We both took our fork and knife and sat there holding them. What were we to do? Put our used silverware on the table? This is my pet peeve!! A nice restaurant should always train their servers to bring a fresh set of silverware between servings. Maybe minor - but it bugs me. We split a Rueben and the Feller burger. Both were quite good. The waitress showed up as we were taking our last bites and asked how our food tasted. It was good that everything was fine and we had no other needs! Otherwise we would have had to hail down a waitress. I guess I'm being picky, because overall it was a positive experience. Just can't pull out the 5-star rating. read more

Unfortunately the rest of our dinner just wasn't seasoned well (country ribs, sunchoke risotto, cucumber salad with the halibut). The halibut itself was drenched in a very spicy sauce (which I did like on its own) that drowned out any hint of delicate flavor from the fish. I really wanted to love this restaurant, but they missed on so many things. The customer service was good, the food was not worth the $400 bill. I will gladly pay for good food, but this just wasn't. The appetizers were cold. The calamari was not crisp, just soggy and Luke warm. The chili shrimp had great flavor, but the yucca with it was cold, shrimp not hot. We had 5 of us with, no one was impressed. 2 ordered the Waygu, the said it was good not great. 2 ordered the Elk, 1 of them wanted the sea bass but they were out of it already. With a 5:15 reservation on a Monday we found that very odd. Did they even have it? It was on the daily specials menu, hmmm. The Elk was a little over, and needed salt. I ordered the Bison Ribeye, medium rare. It was rare cold, and sides were ice cold. How is everything cold? Isn't it just heating up prepped ahead sides? Sent Bison back, still came out under, will attach picture of it after sending it back, and sides still not even warm. When the most expensive item can't be prepared right, why go back? We skipped dessert and walked down to the ice cream shop instead, just couldn't give them any more money. Will not be recommending Feller to anyone, and will not be going back. read more

They have an interesting enough menu. My problem with the entire place is it really needs to be cleaned and spiffed up. The entire place is dank, dark, and on the dirty side and it's not because it's partially in a cave. The tables were not wiped off and the floor was really a mess. I had higher hopes for this establishment because it really is a cool location and looks like it should be kept up. Also, I noticed inconsistency with the wine glasses that are being utilized. A lady at the bar had a gorgeous glass to drink her wine out of and I was served a very pedestrian glass for mine. We were both drinking white so not sure why but this is the shit that I notice and damn it I want the fancy glass too. read more

My wife and I went to Feller for Valentine's Day, as it was one of the few places in town we could get a table at a time that would work for us. We arrived for our 5:30 reservation and was seated promptly next to the windows; nice view of the street, albeit, we were surprised that the place was mostly empty. The decor was pretty cool and eclectic, while very comfortable. We also liked the view into the bar (Long Goodbye), which was very attractive as well. Clearly this restaurant is under the radar as every good restaurant in the valley was booked solid. When ordering, we let the server know that my wife was vegetarian. Strangely, she had to go find a menu where they had hand written what was gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan. Most good restaurants have that kind of information printed right on the menu. Kind of tacky, we thought. Unfortunately, there weren't any vegetarian entrees so she constructed her meal with Bruschetta ($9), the fire baked cheese ($13), and the smokey deviled eggs ($5). I ordered the Stringer Sorting (aka salmon and potatoes), for $21. The fire baked cheese came with a nice assortment of breads and crackers -- just the right amount for the cheese. The cheese wasn't anything special though, but was filling. The deviled eggs weren't smokey as their name suggested, nor very seasoned. (I make better!). The Bruschetta was the best app, as it was very creative, tasty item. My salmon was nicely cooked, but the serving size was quite small, and the amount of potatoes could have fit into my palm. I liked the sauce though; it was a nice addition for both the fish as well as the potatoes. I would have preferred to pay an extra $6 or $7 and gotten a better sized portion. We skipped dessert for better fare elsewhere. I doubt we'll return even though we liked the decor. read more
