Parking review. Gone are the days of getting a paper ticket…read moreat a Pike & Rose garage or paying cash at a machine. Nowadays, their machine setup is a bit different. I recently took a visit to one of the spots within Pike & Rose and when I rolled into one of their garages to grab a ticket at the entrance, I was caught off guard. Not only was there no button to press for a ticket; I noticed the setup was completely different to when I last saw it (I don't visit very often). The screen prompted me to enter my phone number, but since I was new to this whole setup, I decided to bypass that prompt entirely. It showed me as being anonymous and I noticed a 4-digit code popped up on the screen for me to remember. As I parked, I quickly noted the code and the time I entered. After taking care of things, it was time for me to head out. As I proceeded to leave (ready with the 4-digit code it gave me earlier), and pulled up to the garage exit, I noticed the bar to the gate rose up without me doing anything. So, I left. It wasn't until later I realized it must have scanned my license coming in and leaving. Good to know. I did a little research and found some FAQs located here: https://www.vendpark.io/property/pikeandrose. Visited July 2025

There is shopping at Gap, Sur La Table, LL Bean, Uniqlo, and Blue Mercury. There are movies and tons of place to grab desserts, like Sunday Morning Bakehouse or The Baked Bear. Depending on where you are shopping you can get some good deals or some expensive meals. So,the value depends on where you visit. Service at each of the places I have gone to is good. I could spend a day shopping and eating at Pike and Rose and then, go see a movie. If you haven't stopped by I would give them a try. : )

I'm going to be honest, I had no idea there was a mall in this highway triangle. I thought the…read morespace between where I-270 and I-495 met had nothing in it. I've only seen the area from the highways that are tree lined. I am quite amazed by how out of touch I was for this area. This mall is quite expansive. The one thing I love about the DMV area is that the malls are still thriving. Not to the point where every single store is filled, but no where near dead mall territory. I had some time to kill before I had to head back home and wanting to pick up some items. Parking here had me. I wasn't sure where would be the best place to park. I ended up in the outdoor lots and didn't even want to mess with the parking structure. As a note, early here means you will encounter a slew of parents with their children in tow. Be careful and mindful in the parking lot as they will be everywhere. The mall had a bit of everything in here. The typical anchors and national chains you would expect to find in a mall. Food court area was jammed with eateries and customers. I opted to not eat here. Would definitely come back. Especially on a lazy day. Good people watching, enough stores to grab whatever you might be thinking of getting, and ample parking.

The food court is always packed with people with many different choices. The restaurants available inside the mall is always interesting. I saw a new Thai takeaway place downstairs near where Claire's used to be. The selections of the store keeps evolving. I had no idea Lululemon moved and has a bigger store now. It's hard to believe that the malls in America are dying when you see how crazy busy it is at the Mall. I couldn't find parking until I parked closer to the old Sears lot. And that was during a weekday well after Christmas and New Year's too. My nickname at work used to be the Mall Rat Haha! I can't wait to discover what new stores are coming and going the next time I return.

Note: Parking is a bear (mostly because there are also a lot of lousy drivers that come here plus the spaces are tight).

Barns&Nobles was the main attraction for this shopping area with Starbucks being an added bonus. People then traveled to other spots of this shopping center. Chick Fill-A was the newest building to be added before I moved to Virginia.  I never saw the grand opening, but I did try the chicken the next time I was in town. Last weekend I was back in Rockville area and saw the Barns&Nobles sign wasn't present.  I saw the Starbucks Coffee sign and started wondering if Barns&Nobles went out of business.  I did not notice that the business had moved to Congressional Plaza.  Why the move? Could be a number of reasons.   I remember when Montrose Crossing went by another name, but just like the name Berenstein Bears, it no longer exists.  I also don't remember the name it use to be called. My mom loved shopping at Marshlls for clothes and whatever else she could find. As a kid, I found shopping for clothing very boring.   Yes, most male kids and some females too found shopping for clothes boring.  Now I am left with memories from a time I would go shopping with my mom.  As the song goes, "you don't what you got till it's gone."  Yes, those were good times, even if I did not see it that way at the time.  Without the Barns&Nobles to headline the main attraction,  I think the decline for this shopping area will show up bigtime during the summertime of 2021. Time will tell.

But some of the shops here are still overpriced and honestly, for some reason, a portion of the clientele who shop here are (I hope unintentionally) rude ... from parking to not wearing masks to cutting in lines (social distancing accounts for gaps, folks!!!) I might then  walk over to the Tower Records and buy a movie soundtrack or a necklace.      These two places  were high on my list. There even use to be a movie theater here, but that went the way of the dodo. Speaking of going the way of the dodo, Tower Records also went that way too. The space for the old Tower Records has been taken up only to shutdown two times that I can remember.  Today I learned that Barns&Nobles has taken up residence there. Even though it is only one floor,  the space is huge.  Tower Records had some problems filling the space, but they did it with the jewelry section, the adult videos/magazines section and the standard magazine sections.   I think Barns&Nobles won't have a problem filling the space.  I know there is a Starbucks store at Congressional Plaza akready,  but I have a feeling another one might be added inside the Barns&Nobles store at some point...if there isn't one already. I will have to check out this plaza the next time I am in town. I wanna see the inside of this Barns&Nobles; as well, as other areas of the plaza.
