It was a silk floral arrangement that needed to be contained in a box without the flowers on top being crushed, or the vase on bottom getting broken. Aaron did some serious magic....it involved gluing one box into another box, putting padding in between the two ... securing the vase to the bottom, and creating an inviolable chamber on top for the flowers to breathe in...making sure that if the box was thrown around in transit, everything would be safe. And it was. Truly amazing. They are also very nice to deal with. I really prefer going to this small, personal, thoughtful place where they take the time to problem solve, where they are sensitive to costs, and where they execute extremely well.

The process was really stressful and rushed due to so many customers being crammed into a tiny store waiting to be helped. The associate was impatient and did not give me time to closely measure the prints, and the ruler they gave me to verify the photo measurements was beat up and inaccurate. The photos ended up being the wrong size and poorly lit. Total waste of $20. When I emailed the store asking for a resolution, I received a really dismissive response. Avoid at all costs.

I'll take accountability in saying that I visited within the last 15 minutes before closing…read more I came in with a large box that I struggled to bring in due its size and weight, waited in line for most of this time slot, got to the counter and was demeaningly advised that they couldn't accept my box because it required more tape. I asked if it was possible if I could buy a few strips of tape from them and they declined--that's fine, because perhaps they're not allowed, nor it is their job. I then asked if I could leave the box on the side of the counter or on the floor (pushed to the side) so I could run out to the car and grab my tape, they stated I am not allowed to do that because they cannot be responsible for my package. While I understood that, I asked if they could please make a one time exception being that the box was a struggle to bring in, and my car is just right outside the facility; the answer was still no. At this point, it's about 4-5 mins before closing, I brought the box out to the car, wrapped it in tape like spider-man would wrap you in webs. It wasn't necessarily the taping that took up most of the time, but rather the transportation of the box itself. Once I got back into the store, it was about one minute before close. Another person before me was finishing up as I walked back in, I got to the counter and I was told they cannot service me with shipping my box because they're now closed. I asked if they could please allow me to ship it as it was literally the last day I had available before a move out of state, and he said "No". I had visited this store in particular because of their hours and convenience..or so I thought. These guys here are just merciless in the fact that they watched me have a hard time and seemed to have never had the intentions of being of service to begin with. I understand it's a busy location, but projecting any frustrations that come with such, onto people is unacceptable. Abusing your power is inhumane, shadowed by undertones of disrespect and then passing it off as just doing your job. Please keep in mind that parking, or lack-there-of, is like playing a game of duck-duck-goose. Which was what partly left me with that 15 min time slot, as I circled around the block countless times to catch a spot close enough to make it possible for me to bring that box in. Had I not gotten that spot, there would've been no way I could carry it into the store from a longer distance. In any case, there are really fun and cool places to eat around the area; maybe explore a little if you're ever feeling adventurous.

I finally understand how and why when I took a field trip to surplus myself. Essentially, it's a warehouse of furniture, electronics, cars, antiques, and other random things like faux plants that are no longer in use by the university. Once removed from university grounds, they are taken to this warehouse in Point Breeze and sold for cheap or auctioned off to the general public or university personnel. When I went there, there were several types of chairs including theatre chairs, tables, and more. I recently bought a 19" Dell monitor for $25.00. I was told to just bring the monitor back if I had any issues and they'd just replace. The monitor works perfectly. Office chairs ranged from about $20-60. Larger items like old university cars are auctioned off. It's a really cool place and you'd be really surprised by what you find especially the price! Once I move into my new apartment, I plan to go back to surplus to see what I can find. Because why break the bank with all new furnishings?!?!
