Auction purchase the auction house dropped off the items to the shipper a 13-in square box containing a 5-in glass bowl in a 3-in figure weighing less than 5 lb they charged me $127 to pack and ship cross country with FedEx. I found myself in an unusual situation -- I had 8 cartons of books I needed to ship to a warehouse, but the warehouse only accepted shipments that were on pallets. As it turns out, FedEx won't do palletizing for you, and UPS farms the work out at a pretty exorbitant premium. So, I had to go searching for a near-Pittsburgh freighter that would handle the palletizing and shipment for me on short notice. Pak Mail really came through for me. While the shipment was still somewhat costly for its relatively small size, it wasn't at all out of line with other companies that offer similar service. However, Pak Mail really excels in keep the customer updated with shipping, tracking, and quality-control follow-ups. Even once the shipment had arrived, they took the time to check in and make sure I was satisfied. If you have random freight shipping needs, I'd recommend these guys for sure. read more

It was gorgeous! A 1951 Seeburg 100B jukebox. Fully restored. So I bought it. Problem was how to get a fragile piece of equipment packed and shipped across the country? I found Pak Mail on Yelp with great reviews so I contacted them. They carefully packed it, put protective film on the glass surfaces, wrapped it, put cardboard around it, palletized it, and even put a pyramid sign on top with "Do Not Stack." It arrived in perfect condition. Plugged it in and Rocked Around the Clock. I figure if Pak Mail can ship something that specialized they can probably ship just about anything. Great job! read more

i am so VERY impressed with the service these guys offer! they are friendly, professional, and amazingly helpful. i had a number of pieces of furniture belonging to my grandma in pittsburgh that i wanted shipped to my home in vancouver, canada. after getting a number of other quotes, pak mail offered a way better rate. they are honest when they say 30-40% better, i'd say even more so. i spoke to anna on the phone, and later with mike, and they were always friendly and courteous. after i decided to go with them, they were prompt in picking up the items. they told me it would take about a week to get to canada, and they were bang on. when i received the items they had been EXPERTLY packed (there were some fragile marble table tops that i was worried about) and everything arrived as good as new! mike contacted me to make sure i had been called my customs to let me know it was in canada, and then emailed twice to follow up and make sure it was all good. i have never had a shipping company take so much time or care to insure you got great service, all at a VERY fair price, on time, in perfect condition, all with outstanding customer relations! i doubt i'll ever need to move anything from pittsburgh again :O( but i would not for a second hesitate to recommend them. in this day and age of impersonal, indifferent customer care and mediocre service, these guys really stand out. thank you so much for everything! read more

I am not a prolific Yelper but I occasionally will write a review, mostly when a business goes above and beyond what I expected. Pak Mail is one such business, starting with owner Michael's flexibility and sensitivity toward our situation (shipping deceased parents' belongings across the country.) The items -- including large paintings and other artwork -- arrived in Los Angeles from Pittsburgh very quickly and in perfect condition. Not so much as a scratch on anything. And, as I joked to Michael afterwards, I now have enough bubble wrap and styrofoam to recycle and use pretty much forever. Admittedly, I did not have time to do any comparison shopping, but the price seemed reasonable to me for the pick-up, packing, storage and delivery. For my one-year temporary work assignment out of state, I had too much stuff to take with me in the car (or even a U-Haul trailer) and not quite enough for the typical minimum imposed by interstate movers. So I tried Pak Mail. It really fit what I needed. Mike MacDonald, who is a consummate professional, took care of everything for me. I thought at first he would just be my contact and the person who does the scheduling, but he came himself with two other guys to do packing and to drive my stuff back to their facility. He called me promptly to report the weight and cost, and then he followed up by informing me when my shipment had left the departure depot and when it had arrived at the depot near my new address. As I was re-assembling various things in my new home, I had trouble finding a few parts. I called Mike, and he responded very promptly by reminding me how those parts were secured when they were packed. Then, I found that two small items had been damaged in the packing or the transport (hence, four stars instead of five). Not only did Mike agree to reimburse me for replacement value, but he did so without demanding receipts for proof of purchase. Admittedly, he probably did this because these were inexpensive items, but still it's a sign of professionalism. This is a reliable and professional operation that I'd recommend, especially if you are working with Mike MacDonald. The prices aren't cheap, but they aren't totally outrageous either. read more
