Reese's flurry.
Sara S.

Cute small-town ice cream shop with a hometown feel. Feather N' Fin has been around for a long time. It's changed hands a few times, but it's always been a family-run type of business for as long as I can remember. I believe it still is even though the ownership has evolved throughout the years. Despite that, not a lot has changed about Feather N" Fin over the years, particularly when it comes to quality and service. The prices are still average for the area and ice cream cream is still scooped with a smile. The menu has changed somewhat, but not a lot. They still serve up large single ice cream scoops, have blended flurries and plenty of flavors (the exact number of which I'm not sure, but it's a lot). They now sell Fireside Coffee, which I think is a new thing, but I've never ordered coffee here, so I'm not 100% certain when they started doing that. The Ashby's ice cream is good and the portion sizes are ridiculous- scoops of ice cream are pretty much twice the size one would expect for the same amount of money. That's a good value, especially for a family. Oh, and it never starts melting as soon as you get it, no matter how hot it is. Trust me, I've been there when the heat index was 98. As for the flurries, they are big, but not as good as I would have expected. To be honest, a McDonald's flurry is blended better, but mine was still decent, just not as good as I would have liked. To be fair, they have two kinds of Reese's Flurries- one with plain vanilla ice cream and one with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream mixed in. I ordered the former and probably should have gotten the latter. It was still good, just not as chunky and filled with Reese's topping as I'm used to. They do charge extra for credit card transactions. I don't like that. There's no reason why they owners don't just do what every other small business (especially every restaurant, bar, farmer's market kiosk, and food truck in Flint) does and switch to using an Intuit card reader or get an Ipad for credit card transactions at a lower rate. I bet their foot traffic would tick up if they did that. I know how much I greatly dislike spending money at any business that either charges extra for credit card use or is cash only. I only stop in if I have cash on hand and am willing to spend it in the moment. Service is great- very friendly, even downright personable. I can tell that likely none of the employees are from Flint- they're too nice! They're not too chatty, nor are they cold and robot-like. The staff actually acts like they enjoy their work. Maybe there are free ice cream perks involved? Who knows? At any rate, the employees seem to go out of their way to make everyone feel like family. This is definitely a small-town ice cream shop. Rarely do I see that kind of service on the regular in a larger, urban city. There are plenty of shady areas to sit and eat outside, too. They have tables and even a covered pavilion area out back, large enough to accommodate large groups, too. That's a plus.

Best chocolate malt I've ever had. Great prices. I'm extremely picky about my chocolate and this was just awesome.

Fireside Coffee Company - Island Vibe coffee

On a road trip Saturday we decided to stop in Swartz Creek for coffee and checked out for the first…read moretime Fireside Coffee. My daughter picked it because it had good reviews on google....we actually passed by it at first as the area it's in wasn't where you'd typically envision a coffee shop. The owner either lives in front of it or next door to it(..?) so there's a house in front. Anyway-went to the back behind the house & found the parking lot. There was a small patio area attached to the back of building where some people were sitting. You actually enter through the back also, with a pretty ordinary entrance. Was surprised at how cute it was inside, even though it's small. Not a whole lot of indoor seating-that was full and only about 6 people able to sit(?) It was definitely less than 10. So that was disappointing as it was really hot & humid Saturday. But-they had things for sale like shirts, cups, coffee. Even a section that they sponsored a local artist from Flint that I thought was nice. The 2 employees were very kind. Great customer service. I got the "Island Vibes" iced drink they were promoting and it was really good. I could taste the coconut and lavender so I was happy about that. My daughter wasn't as impressed with her drink-it was a hot latte with some marshmallow flavor. She said she couldn't taste the marshmallow flavoring. They have a small room for conferences if you want a coffee spot for a meeting. There seemed to be a larger area for their own offices....so I'm just wondering if this is a fairly new place just starting out recently or in the past year or so. Overall, cute store. Employees make it worth a trip back sometime if I'm going that way. Enjoyed my coffee. Seating though would make it difficult to go back there on a cold or rainy day as there's not a lot of seating.

Food are delicious, service people are friendly and welcome nice and cozy atmosphere.read more

Pretty decent to grab a coffee and snack…read more This place opened not too long ago. The building was once a doctor's office of some kind and you can kinda spy how the layout was and what has and has not changed since its transformation into a cafe. The outside still looks slightly like an old doctor's office, but the owners really went a long way in making the most of the location and renovating it into a nice little coffee shop for the local area. It's located right by the corner of a major subdivision, so the neighbors really must be pleased to have a cafe so close by to grab coffee or tea on their walks or while jogging, or simply on their way to work in the morning. The ambiance inside is cozy, but you can definitely tell it was once a doctor's office (you can see how the old office was laid out- waiting room, reception desk, offices in the back, etc), but it doesn't They sell Fireside Coffee here and and the usual smoothies, lattes, mochas, teas, pour over coffees, etc, as well as a limited line of fresh baked pastries, bagels and muffins, plus some iced beverages, like Red Bull and whatnot. I ordered an iced Salted Caramel Latte, but wound up getting a hot version of the same drink instead because the girl waiting on me misheard me. She quickly realized the mistake and offered to remake me a new iced drink, though I said it was okay and just took the already made drink because it wasn't a big deal to me. Iced, hot, whatever, I didn't really care, so it was fine. My husband ordered a traditional mocha. Both were excellent. We had no real complaints. Customer service, other than the small hiccup concerning my drink, was excellent. The barista was super nice and chill. She pointed out the retail section of the store, where they sell Chill Coffee Cafe branded gear, including t-shirts, mugs, bags of coffee, and more. The free WI-FI signal was strong and didn't interfere with the apps on my phone (some places have super sketchy WI-FI connections and it's preferable to pass on the free WI-FI). The cafe had a nice, quiet area in the back, with comfy chairs, a fireplace and a big screen TV. Further back, they had a private meeting room where they apparently host a children's event every week on the weekends. Up front, there was another seating area near the counter, with plenty of charging stations for phones, tablets and laptops. In other words, it's a perfect place to work while on the go or just chill and relax sipping a latte.

Cute coffee shop…read more We dropped in for some coffee drinks recently. They were prepared very nicely by the friendly barista. I liked the space, it was cozy and inviting and a nice place to work or study. Pricing is comparable to most other coffee shops in the area, but the menu is a little limited. I would like a bit more variety, but this is still a new business. Maybe once they have perfected things they'll offer more? Anyway, it's a decent place to get coffee and read or get some work done. I'm glad it's close and on my way to work.
