Allan Cruz, FC Cincinnati's leading goal scorer (MLS play) as of April 2021.
    Daniel B.

FC Cincinnati is one of the newest teams in Major League Soccer, joining MLS beginning with the 2019 season. The team was a member of the USL (United Soccer League) three seasons prior. In its first two full seasons in MLS, the club has finished last in both the Eastern Conference standings and overall league standings. Obviously, not a good start. As a new expansion team, it's possible to have success right away. An example that comes to mind is Atlanta United FC who won the MLS Cup in only the club's second year of existence (2018). It's also hard to win right out the gate as a new team in any sport, so Cincinnati's results thus far aren't surprising. The team's president is Jeff Berding. Before joining FC Cincinnati in 2015, he worked for the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals for over 19 years. His last title with the Bengals was Director of Sales & Public Affairs. Before that, he worked as a Cincinnati city council member for over five years. The team owner is Cincinnati-based American Financial Group co-CEO Carl Linder III. Midfielder Allan Cruz is currently the franchise leader in goals scored. Forward/midfielder Yuya Kubo led the team in goals scored (3) in 2020. Both Cruz and Kubo played for their national teams, Costa Rica and Japan, respectively. FC Cincinnati is the first MLS club for both. FC Cincinnati's home is TQL Stadium which opened in West End this year, brand new for the 2021 season. The stadium was built for FC Cincinnati and has a seating capacity of 26,000, making it one of the biggest soccer-specific venues in MLS. In 2021, season tickets started at $325 and went up to $900 for 17 home games. Favorable fan pricing. Not to be confused with FC Cynthia-Nasty, which is named after a really bad girl I know named Cyndi. Cincinnati are brand new team in MLS, and immediately are creating a very intense rivalry with Columbus, who have been around forever. Part of the rivalry comes from the political differences: Columbus is more left wing, and Cinci is the only large city on Ohio that is fairly Republican - shame on them. It's a natural rivalry it from two cities that are just down the highway from each other, the two cities that often get overlooked in Ohio terms, which tends to focus mainly on Cleveland and NE Ohio since it's such a major urban center. So I welcome it very much, and I think it's a great idea to give Ohio a second-team so that they can be rivals and create a real competition between the two. Having said that, they haven't really established themselves as of yet, and I think that they'll have a long way to go in order to do so. Columbus is a founding member and has so much history already - Cinci has none. But I hope they manage to do that and I give them lots of credit in their attempts to become an MLS Powerhouse like Columbus Crew have been on and off for a long time.

The new TQL stadium is impressive. To watch the game, there is not a bad seat in the house. As season ticket holders that attended games at Nippert, we are impressed all around. Finally, I'm not waiting 10-15 minutes for a beer or to use the restroom. The beer selection and food options are a thousand times better. In the First Financial Club, the beers on tap and atmosphere is terrific. The food is okay in the club. I tried smothered fries and the fries were terribly over cooked. The brisket on top was good though. On the main concourse, my husband got Buffalo chicken nachos and they were very good. Looking forward to full capacity in the near future. Even at 1/3, the Bailey is loud. At full capacity, it will rock this place.

Why have I not gone to a game sooner? I'm a big sports fan but have never really been into soccer. I finally went to a pre-season FC game and loved it! The sports action was great and really the crowd made it so much fun! Felt like I was at a big time World Cup event! If there was that much energy pre-season I can't wait to go to some games that count! I am definitely hooked! This team is truly what the city needs, as long as they can stave off the Cincy sports curse!

This one has a special place in my heart and I must say up front, I had never been a soccer fan in the past. I had never played as a kid, watched it on TV, nor ever had been to a match. In fact, I didn't even know the rules for the most part. That was in 2016. We signed up our little boy who had turned 3 to a coed soccer team at the YMCA. In an attempt to understand the game and be able to teach him we started watching broadcasts together of the FC Cincy games on TV. From then on I was hooked and started regularly attending matches. The first thing to know is, soccer can actually be exciting to watch! At the time of this review, FC Cincinnati has won a bid to move from the USL into the MLS, the difference is the equivalent of moving from Florence Freedom to Reds MLB. This was not an arbitrary thing. Something magical happened in Cincinnati with its supporters. The team routinely draws 20,000+ loyal fans per game so when you are there, every game has a World Cup or playoff feel. For around $20 you can join one of the various supporter groups like the Pride, Die Innenstadt, Auxilia One, or Bailey Bastards to name a few. They meet up for drinks and meeting and hanging out together before matches. If you want to feel like a real soccer hooligan you can take part in the groups march in before the match where they all meet up and march into Nippert Stadium as one, flags and TIFOs waving and megphones roaring with team chants. "FC CINCY! THE ORANGE AND BLUE! THE BAILEY SINGS, AS ONE FOR YOU!" While the team will be moving into an MLS stadium in 2021 (currently being built), right now matches are hosted at Nippert Stadium, where the UC Bearcats play collegiate football in the heart of the University of Cincinnati campus. One thing of mention, there are no bad seats/views at Nippert. General admission tickets are only $10! (will increase slightly in MLS). If you want to really feel the roar and excitement at the highest level, you can sit in the section called "The Bailey" at the one end of the field. This is where the most raucous and enthusiastic fans stand, chant, play drums, light blue and orange smoke bombs and truly become the 12th man on the pitch! The best part about this club is the accessibility and family friendliness. You can take any age kid to a match and know they will be safe, have fun, and not get into a fight or covered in beer like at a Bengals game. Even at a large rivalry match, like when they play Louisville, you will be hard pressed to see anyone swearing (outside of the Bailey). You can also bank on knowing that in around 90 minutes, the match will be over, unlike baseball or football. After matches conclude, kids and fans can go down to the wall that separates the stands from the field and as the players finish their showers, they will come back out on the field and sign autographs and take pictures with the fans, sometimes for over an hour. In a nutshell, this is what makes FC Cincinnati so great. It is an exciting, family friendly atmosphere, fan interaction and involvement, accessibility to players, and right now, a team that has not lost a game in the last 3 months! (Compare that to anything in Cincinnati called a sports team). Tall cans of beer are $9, but you can bring in 1 bottle of water per person and we have brought snacks for the kids and other things in without any hassle from security. This team has a special place in my heart. I have gotten to know the team members and staff, my son has gotten to play on the field and meet players via the kids club, and both of my boys have a passion for soccer because of their experiences with this club! Please go if you haven't, but be warned....once you witness what the city/fans/team have created here, you will be hooked. UPDATE: I just realized this was supposed to be a review of the FC Cincy sports shop. I cannot personally vouch for the shop except to say I have done plenty of only orders of shirts, dog collars, decals and the like and they have always been great with communication and orders arrive within about 2 days! Cincy Shirts is also a great shop if you need FCC themed apparel.

Not a bad seat at Nippert.
    Mark S.

What can be said for the most exciting new fan event to hit Cincy since the Stingers. Wire to wire excitement and the Nippert Stadium is a great venue. I hope they see fit to keep it there. Just right for 30k+ crazy fans looking for a goal. Hoping MLS is in our future but definitely a good time at the game.

    Open Cup!

FCC. Only the best team in Cincinnati!! Yup, I said it. Come at me. The games are fun, exciting, and full of energy. Tickets are super reasonable and all great views of the non-stop actions. This is the team Cincy deserves!

Learn all about it with this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2W2b1WBmm4 Each Black N Bluegrass event is a double header, starting with an hour-long bout featuring their B-Team, The Shiners. Following intermission is an hour-long main bout with the A-Team, The Blackouts. The league battles other roller derby teams regionally and has garnered a large following since their origin in 2006. As a season pass holder, I've been an avid fan of Black-N-Bluegrass since the very beginning. It has been a pleasure to see this team evolve and improve. My favorite night was when they beat an opponent with a 300-point lead. Now that's action packed roller derby! My favorite seat is floor side in the Suicide Seating. Being right up against the out-of-bounds line puts you directly in the action, and may cause a Rollergirl to end up in your lap sometime during the evening. My favorite derby girls are Shaken-n-Stirred, Scary Garcia, Rosie The Riv-Hit-Her, Bertha Knuckles, TANK, and Skinnie Minnie (who is neither skinny or mini.) All of the ladies are fabulous with tactics unique to each player. After the game, fans are welcome to get autographs and pictures with the team, as well as high-fiving the Rollergirls on their introductory and victory laps. They may bring a brutal game, but Black-N-Bluegrass genuinely adore their fans. The day.... Tickets were purchased using an aftermarket ticket app. Bought about 3 hours before kick-off and got a great deal on the seats. Parking. I always find a parking lot in the city. Typically only a couple of blocks walk from the stadium, there is plenty of parking that you can walk to and avoid some of the traffic when you're leaving. I wasn't tailgating at all, so that wasn't an issue. But, walking to the stadium, I did notice some pretty elaborate tailgating parties that looked fun. Stadium. Being a loyal Chicago Bears fan, I sat on the Visitors side in section 339 Row 4 Seat 12. My rule of thumb for sporting events is typically the same, no matter the venue. I like to sit in a mid-level or top tier, close to the 50 yard line (or center of the field) and, if possible, a row closest to the front. What I've found is that this gets you the best panoramic view possible. Stadium seating lets you see over people's heads, so typically there's nothing in your way and you can see all the action. You're not going to catch a ball and you're not going to get an autograph or a jersey from a player on the field. But you'll be able to catch every point of the field and all the action. Amenities. Expensive. Yes. As you will find at every stadium. Long lines during halftime, but if you time things right, you can get in-and-out pretty quick if you're willing to miss a couple of minutes. Plenty of food and beverage choices to choose from. But, they are pricey. Would I go back? Absolutely. The few times that I've been to Paycor Stadium (as it's called today) I've always had a good time. On this particular day, the last 3 minutes of this game was some of the most exciting football of the season. Incredible finish to a game won by the Chicago Bears. Go Bears!

Autograph/photo schedules aren't posted before the event, but you can follow @Reds on Twitter for 30 min advance listings or just walk around and look at the signs by each line. Food options were as expected: limited and expensive. I pretty much just saw LaRosa's and Skyline on the main level and there was an Ovations kiosk in the (lame) VIP lounge for season ticket holders. There were a good number of activities for kids, particularly on the third level, but if you're bringing a child, keep in mind that they need to be old enough for independent play and young enough to be easily impressed. There are additional opportunities to spend money at various memorabilia shops and the official Reds gear store. And there's a main stage that has different player panels or other speakers, so just check the schedule in advance to know if there's anything specific you want to see. RedsFest is a 2-day affair and to really maximize the experience, you would probably want to go both days and just be prepared to be there all day to have the chance to see and get autographs/photos with the players you like. Those with significant others and/or kids who aren't as hard core, should probably leave them at home or drive separately.
