We first tried the deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds. Having been residents of Wisconsin and had the real thing - this definitely gives a good run for the money. We then had the seafood Alfredo and the teacher a man and chips. The Alfredo was very authentic with a delightful cream and wine sauce. The shrimp was done to perfection. The fish and chips were breaded perfectly with a very light batter. The portion of fish was generous. There is a certain malty flavor to the chips that was unique. We tried the Pontious Porter and the Irish you were here Stout. Both were very tasty! We had exceptionally good service. We would definitely come back. read more

This place is legit. Food was Good. Bar was on point. House made Beers, Ales and IPA's. Whisky selection better than average- even for us Bourbon guys. The Chef visited the table. We arrived late, 40 minutes before close and were treated well and given a tour of the Church. The whole ambiance screamed Old World 1300's. I would say this is elevated pub fare. Where do I start. Seating is not comfortable. Then the foot is less than average. When apps are best part of the meal that's not good. Then so expensive. Had a $12 credit card charge that was never disclosed. Had the bison ribs or I should say rib with very little meat. Other party member had $60 ribeye that had 8oz of fat. Went with 4 other people Friday December 12th and service was realky bad and slow. They seated us in the back right by the kitchen so we heard "CORNER" and the yelling of servers names the entire time. Food and drinks are way overpriced. My bison meatloaf $25 was small and burnt, potatoes were cold and carrots were undercooked (hard). My friends mint martini was in a tiny martini glass ($17) and her steak tips *supposed to be filet, was tough and chewy and pricey. Dirty dishes sat on the table well after we finished. We got up to walk around the restaurant and went into a room that was bizarre and had 3 stone steps to the doorway. Upon leaving the room, my friend opened the door and walked out into darkness as the light was a motion sensor light and she fell down the three stone steps bruising her knee and hurting her neck. We reported it to the bartender and manager and all they cared about was the spilled wine on the floor. They didn't even ask her if she was okay. Why in the world would anybody have a motion sensor light where there are three steps? Never going back again, don't waste your time or your money. Completely overpriced and overrated. read more

I have very mixed reviews. My family and I enjoy going there when we visit my grandma. It's fun environment and some of the food is good but not everything. We were recommended the kings garden. The pita was ok but it just came with a side of raw vegetables. The fettuccine was very under salted and lacked citrus or something. The salad was pretty good and the steak tips were good too. Fish and chips were solid. The oddest thing was when we asked for more bread and the kitchen refused to give it to us. We would have paid for it but they said no. It was certainly needed for the dish with lots of broth. I'd go again since there aren't a ton of options in the area but I'd keep my expectations low. read more

This is one of the most unique places I've ever been. Just a very, very cool atmosphere. We got there early so we could walk around and there's so much to see! Food was really good- we had steak tips , a ribeye and mussels appetizer. Fantastic! Definitely a must stop especially this time of year. I would add a couple more stars if I could. The whole place was interesting or fascinating. There is a beautiful courtyard where you can eat weather permitting. It is surrounded by stone walls and a variety of plants and flowers. The interior area is one of a kind, also stone and rustic with a lot of religious and gothic touches. Check out the private eating rooms too. The food was delicious, and beers fresh and plenty of choices on tap. There is a church on the upper/main level. The other side of the building is the original parsonage. It is filled with antiques. There are rooms you can rent as a hotel. I stayed in one and loved my time there. I plan on returning. read more

What a hidden gem! That's a cliche, but truly, this place is a diamond hidden in a small town. Not only is it absolutely awesome inside- seriously, no matter where you sit, get up and explore all the other rooms, including the outside grotto- this was probably one of the top 10 meals of my lifetime. And that's hard to do. Mind blowing esthetic AND delicious food? UNICORN. We walked it with a party of 14 and were seated immediately at a giant wooden table with giant leather chairs and a huge sword right in the center of the table. We started with the pretzel- which is something I demand you do, as well. It was delicious and shareable, though I wouldn't agree to ever share it with more than 1-2 others because it's so yummy and you should be selfish about it. I got the monte cristo with tots and it was a mountain of perfect food. Also good (because I stole it from their plates): chicken wings, burgers, ribeye, cheese plate, fried cheese curds. I'm from Bryan, moved to Chicago about 6 years ago and had to come back for a weekend. Every time I'm back in Ohio it's a struggle to find edible food nearby Lolll, Father John's was delicious and by far the best food in Bryan, OH. The truffle fries were better than I expected and the beet salad was presented so beautifully, and a perfect portion. Maple old fashion was tasty and nicely presented as well. The atmosphere is unique and cozy, good service, and great dishes - you won't find anything else like it. I saw in someone's earlier review they described the atmosphere as almost "satanic" but that's not it at all, this is a restaurant inside of a church, with statues of buddha and photos of mary, etc etc. it seemed to me all religions and spiritualities are welcome in the space which was very refreshing to see ! read more

Outstanding experience! From the appetizers (deviled eggs, roasted beets and cauliflower gratin) to the entree of seared walleye and the flight of house beers incredible and unique flavors. After several recommendations we stopped in late one night for some smalls bites and a few drinks. I'm not sure exactly what I expected when I heard it was in the basement of a church but I expected something not quite as dark & dingy & almost satanic feeling. I was not a huge fan of the atmosphere which was unfortunate because I feel like that's what the hype is all about. Maybe it's because I'm not religious so I just don't get it but i was certainly freaked out by the entire thing. The next issue I had was the temperature of my beer. It was awful. It was hardly chilled, basically warm. The charcuterie board was a joke. There was what I'd describe as hard flatbread, some slimey mozzarella, a few other cheeses that were flaked rather than sliced, onions, cherry tomatoes, blueberries, apple slices, coconut, some weird chocolate disks. I'm not sure what I was supposed to do with it. It was weird and I didn't have the palate for well, any of it to be honest. The staff was slow even though there was hardly a soul in there at 9pm on a Friday night. Could also hear them cursing very loudly in the kitchen. I was just really disappointed and I definitely don't get the hype. I didn't love the ambiance, the food, or the drinks. I probably won't be back. read more

We have been here many times in the past and have always had good food but that wasn't the case this time. Didn't have a lot of things on menu or they say were sold out. The burgers were raw when ordered well done. The cheese curds and fried pickles tasted like old oil and fishy. I understand times seem different but the quality of the food has declined. read more

Cool setting on the grounds and building of a prior church. Outside is very peaceful Hefeweizen was cold crisp and excellent Tater tots were cooked superb. Crisp but not burnt outside. I had the robed monk bison burger which was cooked as I requested. Wife had the prime rib sandwich. It was good as well although I thought the AU jus needed to be more robust. Cool place. We've been driving around Ohio enjoying the local breweries and headed up to the NorthWest to hit the spots on the Drink Beer Made Here tour. Well Father John's was much more than a local brewery experience. We thoroughly enjoys are beers and I was particularly disappointed to see on UnTapped that the Pontius Porter I was enjoying is no longer in production. The building and ambiance are the true experience here (not taking anything away from food, drink, or staff). Make sure to walk around and check everything out. From the courtyard, to the different dining & event , and bar in the basement. We were even fortunate enough to walk through the old family residence which appears to now be a B&B. Everything was beautifully restored. What a nice find. And the the staff were all so personable. read more

This is a unique place that is a must try! Especially if you like unique dinning experiences. First off..the owner John gave us a tour of the church while we were waiting for a table. We really enjoyed the private tour and seeing the sanctuary, gardens and the B&B. Lots of old time church artifacts to make the dinning experience fun. All the staff and owner were very friendly and welcoming. The food was pretty good too. For a starter I tried the spicy Bison chili. The chili had nice flavor without being too spicy. I couldn't really distinguish the bison taste due to the spice. However, the chili was excellent. For dinner I had the Shrimp and Mussel entre. The shrimp were large and tasty - not over cooked. There were lots of mussel to open. However, the mussels were okay. My wife loved her salad. it was large and more than she could eat in one seating. The pretzel appetizer looks like a must try. They are huge and look very tasty. We observed the burgers and fry entrée - lots of food! We also saw the waiter bring out a LARGE piece/wedge of pie. The pie looked delicious. Excellent visit for our group of six that included two children. First, location adds an amazing feeling to the whole experience. Personally feel that maybe a sign at the top of the stairs telling customers to proceed down stairs might be helpful but not an issue. Customer service was five star. First, our poor waitress was well overworked. If memory serves me correctly, she had 8 tables which caused a small lag in getting our drinks. We started out with the ten flight which we only had two as a group that we were not too fond of but the rest were amazing! However, food came out fast. Out of the six plates, only one was disliked. When the waitress came around, we discussed the dislike in dressing and they gave us a free desert (not expected/we only mentioned it in passing). Ive been going here for years. We love the tongue in cheek Catholic vibe and the light spirit of the place. The food is creative and excellent and the service very good. However, we were very uncomfortable with sinister Satanic images mixed in. I'm not sure what they are going for here, but we don't want disturbing images and objects around us while we are eating. We will be happy to go back if we hear the management has improved the atmosphere. read more

This is a amazing place. The thought and story behind this restaurant/ brewery is a stroke of genius. I have never ran across a place like this. The atmosphere was breathtaking. The food here is priced right and delicious. The staff was very friendly. The locals are so proud and should be. I mean this is a absolute gem. The in house beer is just as good as the food. I can't believe I never heard of this place before. It was a 45 minute drive for me and I would take that drive and will several times more. I brought a first date here and spent 6hrs with both great company and great atmosphere. It's very upbeat yet rich in heritage. I cannot say enough great things about this place. And I would love to thank the staff and the genius behind this place for such a amazing experience. 5 stars is not enough... I will definitely be coming back several more times. read more

Worst experience ever!! We drove over an hour to eat here, got there at 6:45pm, by 8:15pm no foodso we left. They had the nerve to expect us to pay the whole bill, nope we only paid for drinks. They should had warned people before getting seated they were short staffed. Strange how others got their food from other waiter. Prices were high with limited side choices. I was so disappointed. I'm giving them one star for the people that tried to make it right but we will never come back. The setting is a little different and personally for me as a little creeped out but we were trying something different. I will say that they had a strawberry brew that was delicious. It taste like red pop my friend that went with us she enjoyed her old fashion. And so I'm giving them a star for the cocktails but as everywhere you go, we heard the same old story. We are short a server and we're shorthanded in the kitchen. OK I can be patient but after waiting over an hour for our food I found a different server because I couldn't find our server and asked if they could check on our food because it had been over an hour and was told oh they're getting ready to played it up well we didn't get our food for another half hour And this server explained they were shorthanded and our order was put in after two big tables. OK well we all got chicken three chicken sandwiches and an order of chicken and waffles I just don't think you should have to wait an hour and a half for that that being said, after the first hour, we never did see our server again, the other server, and the person that was up front took care of us after the food came out wrong from the kitchen. They made sure it was right and then the person that was working upfront was the one that rang up our bill and they did comp us our appetizer and to 25% off of our bill. They tried to make it right, but I just don't think we'll go back. read more

Been there a few times, previous 4 star, changed to 2. Ambience still exceptional, and service was friendly and fairly good, however food was pretty awful. First issue, 2 of the 7 featured drinks were not available, and 2-3 items from the rather limited menu also not available. Two of us ordered fish of the day. It was so dry it was basically inedible. Salmon also dry, but better. One ordered bison burger, medium rare to medium, came out well done. Only 1 of the 6 of us had a meal they liked.  Really hope they improve, and love the spot, but will not be returning or recommending until we hear about some positive improvements. read more

This review is based on 3 things: Food Drinks Atmosphere Food: From my experience, I was a little hungry and came in alone for some small bites and a drink. I ordered the small charcuterie board. I'm the menu it says, "Assorted meats and cheeses." I was expecting an assortment of probably 2 meats and 3 cheeses. Out came a medium/large sized board with 2 meats (cured sausage and prosciutto). Problem was the prosciutto was THICK sliced and anyone that has eaten it knows that a thick slice is very chewy and hard to eat, so I barely touched it. 2 cheeses (havarti dill and some cheese the bartender couldn't even say, so I have no clue). The havarti dill is an acquired taste and the other cheese had a decently aged bottom of the foot taste. To go with these few options, there was one type of VERY HARD crustinis. Now normally you'd expect a few olives and something sweet and fruity, but instead you got 14 large olives, 2 slices of yellow tomatoes and slices of multi colored bell peppers. A lot, I know, but wait, there's much more! A lot of sweetened cranberries and about 30 small and flavorless grapes. Then there was a LARGE portion of chopped walnuts and a LARGE portion of sliced almonds to go with! Next, I was extremely confused was 4 large white chocolate wafers and flaked coconut covered in chocolate syrup... now I'm lost. Who would pick up chocolate syrup with their fingers?!? This is meant to be finger food. So for food, I wish it was a meat and cheese board, but instead I got a board of a lot of things that I didn't care for and a couple meats and cheeses, with one meat that was practically inedible due to its cut. For that I'll give Drinks: This is where they do well. Their house stout (Dark Knight of the Soul) and porter (Pontius Porter) are what I ordered and I was not disappointed one bit. Only complaint there is that I was sitting at the bar alone (there was literally no one else at the bar) for 5 minutes before the bartender showed up. For that, I'll give Atmosphere: I loved the fact that this is an old church and the dining/bar area is in the basement. The decor was done well. Pretty cool that it's said to be haunted as well. There isn't many people here at 5pm on a Friday. The music is 80s pop and too loud. Not the best selection to draw in everyone! BIGGEST complaint is that everywhere you look there are RATS!!! No they're not real, but the last thing I wasn't to be reminded of while eating is RATS!!! Simply because of the negative visual reminders all over the place, I have to give the atmosphere Overall, I'd give the place about 2.5 read more
